Hiring Chrissy was the best decision we made in our wedding! I'm not a big planner and my now husband and I both have jobs that can be demanding, so we knew we would benefit a lot from hiring a wedding planner. We interviewed a couple of wedding planners and Chrissy stood out as someone who seemed very experienced - this was particularly important as, while we had a high level vision of our wedding, we had no clue about all the other details that comes with planning a wedding. We hired Big City Bride to be the weekend coordinator for our wedding and we couldn't have had a better experience. I met with Kim G about three weeks before the wedding and I handed over all of my vendor contracts and we spent about an hour talking about the specifics of the wedding. Kim was able to let me know exactly what else I needed to take care of and by the next morning I had an email in my inbox with a checklist of all of my "to-dos". I was most stressed out about the timing of everything having to do with all of my vendors and Kim handled everything for me. I had always planned on a large wedding and hiring a wedding planner. We were engaged in May 2012 and I set up a few meetings with various planners around the city and suburbs. BCB was my second appointment and I canceled all of the rest after meeting Susan. I can't stress enough that BCB was the absolute best investment we made by far. Where to begin.... We decided on the Chicago Cultural Center and with our size wedding (488 invited - although our final head count was 330), the only date they had available for the next year and a half was December 29th, 2012. This is because we were using Yates for the reception space. Once the date was set and we realized it would be a very short engagement, Susan brought on Chrissy to help with the plans. These 2 women quickly became some of the most amazing, fascinating and helpful people I have ever met. They do not miss a SINGLE detail and I have never witnessed organization on that level. They have connections to just about everything you can think of in the city of Chicago and can get answers for you very quickly. They planned my wedding weekend (a challenge all in itself!), my wedding shower and my bachelorette party. I can honestly say that nothing went wrong at any of the events. Our meetings with them were organized, timely and yet still a blast. Every staff member is friendly and courteous and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Claire is an absolute sweetheart and the warmest person to see each time when we arrived. Perfection. There is no other word to describe the experience of working with Big City Bride and Claire Weller. From the first meeting to the AMAZING EVENT I was impressed with how buttoned down Claire was. She listened as our daughter and future son in law started with a vision of what they were looking for - and a very specific vision (they were married in a record store and the parents - us and the grooms mom) performed the ceremony. I am in the film production business, I am the one that makes the world perfect for clients and it was hard to let go and trust that this is what Big City and Claire did with all of their hearts and soul for a living as well. I am sure after reading other reviews here that this is a company that is run by people who could not possibly do it any other way. Claire was open and easy, and helpful and there were no egos involved. A smile at every moment, nothing threw her off balance and in the situation our daughter decided to be married, Claire had never done it before, and it came off flawlessly. Every meeting we had, she had stored every note and every piece of input our daughter and future son in law had (they were very hands on since they are in the entertainment industry as well) given her. We sat at that table in their office as she would pull up references and type rapidly on her laptop and REALLY LISTEN. Our daughter and her future husband also had vendors they wanted to use or who they wanted to be a part of the process since they were in such a specific industry - and Claire seamlessly wove those vendors into ones that she brought to the table for us to review and work with as well. We took the whole package - at the end of the day, none of us could imagine not taking it from start to finish, it seemed to us like asking someone to write a part of the book and not finish the ending. We challenged her at every turn with things that changed or had to be added (we tented the outside of a venue and were not sure of the weather and decided a day before the tent went up to enclose it further and add more fabric and draping.) Nothing fazed her. It was all met with a smile and a sentence I will store in my brain forever, "Rosemary, don't worry, enjoy everything, it's my job to get that done." And, get it done she did. My last memory of the night was Claire out on the street running in her bare feet to get ahead of the crowd of people to get in a cab and bring it to us. Overall, she was on top of everything, and always 5 steps ahead. My husband and I were searching for a wedding planner so we contacted Big City Bride on the knot.com. We received a call from Claire on the same day. We scheduled a consultation with her to discuss our vision and expectations. We hired Claire as our wedding planner for our September wedding. One of the first things she did was to help us find a venue. She collected all of the information from each venue, what their available dates were, and then went with us to check them out. Claire also assists the bride and groom with establishing vendors for their big day (photographer, videographer, music, etc.). If you haven't established your vendors, she has an amazing list of extremely talented and professional individuals. Claire communicates with all vendors throughout the whole process and does most of the back and forth communication that can take up a lot of time. This is especially helpful for people who are busy or work full-time like my husband and I were. Claire addressed all questions and concerns in a timely manner. Even when she was on vacation or had to leave town, she would either remain available via text or email OR she made one of the other Big City Bride staff available to us. We were never left hanging or left with unanswered questions or concerns. Claire