We visited on a weekend that was featyring an evening light exhibit at the museum that had inside and outaide activities thatbwete great for visitors of all ages and esepecially engaging for children. All the staff we encountered were so friendly , welcoming, and I'd like to mention, of a diverse array of cultural backgrounds. We participated in a paid lantern making class but also made shadow puppets and coloured gel making activities , got a lesson and take away from a master calligrapher, all for free as well. We only viewed the main exhibit mall on the first floor this visit, because there was just too much to do and see. Ended our visit at Diwan, a MacEwen reataurant inside the Museum, but they also had a cafe and a pop up Diwan for those looking for something more.casual. Thanks to Allison Y. for bringing attention to this awesome little corner where dinosaurs still roam the Earth. T-rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and a Diplodocus or is it a Brontosaurus? I have a fascination with them all. You can see a few of the heads moving in the wind with an accompanying creaking sound making the experience a little more interesting. These masterfully crafted creatures are made of steel that were laser cut by the geniuses at AC Waterjet. Their motto is "You name it, we'll cut it"; but not only can they cut things, they do it with flair. There is one dino and two gigantic dragonflies at the front of the AC Waterjet building next to the parkette. Even if they're closed for the day, you can still visit and check out the sculptures. They're near the corner of Lawrence and Crockford across from Diana's. Great stop if you're in the area. Just be careful not to get cut on the sharp edges!

Dinosaurs run wild in Scarborough! Just kidding. These are dinosaurs sculptures made of steel. I…read moredidn't count, but there are many of them. There are different breeds, different sizes and different motions. Some appear peaceful, while some appear they are hunting. The sculptures are all rusted and in brown colour. There is a sign saying beware of sharp edges, and don't try to climb on them. I was just about to climb on one to take a picture. :-) Given this spectacular piece of public art is located next to the mall of the uber popular Diana's, it is a mystery why no one has reviewed it before. Maybe because the strip of land parcel is tiny. The side street has nothing to speak of. The art pieces themselves are spectacular however, and made to last. Do drop by next time you are at Diana's and take a look.

After I imbibed at Old Flame Brewing Co., I explored The Distillery Historic District where it was located for a leisurely first evening in Toronto. Over 20 years ago, a small group of visionary developers looked at a derelict collection of Victorian Industrial buildings that had been pronounced a national historic site and imagined transforming it. They wanted to create a place that would excite and inspire the senses. Where people could experience new ideas, new foods, new designs and new ways of living and working. The vision was to combine the romance and relaxing atmosphere of European walking and patio districts with the hip, cool dynamic of an area like New York City's SoHo or Chelsea, where creative minds got together and you felt as if anything could happen. Their dream was to provide a place where artists, artisans, entrepreneurs and businesspeople could rub shoulders and inspire each other. So, they began plans to restore the 47 buildings known as the Gooderham & Worts Distillery. They went to great lengths in the restoration process to repurpose original materials and brilliantly blend them with today's modern materials and green technologies. One could only marvel at the authentic exterior restoration that was achieved. But it was when you stepped inside the buildings that you truly realized the magnitude of what was accomplished. What you found was a dramatic fusion of old and new. An inspired blend of Victorian Industrial architecture and stunning 21st century design and creativity. The result was an internationally acclaimed village of one-of-a-kind stores, shops, galleries, studios, restaurants, cafes, theatres and more. The Distillery Historic District opened in 2003 and today is widely regarded as Canada's premier arts, culture and entertainment destination. A place brimming with creativity and creative people, that could inspire dreams, and a place that could help them come true. Was history on my side to revisit this district that actually had a distillery shop onsite that I missed!? PURCHASE(S) (N/A): I spent some money at Old Flame Brewing Co. (read my review of that) but nowhere else, and certainly nothing directly with the facility itself. Of course, you had ample opportunity to spend your money with other businesses or onsite parking, or simply nothing at all as you just hung out. You walk in and there's beautiful paintings hanging everywhere or leaning in a pile against the wall. You're free to sort through them yourself. It's inside the G.H. Johnson's, all the way in the south-east corner. I found myself browsing art instead of furniture on my first visit. Even though I stepped into the building with the intention to buy furniture, it was Canvas that won me as a customer, not .G.H. This is where I fell in love with Steven Nederveen's works. At the time I was a poor student but they let me take the painting I loved home to try it out. It worked beautifully with my decor and style but in the end practicality prevailed and I returned the painting without purchasing it. Almost two years passed and I stopped in again to look at furniture but found myself back looking at the Steven Nederveen's. Low and behold, they still have the painting I loved and it was meant to be. I bought it as Christmas present to myself and an investment in art. The staff were great, marvelling at how this piece from his first set of works was passed over for so long and that it finally found it's home with me. I can't give a better recommendation to any gallery in the city.

One of the greatest parks for walking around in the morning or evening in Toronto, this is located right off of the Don Valley Parkway, and is truly a great part of town and absolutely gorgeous. The only negatives is that a lot of people don't make way for others and understanding the direction of where the opposite directions are supposed to stay on which side. Perhaps a line should be drawn onto the path? Note: don't hog the path and walk in the middle. Stay on the right side on whatever direction you're coming from. If you are a pair walking, go single file if there is other people coming. Don't keep walking side by side, it's hard to physically distance if you aren't doing your part too. Another note: if you're going to take a break, please stand off the path and on the grass.
