What a fun easy way to see the island! Went down South, had a yummy breakfast. The owners are amazing! Great communication. Shared stopping points for our drive. Pick up and drop, couldn't have been easier. Definitely check them out!! 5 stars isn't enough!

Amazing! Rented our buggy for 4 hours ended up doing more time. Great way to cruise the island, I recommend staying on the south side of the island, up north is busy with traffic, and hwy is windy. Bring a buff or tight hat for hair, sunglasses and sunscreen. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and funny.

THANK YOU BIG ISLAND BUGGY!!!! You saved my trip in Hawaii from a tough start to a great ending. I found your old kiosk and was totally interested. After some trouble with transportation in the first few days, your buggy transformed my whole itinerary. It was great to just be alone, or with a friend, going up and down the island in the great, or not so great, weather. It was like a Choose Your Own Adventure. Debi and Aaron were amazing, have lots of great tips and are EXTREMELY accommodating. I read their reviews before booking and they lived up. Mahalo Big Island Buggy. Best wishes and be well.

I have nothing but great things to say about Debi & Aaron! Super sweet couple who run a fantastic business! Booking was super easy online, got to explore the island ourselves, & pricing was reasonable! Would definitely recommend renting their buggy's I LOVED how they dropped off (the buggy) at our hotel & picked it up after we were done. Made the process even easier. Next time we come to Kona, we will definitely be renting another one! Mahalo(:

I booked and then cancelled because I thought it was going to rain. I was going to venture out and do something new. To my (I say now) fortune, the owners weren't sent the cancellation and showed up with the buggy at my hotel. They were Smiling and so friendly! I felt bad. I explained I had cancelled and was worried about the weather when I cancelled. Not only were they understanding and nice about the mix up, they said they'd honor it! No issue, no attitude, just warm people! Based on how they handled the entire situation, the weather report being wrong, I decided why not keep it? The vibes they gave made me remember exactly why I booked in the first place; get out and live life to the fullest starts with letting things flow the way it's supposed to not just what you planned or didn't plan. Because they didn't pressure me in anyway, I was able to get out of my comfort zone. Close out my last day before my next year of birth ( my birthday just started at midnight as I'm writing this) doing something totally new! Start my next year of life with I DID IT! I tried something new! Because of these two's amazing attitude I did just that! They gave me the gift I almost didn't give my self! I drove all over and I'm not a driver by nature; get to and from that's all. Here is what I text them once we turned in the buggy after the amazing trip. I'll share it so that another "me" out there debating on stepping into the next phase of their life and wondering do you step out of your comfort zone??? YES! Rent this! UNPLUG, FEEL THE TRUE AIR OF THE ISLAND, THE BREEZE OF LIFE... get out of the rental car that closes you off from the entire reason you spent the money to come to Hawaii! You came to create memories... so do just that! Wave to people on the street like I did or sitting in an door dinning who smile and stare as you vroom by, be proud you can drive a stick shift, your hair is blowing all crazy and say hi to those who throw up the hang loose or shake their head yes watching you beaming as if supporting your decision to do something totally different and living life having fun on vacay. Smile silly just because your out and feeling like a kid when you first could drive on your own! So here is what I text the owners: Thank you!!!! Best mix up ever! Loved going back in time, like I was driving my first car ever, my red Volkswagen bug at 16! However, now with my two (kids 15 and 12 1/2) and going all over the island. We Built amazing life long memories for us.. plus mommy is cool!it's the 3 of us, no phones or music, just talking and sharing everything we are seeing, getting lost and then trying to find actual gps...on a MAP! They had an amazing time! Oh and we saw some other ladies at the beach rocking your green buggy! We all smiled at each other and said hiiiii ... I see you! Lol!! (All proud as if connected in the; we made the same " oh let's just try this decision"). It was so nice meeting both of you! You made my last day of 51 the best and closed out the year as it should've been! Tomorrow will start the new year of life! Thank you!! Hopefully this helps someone make that decision to actually LIVE on vacation and not just BE on vacation! Thanks to the owners Deb and Aaron I did! Come join me in the "WE DID IT"! Club! Rent one and vroom into the YOU did something new!

Oops don't Pic and drive! Super fun!

Wahoo! Super fun! Rental process was breeze. Customer service was superb. Aaron/Debi we're gracious and very helpful. It's like driving a go cart around the island. We did a 4 hr rental with four of us in the car. We all had plenty of room. No problems whatsoever. We will do this again! Mahalo Big Island Buggies!

What an amazing company! We had the best time ever, in our buggy! Aaron treated us as though he had known us forever, gave great advise, suggestions on places to go, and to have a blast, and that is exactly what we did!

