My husband and I visited last year for our "baby moon" and had a beautiful time! We bought a mug to remember our visit, but as we left SF, we were robbed and lost our belongings including the mug. After calling and speaking with Rosie, she gifted a new mug for my husbands 30th birthday. It was such a sweet surprise for him, and I can't thank Rosie and everyone at Big Basin enough!! THANK YOU! We just returned from five wonderful days staying in the tent cabins at Big Basin SP. While we have camped most every summer in Big Basin camping sites, this is the second time we have chosen to stay in the tent cabins. For this trip, it was mostly the weather that helped make this choice. Being a little cold, the tent cabin and the wood stove provided a little extra warmth. What a treat to heat the cabin before crawling into bed! The first time we chose the tent cabins it was to help save the amount of gear that we needed to bring with us. Both times in the Big Basin tent cabins were EXCELLENT experiences. The layout of the loop is lovely and most every site has some advantage - sunny, shade, privacy. The bathrooms are clean and the showers feel wonderful at the end of the day. Bring your quarters! There is nothing like being among the redwoods. Life slows and peace settles. It is truly a perfect get-away. I would love to give a little shout-out to the camp hosts. When we arrived on Thursday, the Big Basin store was closed for being off-season. We were able to purchase firewood from Jody when we arrived and she even went up to the store to get ice and bring it to us. It was such a nice gesture and talking with her was a pleasure. Thank you for helping us get set up and starting our five days on such a great note. Cannot wait to return! read more

Will and team (Bruce, Rachel, Crystal, and Melanie) are absolutely amazing! So incredibly accommodating, and our event went off without a hitch thanks to their professionalism and execution. Our company planned a day in the redwoods for 250 people at Big Basin State Park complete with trail activities (hosted by Adventure Associates, also awesome!) and a team lunch at the Gazos picnic area. We ordered over 250 sandwiches and salads from the General Store that were prepped and delivered on time, without error, by Will and team; immensely important when working with such a large group of people. We also rented coolers and trash cans from them, which they helped to load the drinks and ice, and delivered them down to our picnic area. I cannot say enough about Will, Bruce, and Rachel holding down the meal portion of our event (Rachel even drew out a menu for us, and Will and Bruce ran down some chips there were specifically requested by one of our employees), and when I saw Melanie and Crystal pull up to help me break down the event, I was elated. Thank you to the Big Basin Tent Cabins team for going above and beyond to deliver the superb customer service that sometimes goes by the wayside these days. I can't wait for our next event at Big Basin. read more

Getting ready for an adventure at Big Sur? Of course you have to make a stop by the Big Basin Grocery Store first. Didn't wear enough layers and freezing before your hiking even begins? No problem! The store tends to have clothes for sale. (This happened to me and 3 other friends. All 4 of us ended up with Big Basin matching jackets). This store has water, food, souvenirs, hiking gear and all of your camping necessities. After a long hike, I like to treat myself to a nice slurpee here. The slurpee machine is just like any other machine. I just like to treat myself after a long hike. Also, there are several nice tables outside to enjoy your slurpee. Whenever I come to Big Basin, I try to park in the back closer to the store because I know this is where I will be after my hike. Customer service here is top notch as well. The rangers are really nice and helpful in looking for the best souvenir for you. Prices are not that bad as compared to other hiking grocery stores. The hours here really vary. Make sure you check out the website the hours before planning to buy all of your food here prior to hiking. My friends and I decided to rely on the sandwiches here for our food for a long hike to Berry Falls. Sadly, the store was closed because it was under reconstruction and we decided to hike without food. Long story short, one of my friends fainted. So yeah, checking the opening/closing times on their website is very important. Bottom line, It's not a Big Basin hike without a trip to the Big Basin store. read more

City girl goes a-camping! For the first time! Alone! What's the problem? Well, I did a few things right, and at the top of that list is choosing Big Basin Tent Cabins for my adventure and running into staff member Melanie when tragedy struck. Long story short, I blindly booked a cabin for three nights, only to get there and discover I had chosen what appeared to be the only cabin in the whole place that involved a hill and some slightly rugged terrain to access. Under ordinary circumstances this would not be an issue and, in fact, I bet this spot is prized by many for how far back from the road it's set, affording additional privacy. Unfortunately for me, I still have some distance to go in my recovery from foot reconstruction surgery and traversing in and out of that cabin for three days and nights was out of the question. After accepting that my camping trip was probably over before it began, I headed back to the Tent Cabin desk inside the (awesome) gift store and explained to Melanie and another staff member that I was going to have to leave. The other staff member seemed quite willing to let me go, which is fair enough--this was entirely my doing, after all--but Melanie immediately began troubleshooting to figure out a way I could stay and live out my camping dream. Not only did she find another, much more accessible cabin I could use for a couple nights, she drove up and got my stuff* from the first cabin and set it all up in the alternate cabin, acting the whole time like I was doing her a favor creating all this extra, unexpected work! She was just so friendly and accommodating. (I manage a 150-person office and pride myself on the customer service I model and expect from my staff, but Melanie gave me some serious competition!) Camping of any kind is, in the end, probably not for me, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything and Big Basin Tent Cabins and Melanie made that experience possible. (*They offer a couple different packages that include bedding, towels, a lantern, etc. Highly recommended!) Shout out also to Camp Host George, who was very kind and helpful. A beautiful place with really nice tent cabins and awesome staff. Go spend a few nights for me! read more

The park is absolutely beautiful. The tent cabin facilities were good and the bathrooms were clean. I am giving the place a negative review because of an upsetting experience. During very early morning, a person walked up to our tent cabin and lifted the outside shade and stared into our tent cabin. I was awake since I found the mattress uncomfortable. They were only scared off by my screaming and other surrounding campsites stirring. The tent cabins do not have interior curtains, just exterior shades that can easily be lifted by anyone outside. read more

Just returned from a Christmas week camping trip at Big Basin. We often camp off season along the California coast in December so we know what to expect. This was our first time at Big Basin and it is a beautiful state park. The campsites are large and well maintained. The negative review is because of the lack of a camp host during our stay. Obviously it is very cold at night so firewood is very important. These tent cabins have wood burning stoves that are useless without firewood. We checked in at 4:00 and drove over to the campground. We noticed that "Tammy" the camp host was not in so we setup camp and planned to check back later to get firewood, When we checked later still no Tammy so I drove back to the store at the visitor's center but it was already closed. I ended up having to make a 40 minute round trip back down to Boulder Creek to pickup wood. The second night we there was a very loud group carrying on until quite late. Again without a camp host there was no one to do anything about it. My advice to others would be to buy your wood on the way in but at $100 a night I expected better. read more

The whole tent cabin experience was amazing!!! We had an amazing time, we knew it would rain so we we're fully prepared. The little store was great just wish they had bread or buns to go with the hot dogs they sold lol. One bundle of firewood lasted us 3-4 hours in the indoor stove but the fire pit outside will take more because it's exposed to wind and burns quicker. Bring an EZ Up! Totally worth it as everything seems to always be dripping or wet in the redwoods lol. The trip was perfect! The staff was amazing! We we're helped by Will with our reservations originally but Marlie, and Jodi were who I dealt with at the park, as well as another nice young lady but I didn't get a chance to get her name. The staff was wonderful all the way around and thank you to the nice guy who drives around in the vehicle and sets up the cabins. He was great too!! PS buy the Big Basin Blackberry syrup! Soooo good! read more
