Maria's Customer Service, french fabric selections, vintage antiques and lighting is outstanding…read more Time and time again Deborah and Rita, the daughters of Maria, generously spend much of their unending time advising on just the right selection and and placement of items. The sisters work well together whether it's with home photos or drawings prepared by Rita on the spot. They have a vision that works within the paramaters of your likes, preferences, and comfort zones. Over the past several years, with their mentoring and guidance, I have learned how to coordinate Maria's french fabrics ~ table cloths, french chair pads, chandeliers into our existing decor. Deborah and Rita are very creative and have a very good spatial sense. An example of Deborah's design skill that is viewable in the shop or on-line, is when she folds a rectangular table cloth into thirds and turns it into a runner. Deborah then places a 2nd runner on top creating an illusion of great depth and interest with complimenting fabrics. The china collections of gien, staffordshire, spode, etc. pair up quite nicely with the french fabrics as well as the vintage silverplate trays, ice buckets, silverware, and crystal presentations located throughout the store. Drop in for a custom-made cup of coffee and enjoy the view and graciousness of Deborah and Rita.

It is so educational to take them there and they learn something new every time! Debra is so inviting and friendly. When we first went there almost 4 years ago, my son was just 3 and I was terrified when I saw all of the expensive items. I started to have a panic attack and was shocked when she comforted me and said, "Its okay, let them touch." with a calm voice and a smile on her face. I hesitantly relaxed a little. My kids have never broken anything after over 40 visits. :) They also always have a kid friendly area set up that my kids choose to spend their own money on and Debra always gives them a kid friendly discount which fills my heart each time. Sometimes they have a bracelet making section for kids. My kids now have a deep love for rocks and gems. They give them out with their Valentines that includes a card about the rock and it is a huge hit! Their classmates get so excited and walk around and ask each other which rock they got. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful establishment so close to home and one that feels like home every time we visit. I did end up getting a reasonably priced house plant (~$26, sticker says it's from a farm in Half Moon Bay) and a beautiful pinkish 5-stem rose bouquet (~$12) because they looked nice and healthy and I knew they'd make me happy, but the vibe itself here isn't the best compared to other nurseries. This also isn't really a full walk-in florist space. There are some pretty bouquet options to choose from, but it's not as extensive as expected particularly given the other reviews that make it sound like a dedicated florist service. I did see a lot of colorful potted orchids lined up across the front window. Also, overall the items in the gift shop are extremely pricey and up marked -- doesn't seem like much shopping gets done in this space -- and it's less so a quaint country shop vibe and more so try-hard pretentious.