    Hawaii dreamin'

What a fun experience! Time to ourselves, wind in our hair and good times on the road in paradise. Debi and Aaron are who you want to rent from. Great communication, friendly and helpful. Best part of our Kona vacation by far.

What fun!!! My wife and I rented a buggy from Big Island Buggy. Aaron and Debi (owners) exceeded our already high expectations. First, securing our rental online, prior to our arrival was simple. Second, the day before our rental date, we received a call from Aaron confirming the time we wanted the buggy and he informed us it would be delivered to us at our location at that time.. Third, Aaron and Debi met us at our condo and covered the operation of the buggy and Debi went over a map of the island, making some great recommendations of places to see, based on our interests. In summary, we highly recommend Big Island Buggy and commend Aaron and Debi for their phenomenal, and personalized service. What a great way to explore this wonderful island!!

The owners, Aaron and Debi, have found a niche. Their dune buggy rental is such a great addition to the must do activities in Kona. It is so much fun and better than driving a regular convertible! Reservation is hassle free. They even deliver the buggy to your hotel with chairs, umbrella, and cooler to boot! We had to make some changes to our reservations because we overbooked ourselves. Aaron was so gracious to accommodate our request. The day before we got the buggy, we asked Aaron if they had boogie boards we could rent or borrow. They brought us two boogie boards free of charge What great customer service! We only reserved the buggy for 4 hours but ended up extending it for a couple more with no problems whatsoever. We really should have reserved it for 8 hours! We plan on reserving it for a couple of days next time. This is really a must do if you're in the area, and you won't find better operators. Just the best people to work with.

Having been a long time VW guy and owning over 5 Bugs in my life - but never a dune buggy- I was totally excited to rent a buggy for a few hours! I was not disappointed- we rented the Tang, just two seats and room for beach chairs and other equipment (provided by BIB) Thanks to BIB for some great memories

We did a 2 day package encompassing the islands most beautiful waterfalls, nature reserves, botanical gardens, volcanoes, beaches coffee farms on old town Hilo. On our first day with Jason our driver and guide picked us up on time and with a smile. He shared his knowledge along the way wearing a microphone in the van so everyone could hear comfortably. At the attractions he was with us giving us history of all the waterfalls. Whiles driving he told us about the sites inbetween. At lunch time he provided us a delicious meal from a local restaurant. Day 2 with our driver Derek was in another new van that was also comfortable and roomy. Derek took us to a working coffee plantation to see, smell and walk through the farm. At Kīlauea volcano national park where we got to see upclose and personal the caldera in all its majesty. All the time telling the history and recent activity of the volcano. We saw and walked on a beautiful black sand beach with segregated sea turtle nesting area where we saw a turtle swimming ashore and resting at waters edge before digging a hole in the black sand to lay her eggs in preparation for the next generation of turtle, we walked down and into a 30 meter lava tube and got to visualize the path of a whole lotta molten rock traveling through centuries before. Culminating the day's trip by stopping on a mountain top in almost complete darkness, the moon was in a waxing crescent and producing very little nighttime light. We bundled up to stay warm in the 50 degree Fahrenheit temperature to stargaze. It was refreshing in the cold air, outside the van huddled in a group while Derek pointed out, planets, stars, constellations and galaxies as we stood in awe of the majesty above us. Wasabi Tours, Jason and Derek were on-time, safe, informative and most of all fun to spend our time with. I highly recommend taking a Wasabi tour to REALLY see the big island. Thank you all!

I'd give the *tour*, which they only do a couple times a week, so we had to adjust our schedule a bit to make it to one, a 4/5. It was interesting, but you don't actually get to see any chocolate being made, a lot of it was just discussion (albeit: discussion while standing in a production cacao orchard - I'd never actually *seen cacao trees in person, they are pretty cool! Cool, but also full of spider webs.) They also cut open a fresh, ripe, not-processed-yet cacao bean at the end of the tour, and we got to try a little bit (it's delicious - sweet and fruity, nothing like chocolate. I wish we'd gotten to eat a bit more of it, honestly.) It was an interesting tour, not sure it was worth the extra planning it took to be there for it though - other than the fresh cacao fruit, you don't get anything you can't also try in the gift shop any time of day.

