We had a fantastic wedding planner, Katie, who has done more than day-of planning for us. She is exactly the type person you want to be your wedding planner: detailed-oriented, RESOURCEFUL, responsive, nice and polite but makes sure things are done the way they should be done (esp. when the bride can be a little particular at times), all around wonderful to work with. The record high flooding in Chicago happened on our wedding day. Yes, our venue flooded. I planned my Chicago wedding from San Francisco with the help of Katie Kozlowski of Dettagli Weddings and I can honestly say that she is a complete rock star. We booked the "Cruise Director" package because we had already secured some of our major vendors (venue, dress, cake, photographer, invites), but we needed help with additional vendors, timing, budgeting and the rest of the details we didn't even know we had to think about. That's where Katie came in and provided excellent recommendations for vendors that would fit our style and budget. We found some amazing people through her, like our florist Hello Darling and our videographers, I Do Films. She even helped my fiance's parents with the rehearsal dinner. She worked closely with our floral/decor vendor to make sure that she understood the look we were going for and it turned out beautifully. Katie is extremely on top of things, highly responsive and knows every detail about your wedding inside and out. She is extremely energetic, friendly, detail oriented and has an extremely high level of professional standards. She will make sure your wedding is absolutely stunning, no matter what. Unfortunately, when we initially got in touch with Katie, she had already committed to a wedding in Napa that same weekend, but we met with her anyway and she brought along Susan Hood Evans, who would be our day-of-wedding coordinator. We definitely felt confident that this duo would do a fantastic job from our initial meeting. Katie guided us along the way and at our final walk-through passed the baton over to Susan just a few days before the wedding. If Katie hadn't told me that she had another wedding that same weekend, I never would have known. She was extremely helpful and attentive up until the last minute, easily handling the last minute issues that tend to arise with any wedding. As for Susan, she did an amazing job with our wedding. She received a ton of compliments from my bridal party -- they were all quite impressed with her. Her assistant, Lizzie, who was also extremely sweet and helpful. They must have been very thoroughly briefed by Katie because they knew every detail of the wedding inside and out. And, inevitably at every wedding, things go wrong. Our venue's caterer mistakenly prepared the wrong entree and Susan noticed it was not what was listed on our menu. She was able to get them to change it before anyone noticed and people kept telling me how great the food was. Throughout the day, these girls were extremely professional, calm and attentive and I really felt taken care of on my wedding day. Thanks to them, I didn't have to worry about anything. One of my favorite memories was from right before my new husband and I were introduced. I needed to have my bustled tied before we entered the room. Susan & Lizzie were having trouble finding the corresponding ties and out of nowhere, Katie shows up like my fairy god-planner, fresh from the airport to save the day with her magic bustling skills. I was so happy that she was able to make it to our wedding and it meant a lot to us that she came to see it even though she didn't have to. If I could give Katie 6 or 7 stars out of 5, I would. Katie was some of the best money we spent on the entire wedding, hands down. She is an absolute doll, super sweet and most of all, incredibly organized. Katie had all of our little details memorized the week before the wedding - she knew who got the well done filet and which table he was at, the order in which the bridal party would be announced at the reception, and on and on. Everyone at the rehersal and the wedding could not stop telling me how lovely and helpful Katie was. Here are a couple detailed examples of just how helpful Katie was the days leading up to the wedding and the day of the wedding: When our caterer let our contact go 4 days before my wedding, Katie stepped in took care of everything. The week before my wedding, I had a million little things to do, I can't imagine how I would have gotten anything done if I had had the added stress of confirming details with our caterer that week. She set up conference calls with multiple people at the catering company and confirmed and re-confirmed all of the little details that were born in the 10 months leading up to that weekend. She didn't even mention these conversations to me, it came up when the new catering contact called me to confirm something else. This is so indicative of how Katie works - her main priority is the bride and the groom. She wanted to make sure that everything ran 100% smoothly and that we were calm and cool, she didn't even mention all the trouble she was going to for us behind the scenes. There was another incident that could have morphed into a major snafu had it not been for Katie. After the ceremony, we boarded the trolley for some pictures downtown. My husband and I were taking a couple pictures right outside the board of trade when I jumped on him for a cute pose. Right when I did this, my dress split right along the side - the zipper gave way and my left side was completely exposed. This wasn't just a little split a couple inches long, this was a major hole, from my armpit to below my waist on my right side, it was something that pins or safety pins could not have helped. We ducked into a nearby hotel for warmth and called Katie for advice on what to do. Katie was at the our reception site helping direct set-up, but quickly got on the phone with Vera Wang and my seamstress. She had a dress lined up for me at the store to wear in case my dress was unfixable, but luckily, my seamstress was still open and we were able rush over in a cab to The Dress Doctor while my seamstress sewed me back in with thick white thread. Katie even cabbed