Dr. Mitsui was very friendly, efficient, and thorough. He was very patient and answered all of my questions and concerns. I was in and out within 40 minutes as a new client, which made me very pleased. Also should note, these guys fit me in last minute when Eye Care Hawaii canceled my appt 10 days before my appointment because I didn't confirm. I was already fed up with their unprofessionalism and 2 hour long eye exam visits, so I decided to drop them altogether. I'm so glad that I did! This "doctor" examined my eyes and found (correctly) that I needed correction for all three fields of vision: close up, middle and deep distance. He said he prescribed the right lenses but when they came, he changed his mind telling me that I had to settle for distance vision only. read more

Dr. Mitsui is awesome, and his staff is super friendly. Went in for a 9:15am appointment and walked out with glasses 45 minutes later. Best vision center I have ever been to on Big Island and Oahu. Went to Bertania Kaiser two years ago for glasses and it took three weeks to make my lenses. Will recommend to family and friends always!!! Thank you BIVC. read more

I'm on vacation from Seattle and suddenly realized that I forgot extra contact lenses in the fancy brand I'm prescribed. Several phone calls of futility later, I thought I was stuck until Big Island Vision Center told me they have some extra samples that they could give me. Walking in, I noticed how their comfortable and nice office environment was matched by a most pleasant office staff. If I lived here , this would be my top choice of a vision center, and I will be forever grateful for their generosity. This and Eyes on Fremont in Seattle are just tops!! read more

The receptionist and the other girl were very rude and condescending when I went in on March 2. The other guy was always smiling even though there was nothing to smile about. Unfortunately, optometrists are hard to find in Hilo so will be going back until I can find a good doctor with caring staff. read more

The woman at the front desk had a misunderstanding about insurance yelled at me then canceled our appointment without informing us as retaliation. Then she lied about it and said someone called in and canceled it when we showed up for our appointment. But if you can get past the receptionist with a God Complex the doctor is very nice. Because of that behavior we will be getting our glasses elsewhere. read more

I noticed my granddaughter who was visiting me for the summer had problems seeing at a distance. I contacted the Big Island Vision Center and they were able to give her glasses that same day. This clinic not only has the friendliest staff, and Dr. Mitsui has a unique and warm way of working with children. He made her feel very comfortable and complimented her. She went back to the mainland telling everyone the doctor said she should model glasses for children. My family and I have been going here for the last few years. The doctor is very friendly and efficient. He does very well with my kids. Depending on your needs, you can sometimes get glasses made the same day. I don't necessarily think the receptionists are rude, but it would be nice to see them smile more often. I can handle a monotone receptionist as long as the doctor's good. read more

Dr Mitsui an awesome optometrist; his clerk is another story she is rude with no personality what so ever I have worked as a clerk in the eye department and have gone to many eye doctor never have I met the most rudest clerk ever she told me well I waited for you to call for an appt but since you didn't your next appt is at 3:15 pm on Thursday and she is aware that I am a vistor here from Denver Colorado and needing to see a VSP doctor and don't have a car I am with friends then when I went in she called me to the desk and said you was here in Nov and you didn't pay so I am collecting it now and she knew that I went to my brother's funeral because I explained it to Dr Mitsue although it all sounds like an excuse I can't just go when I want to with no car; but evidently that's not her concern she is heartless.......will not go back....Dr Mitsue need to have a more pleasant and professional clerk in his office hope he reads this and I truly hope she does too. I am glad I kept my composure cause I could've been rude back and worse. No one has to go through this in any business I am a customer an I deserve to be treated justly and they also have tge right to be treated justly too they need more training read more

Loved them! ... I was very satisfied! I've been on the big Isle for about 10 years now and liked Chamblor the best, but Chamblor announced that they no longer take patients who have basic needs :( What I really liked was that they booked an appointment for me for an immediate date... no long waits. Doctor was serious, but gave me a great pair of glasses that worked better for me than past pairs. Staff was friendly and down to earth. read more

Fantastic! My appointment was on time, no long wait. The machines and instruments were very up to date and modern, more than any other optometry office I've been to anywhere. This was comforting because I think it shows they invest in updated machines while being in the business for over 25 years to ensure the best quality care for patients. The doctor was very patient, very polite, and personable. He answered my questions very clearly and took the time to make sure I understood everything. By far the best optometry visit I have ever had, even though I now know I need reading glasses. I highly recommend this practice. read more