The color of Mauna Kea with the moon shining on it was so magical all around us. There were some clouds that cleared pretty well by the end of our star gazing. We were the last ones up there so it got dark enough to see more than you'd expect with the moon. Jeff, our awesome tour guide, used a laser pointer to help us see the constellations we usually can't back at home. The images on the digital telescope like nebulas, the moon & star clusters were an amazing addition to have as keepsakes. My husband and I felt he made the tour a great balance of learning and fun. He had the group feeling like family before we even left from the pickup lot. Things to consider: I do recommend following the moons cycles booking this tour/your trip if this is especially important for you to see as many stars as possible. The sunset and views of the observatory's make it awesome anyways :) I struggled with altitude sickness around 12,000 ft. Jeff had made sure to let us know beforehand if we experienced any issues to speak up. I was hesitant as I know it would mean turning the whole tour around, but some tingling turned to dizziness and then a brief fainting. He immediately stopped the bus and helped ground me and make sure I was completely okay & coherent before letting me know our options for the tour. We made it up to the top with 2 more (included in tour) stops and I felt better with each one having more time to acclimate :) Thank you Jeff!! You handled this so professionally and I appreciate your check-ins for the rest of the trip. It's cold even with parka and gloves. It's so worth packing warm shoes and layers. The bus had ac and heat so that was great! Do it if you can! Awe-inspiring! Such an unreal environment that makes you wonder about so many things. Just take the precautions seriously, move slow and breathe deep.

The submarine can get to 100 ft pretty quickly and I was surprised that my ears did not get plugged up. We saw lots of fish that day. Some get really close to the submarine. We even saw a school of fish! My only disappointment is color. At those depths, everything has a blue tinge so sometimes it was hard to identify the fish. The operators and tour guides were so nice and informative. This was one of the best tours I've had on this trip. Thanks again for a great excursion!

We went down over 100 feet, and we saw so many different types of fish as well as two shipwrecks! Our guide, Eden, was full of helpful information about the sea life and local culture and history, and she was unendingly patient with one of my kids who had a million questions for her. She didn't mention tips, but at the end, she got a lot of cash from all of us because she absolutely crushed the tour. My only nits were 1) finding the meeting place was not obvious because it's inside the neighboring hotel-- not sure if we missed those instructions somewhere. And 2) we donked our heads twice when looking out the viewports when we were looking at some fish-- not because the submarine was moving too fast, we just got excited looking at fish hah. Anyway, some padding would have gone far. Anyway, I know it seems touristy, but this one is actually worth it-- so much that we've done it twice over a couple decades!

OMG! What an AMAZING memory that I now have of the Big Island of Hawaii. First, Chuck and Gloria…read morewere the perfect hosts. Everything felt very casual, friendly and safe. Second, you can sense their love for the island and its eco-systems. (As an example, they would never throw an anchor onto the coral reefs, but insist on using an existing mooring buoy.) Third, they never assume that you are an expert snorkeler or swimmer. (They are always checking in to make sure you are comfortable and safe.) Fourth, Holy Cow!!!!! It was SO much fun to "skinny dip" in the ocean! (There is something kind of primal about it that is hard to describe here.) Fifth, there were SO many fish and the coral reef we stopped at was lovely! I am not kidding when I say I say at least 3 dozen different species of fish. Sixth, Our group was awesome. Some of the coolest people from around the world! I made some new friends! My Hawaiian vacation would not have been the same, had I not been able to "swim nekid with the fishes"!

I also received a call the day before the tour and the lady answered all my questions. Addison was our guide. Our pick up point was Kona Crossroads Shopping Center. After this, we picked up the rest of the group at Queens' Marketplace. All in all, there were 14 people in the Mercedes Sprinter van (excluding Addison). The van was clean and customized with an area at one side that served as a mini overhead bin. We went to Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station. At its grounds, there was an opportunity to hike a little and see silversword plants (I did not see them though or maybe just did not know how to identify them). We had our early dinner there at about 4-4:30pm which was included in the tour. The veggie lasagna and brownie were good. Since this was about 9200 feet above sea level, I noticed that I easily got short of breath and lightheaded (which is not unexpected). The company provided warm Arctic style hooded parkas and one-time use gloves that kept us warm. We then proceeded to the observatories. A segment of the road up the observatories was not paved and it can be a little bumpy. By the time we got up the summit, the sun was indeed about to set. My lightheadedness and headache improved a little and I was able to enjoy the majestic view of the colorful sky and the clouds. A couple in our tour got engaged at the summit! After the sunset, we went to a lower elevation where we had the stargazing. We had warm beverage (choice of coffee, cocoa, apple cider) that was perfect for the very cold temperature. Learned about stars, planets, and had some astronomy review! Addison oriented us and showed us the stars. Using a Celestron telescope, we saw a few celestial bodies including binary stars, ring nebula (though it was very small to me), Saturn, and our moon. My acute mountain sickness was not too bad (and it got better with the descent) and I still enjoyed the experience. Bring your water bottle and don't forget to hydrate up there.
