I did not luck out with the best weather when exploring the port of Sydney. The Big Fiddle is a work of art, and the craft fair was one of the best markets we experienced on our trip.

The Big Fiddle Market is housed in a large building with shops set up mostly for tourists arriving by cruise ship. The local vendors have some authentic bric a brac for sale as well as some local delicacies like maple syrup and other souvenirs.

Typical tourist stuff at unreasonable prices. And when there are multiple ships in port, an absolute zoo.

Located right off the Cruise Ship Dock. This is a very nice place to pick up local products. They have a huge craft show inside in the hall. There are smaller shops around the building. There are chairs and tables set up around the inside so you can sit and check email on the "FREE" wifi. The prices on the items sold by local artists are very reasonable. This should be your first stop off the ship.

This is the world's largest fiddle! It's really neat to see it up close on the Sydney waterfront. The fiddle & bow reach a height of 60 feet high. It's made of solid steel and weighs 10 tons! It's a tribute to the provinces Celtic community traditions of the area. It greets all the cruise ships coming into port. read more
This market is located right outside the pier exit. Big Fiddle Market is a delightful collection of art vendors inside a large warehouse type building. They had vendors selling 3D figures, crocheted items, paintings, jewelry, books, fused glass, wallets, leathers and more. Street parking available. read more
Great tourist spot with an oversize chair, the giant fiddle, and restaurants with outdoor seating, but the weather was grim. The markets had the usual tourist fair, but it was a lot of fun and certainly good visit. read more

One of a kind sculpture in the midsts of the cruise ship dock. It's ginormous and also plays music. Nice site to see and part of the Big Fiddle Market with local artisans, crafters and vendors. I didn't get a good pic from the opposite angle, but the fiddle was half as tall as our huge cruise ship! read more

This was a shopping mall right at the dock. Lots of clever crafts and interesting, engaging craftspeople. The part I liked best was the free wi-fi after having been at sea and without connections! I found one delightful shop with some of the funniest tea towels and bought more than I should have. I also was able to find some interesting jewelry techniques which I hope to try with some of my raw minerals when I get back to my jewelry studio. If you're docking in Sydney, by all means stop in to see all the different items. And the prices were relatively reasonable. PLUS the dollar was strong so our charges actually translated to a much lower price once the bank converted to USDollars! read more
