My wife and I went out on a morning adventure looking for trout, mackerel, and some snapper to filet. Well, we found the fish and smashed them! Easily caught our limit in snapper and mackerel. I'd be willing to bet we caught close to 100 fish in total. Marty cut the fish up at the dock for us and even gave us a couple recommendations on some local watering holes to celebrate the morning catch. Shelling Alert - there are lots of reasons to visit this State Park the sand and water here is…read moreabsolutely gorgeous and this beach presents a great shelling opportunity if you're into that, although the amenities here are somewhat limited due to the last hurricane that came through but this park is still worth the price of admission and they have made lots of progress restoring things. We drove here from Myakka River State Park where we are camping for a few weeks being we had never visited the two lighthouses here and rumor has it that the water is warm and clear and the long stretches of beaches are covered in beautiful seashells everything we were hoping for was true. We spent an amazing few hours here walking the beach and exploring the many walking trails that wind throughout the park. We always pack a cooler when planning these excursions and the sun and temperatures today proved that it would be needed. We love the Florida State Park system and hold an annual pass to support the park but also to save a few dollars and for the convenience since we try and visit as many park as we can while traveling across the state. This is a park that we definitely plan on returning to when in the area, it is a little off the beaten path which is part of the attraction, the crowds were very manageable and we found parking at the lots along the causeway without issue and found lots of large beautiful unbroken shells oh yeah we'll be back...

She caught the most fish 7 and caught a fish on her first cast. Within 15 minutes we all had caught a fish. One of our friends who has a boat but is not that familiar with the area got allot of great information from him that will help in the future. Justin gave him some pointers on how to get around the area. We only had two fish we could keep but he filleted them while waiting to dock. Chris was professional and was focused on putting us on fish for the entire 16 hours (2 Trips) we…read morefished with him. Withing 15 seconds of the first cast on the first day I had a massive tarpon on the line. He estimated 160 pounds plus. The tarpon put up a 45 minute fight. The second cast out resulted in my friend catching a 120 pounder. That was all before 8 am. We got 2 more nice tarpon to the boat, fought a couple more that threw the hook and missed a few bites. We also caught a Cobia that Chris filleted up nicely. The Cobia fought over 15 minutes. These tarpon are like nothing I have ever fought. Chris kept us in the middle of fish and worked his butt off to make sure we had bait in the water at all times. His gear and boat are in great shape. We will be back and we have no interest in a guide other than Chris.

He said he was on the water, hit a submerged object and wrecked his boat. Said how about tomorrow??? No thanks!