is very sweet, energetic, determined, and gets along with everyone! I looked for a wedding planner even before I got engaged. Yes. Crazy. But I am a planner..and you will wonder why did I want Big City Brides if I am a "planner"? I make plans for the Navy, and live over 800 miles away from my now husband. I started the wedding process with no direction and a whole lot of anxiety. But then I met CHRISSY! She knows everything about the wedding world and took my only direction of "I want it to be fun" and made it happen! I'll be the first to admit that I was a bride with a whole lot of baggage: I lived in Philadelphia where I am a med student with NO free time and little opportunity to be back in Chicago; my mom lives in NY, so I did most of the planning solo; I am a vegan (and so were some of my guests, inc my FIL) while my husband is a meat-atarian; I was on a tight budget, etc. But Chrissy worked her magic and made all of this issues easy to work through. Being out of state was the hardest, but Chrissy was super accommodating and created mega-planning visits for the few scattered days I was able to be back in Chicago. She was also very patient with me when I would be late in getting back to her with deadlines because school etc always had to come first. Also, all of our vendors were flexible and willing to work with us- which I credit to Chrissy because of the relationships she had with them. Oh my gosh. I really don't know where to start!!! Chrissy planned our January wedding at the Cultural Center and there is really no way to put into words how amazing the wedding was and how smooth the planning process went. Seriously you guys, my husband and I felt like guests the entire night! Ok, I'll back up... I specifically requested Chrissy because she did my best friend's wedding, which was perfect. From the minute I stepped into Big City Bride, I literally felt like a celebrity!! A welcome sign with our name on it? Champagne and treats at our meetings? YES!!! We met once a month, but Big City Bride and Chrissy made us feel so great and important that I wanted to meet every week!!! Chrissy listened to the vision we had for our wedding and gave us amazing ideas for how to pull them off in our budget. Everything that was important to us was important to her! At the reception, she kept things moving so that we could get to the most fun part- dancing!! She even made sure the little details were taken care of...that my dad had the special olives that he loves so much, that a particular guest had a certain drink that he only drinks- EVERYTHING! Big City Bride is a well-oiled machine and the best wedding decision my husband and I made (well, except getting married!) without a doubt. We will forever be grateful for her services and she made our wedding the most magical, perfect, stress-free day of our entire lives. If you're reading this you are probably thinking of whether or not to hire BCB or do it yourself. You're thinking wedding planners cost money & that you could use that extra cash on flowers, church programs, transportation, a bigger cake.. but that's not the rationale you should be using. That's not how wedding planning works! For example, you go to go to a florist and explain to them your vision, they charge you $10k. Because why not? They'll never see you again after your big day. But if Susan goes with you to that florist - they will treat you guys like royalty and charge her $7k. Susan is a repeat customer of theirs, her company plans weddings all the time, they want to work with her and they want her to come back. And that is just one example. I can think of so many more places where you save money by working with BCB: Your venue is going to charge you for "chair removal" or your caterer is going to charge you for "cake cutting" or the hotel is going to charge you for "welcome-box delivery". Because again, why not? You're a one-time customer. All of those small charges that add up very quickly, won't happen when you're with Susan. If you tell Susan your all in budget, she will work within her services to fit in that budget and your planning process will be infinitely less stressful, happier, more organized and the day itself will be flawless. I had the best experience with Big City Bride - from beginning to ending with a spectacular, magical wedding. I spent a lot of time after getting engaged looking at Yelp and trying to sort through 1) whether I even needed a wedding planner and 2) who to pick. Well, I can't imagine having pulled everything together by myself in 100 million years and I can't imagine having worked with a better wedding coordinator - Chrissy. From my very first contact with BCB, I was impressed. I initially called several planners - one was not responsive AT ALL, and another took weeks to get back to me. BCB was responsive and curteous and immediately put me at ease. My particular struggle was that I was traveling full-time, and neither my fiance' or I have family in the area. Since we were paying and planning for it, I certainly felt a lot of pressure. In stepped Chrissy. I went from stressed out mess, to feeling like there was control over what was happening. Even more than that, I really felt like Chrissy understood what I was looking for, and provided great suggestions and recommendations. When I ended up having a make-up and hair trial disaster with my "usual place," Chrissy was at the ready with incredible recommendations. Our band, Chrissy's recommendation, was so spectacular I don't even know how to express it in words. Music is really important to my family (all musicians, and snobbish about it), and our band blue everyone away - INCLUDING the Julliard grads who danced all night. We got married at Cafe' Brauer with our reception afterwards, and the idea of NOT having had Chrissy there just seems like pure insanity. Everything was flawless. I'm still hearing from my family (and mother-in-law) that our wedding was the best one they had ever been to. I could go on and on. . .Basically, I had a day even better than I could have imagined, I had so much fun that it seems impossible that it was actually my life. Yes, so much of that was getting married to the man I love surrounded by those that I love. The point is, I was able to enjoy it all, because Chrissy and Big City Bride executed flawlessly.