it over to The Dress Doctor to make sure I was doing okay and hung out for 15 minutes to make sure I was alright. Luckily, everything worked out in the end and my dress held up well for the rest of the night. You can plan for things to go wrong and have back-up plans in place, but some things may happen that you would never have anticipated (i.e., my dress 'incident' mentioned above). It's wonderful to have someone there for you with your best interests at heart. Katie fielded all of my questions the 10 months leading up to the wedding; confirmed details with all of my vendors the week of the wedding; handled all of the little things - timelines, setting out escort cards, etc., but she also helped me keep a level head when things didn't go as planned and could have blown up. This is something that you just can't put a price on. She went above and beyond, way beyond, the expectations that I had for her. I was planning my wedding from a distance and didn't have time to extensively research planners. So I asked the chef and on-site coordinator of my venue (Ravenswood Event Center) with whom they worked best with, and they named Katie of Dettagli--so I booked her right away. Thank God I did! I had many MANY questions leading up to the wedding especially because I was DIYing most of it! She always answered my emails with what seemd like a smile and a bounce---never once did I feel like a burden. You cannot afford to not hire Bliss to plan your wedding! Aside from booking the church, the first thing we did when we got engaged was to call Renny and Bliss Weddings and Events. From there, she took over. She has so many amazing connections in the city of Chicago that you have no need to worry about time constraints or booking vendors and locales 2 years out. She makes it look she has all of the top vendors in Chicago on speed dial and she probably does! She makes it all look so effortless, while I am certain that it's not. More than that, however, she will save you your sanity. My husband had just started medical school. I was in my first year of teaching. We both had just moved to Chicago, and we lived about 45 minutes apart. It was nightmarish year by all accounts, but I have quite fond and wonderful memories of it, mostly thanks to Renny and her calming nature. She helped us work through and identify our real wants and desires for our dreamy day, even though we both did not really have a clue. She listened to us, made suggestions, and then reassured us the whole way. And what a problem solver she is--running out the night before the wedding to purchase hand held fans for guests to hold in our non-air-condition church, during a 90 degree summer day or rebooking new transportation within 10 minutes because the air-conditioning on our trolley had sputtered to a stop. These weren't really problems. They were just things that Renny fixed before I every noticed they existed. As luck would have it, I found myself planning a wedding during the busiest work year of my career. I was working 60 hours a week and literally had no time at all to plan my wedding. The best decision I ever made was to hire Katie and Dettagli! The minute I hired Katie, the stress just melted away. She really knows how to plan and organize for a wedding and always made sure I wasn't forgetting a single detail. Because I was traveling a lot for work, I would have Katie meet with some of the vendors. We would talk over the phone about what I was looking for and how I would like to negotiate my contracts. For my wife and I, there was probably no bigger decision than the wedding planner. We were trying to coordinate a Chicago wedding from Florida, and we needed someone we could trust to help us coordinate long-distance. After interviewing a few potential planners, we felt most comfortable with Bliss -- and they proved to be everything we hoped! One added perk of choosing Bliss was that vendors were excited to work with us because they had worked with Bliss before and knew everything would be well-organized and handled professionally. We had a bit of a snag early on when our initial planner left Bliss, but Renny was quick to reach out to us and immediately help ease our nerves both by helping us transition to our new planner, Lauren, and by meeting with us both over the phone and in-person on our next trip to Chicago to walk us through everything. They made a stressful situation much easier to handle, and within days we had several conversations with Lauren to get on the same page and move forward with the process. We really lucked out getting Lauren! She was great throughout the entire planning process. There are so many vendors in Chicago, and Lauren's expertise and experience was invaluable. She took care of narrowing down vendors for us to choose from, and had several recommendations to help us sort through the options. She was available to meet via phone whenever we needed her, and she made sure no detail went overlooked. In addition to helping us through the lead-up, every event over the course of the entire wedding weekend was perfectly executed. We loved everything about our ceremony and reception, and Lauren was right there to make sure everything went smoothly and we didn't have any concerns. She went above and beyond to make the weekend special for us and our guests. For example, temperatures dropped on our wedding day and Lauren was right on top of it, sending out some Bliss colleagues to purchase shawls (in a variety of colors so that they did not clash with our guests' outfits). I cannot say enough great things about Katie and Dettagli Events. I spoke to two other event planning companies before meeting her and, as they say, the third company was definitely the charm. Katie's interpersonal skills are spectacular. She makes you feel like you're the most unique, coolest bride in the history of brides. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her professionalism is top notch. She ran our wedding on a dime and did a great job serving as the project manager with little-to-no instruction from me. She picked up my carload of wedding stuff on Thursday morning and it was all magically in its place when we arrived at the venue on Friday evening. Aside from being an integral part of the actual day of my wedding she was in constant communication with me for the several months proceeding the big day. She recommended and contacted all of my vendors, helped make my programs, compiled a production schedule, picked up my cake and was always accessible to answer my many wedding-related questions. If we could give Katie and the whole Dettagli team 10 out of 5 starts, we would. If you're recently engaged, congratulations! Now go call Katie before she's booked. Without question, the money we spent on Katie's services was the best, best, best decision we made through the whole process, bar none. We went with the "Franc"/full service/soup-to-nuts package and it was a dream. For the year of planning, Katie was an utter joy to work with, responsive, responsible, fun, and immediately "got" my vision for our big day and made it a reality. Seamlessly, perfectly. She knows everyone, every vendor, everything, and never says, "can't," "won't", or "no." If you have a dream that's out of budget, she'll come at you with 10 alternatives to make you happy. She NEVER pushes. Never upsells. Never pushes a certain vendor, etc. At the same time, the vendors she recommended were all simply amazing and we loved each and every one of them (Fleur for flowers - omg, amazing. Sarah's cake (Oak Street), Pen/Carlson photography, Entourage - the best bad in the history of wedding bands - truly, the night was perfect). Everyone warns, "well, just expect that something will go wrong, because it always does and you just can't sweat the small stuff." NO. Nothing. Everything was perfect. Or, correction - as far as you and your groom will know, everything will have been perfect. Katie is a MASTER of emergency fixes behind the scenes. We had a groomsman's tie not fit. No problem! Bloomies is next door! Katie to the rescue - groomsman tied up in no time. The cocktail hour musician's keyboard didn't work on the scene - no problem! Katie had another one within the 15 minutes she had before the ceremony was over (and I was none the wiser until the next day when we were catching up). Katie has had caterers get whole wedding cakes squished in elevator doors (not kidding), and still managed to have perfectly re-done cake in time for the bride and groom without skipping a beat. She is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. For our wedding and the full-service package, Dettagli was about 10% of our budget. Sound insane? Not a bit. We're both busy professionals, bought a house this year, moved, went back to grad school part-time - I could never, ever, ever have done it all without Katie. I was also amazed by all this included. Of course I expected help with vendors and full weekend-of support. But my goodness we got so much more: assembling favors, making 135 ridiculous ribbon tie-things that I became obsessed with and decided had to bundle everyone's napkin, hotel bags stuffed and delivered to each hotel, gifts wrapped and delivered to bridesmaids, gromsmen, readers - Katie, Katie, Katie. I'm a total Martha-Stewart wannabe and *perfectionist* on this stuff. It's incredibly hard for me to give up control of these details and for others to live up to my nutty expectations. Katie exceeded them every time and so, before you knew it, I trusted her with everything and she was able to be all the bigger help because of it. I cannot recommend her or her team strongly enough and can't imagine any bride ever regretting the decision to hire her. All I can say is I feel so lucky to have had Dettagli as our wedding planner and can not say enough good things!! I had a huge wedding and Katie made sure everyone and everything about the day was coordinated exactly how she knew we envisioned. My husband and I were able to truly relax and enjoy each other on our wedding day because we had Katie to take care of orchestrating all the details. Anytime I had a question, she was there to email or talk to over the phone with a helpful response. On the day of the wedding, my dad and bridesmaids came up to me and commented on how impressed they were with Katie. We were lucky to connect with Grace during our original meeting. I cannot say enough about how she helped us maneuver through the many details involved in hosting not only a wedding, but a welcome party for out-of-town guests. Her suggestions about hotel blocks, photo locations, welcome party locations, food and cake tastings, and décor were invaluable! Grace is meticulous, organized, friendly, and a joy to work with. Wow- where do I even begin about Dettagli? From pre-wedding planning to seamless day-of execution, Dettagli completely made our wedding, and I could never have done it without them! My husband and I have said many, many times that hiring Dettagli was the best money we spent on the entire wedding. Not only are Katie and her team absolutely lovely to work with, they are complete professionals and really know what they are doing. Katie was always one step ahead of me, and knowing she was "in charge" the day of the wedding allowed me to really sit back and enjoy the day (which is hard when you have a type A personality!). I have friends who have used other wedding planning services and no one was as thrilled and complementary with them as I am with Dettagli. I highly recommend Katie Kozlowski (formerly of Dettagli Weddings and now with Bliss). I hired Katie for my wedding July at the Ivy Room, and it was one of the best decisions I made during my wedding planning! My only regret is that I would have purchased her services for full scope wedding planning rather than just week of coordination. Bridesmaid forgot to press her dress? No problem, Katie has a steamer on hand the day of. Lantern broke over one of the tables? No worries, Katie and her assistant will hand pick all of the glass from the tables and sweep. Curling iron needed to retouch a bridesmaid's down 'do? Ok, Katie will run across the street and pick one up for you right now! My friends and family kept commenting on how relaxed I was the day of the wedding, and I have to say, it was because I felt totally confident in Katie's ability to handle all of the details.
