I scurried down the bluff of the sand dune to wander among the wildflower but still saw no water. This campground is very far from the water if that's your goal. The bathrooms were well maintained. We did not use but there were also showers available in exchange for tokens via cash taking machine. Recommend bringing small bills if would like a shower! Very dark skies, wonderful for seeing stars!

We usually…read morestay at the beach houses right across from Martin Bay, but we weren't able to secure any spots there, so we went with the only available area for a group of 10, and Eagle Canyon was it. Based on other reviews and the photos I was able to set my own expectations for the trip. I knew our cabin, the lily pad would be tight. But it was just my husband and two little kids. Our cabin was narrow, but still had a semi-kitchen. Mini fridge, stove up, small bathroom, and a bunk bed + full bed in the bedroom then a futon pull out. My 6'4 husband had to sleep on the futon because he was too tall for the bedroom, but that was fine by me because the bed was actually really comfy. Overall, we spent almost no time in our cabin. Our in-laws had a butterfly cabin which is very similar layout to the lilypad, and my mother and father in laws cabin was the eagle, so it was bigger. They had a full fridge so we stocked a lot of food there and they were a bit more secluded. The cabins we were in are tucked in between mobile campers so we started with a lot of neighbors and then they left over the week and it was just cabins. Now, onto the amenities, they have a general store with a lot of what you might need if you forgot some food items and drinks, including alcohol. They had beach toys and stuff for kids. The staff was SUPER nice and really friendly. The play ground was nice, they have basketballs for the court, and we enjoyed the pool, it was really perfect for toddlers not sure about teenagers. On our favorites was the pony rides on Sunday, our kids really enjoyed that. It was a really unique place to stay for 3 nights and I enjoyed getting all my steps in going back and forth. There is a trail to walk close to the beach. If you don't mind the 30 mins daily drive to the beach its a good place to stay.

We stayed in the Eagle Cabin which was very comfortable and perfect for what our family of 3 needed. The bed was comfortable and towels were very nice for a camping cabin. The only slight complaint/feedback I have was that the kitchen items could have been in better condition but it's a small cabin and understandable that they're kind of bare minimum. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the entire area and overall respect of the property and other guests. The pool wasn't exactly first class but the kids LOVED it and had a blast. Very friendly service. The location was OK- a bit of a drive (10 Minutes to the nicer beach) but we would totally stay here again and highly recommend. (I also want to add that adjusting your expectations is helpful- I looked at some of these reviews and honestly, You are signing up for a camping area in Nebraska- not the Ritz. We have been to beautiful spots and airb&bs and we're pretty picky so this was exactly what we signed up for- a fun low key family camping adventure)

To my surprise, we the campsite was really great and we all had a fantastic time (and no one killed each other!) We are big campers, living in Colorado, but this Nebraska campsite was really pleasant in comparison to many we've been to over the years. I credit our campsite location (78/79/80) because it was nice a shaded, not super crowded and had a beautiful view of Lake McConaughy. The sites in the front near the restroom and shower facilities were really crowded and loud, so my experience would have been much different if we were there. The bathrooms were really nice and even the outhouse near our campsite was not terrible(you know... for an outhouse!). There is a great little store at the entrance that sells pretty much anything you can think of (including coffee!!! since the person in our group in charge of the coffee decided to sleep in both mornings!! She's fired!) All in all, we had a great time and will most definitely be back!

We love that they can pull their campers right to the beach and create your own camp. There are different packages so you can get all you need. This year we added another camper to accommodate another family. It was great to have 3 different campers to relax in during some chilly days. We also ordered fire wood and corn hole boards a picnic table and chairs. I highly recommend all of these. We also rented the boat with the slide and was unable to use it due to high wind. These guys KNOW what they're talking about when it comes to weather, I can assure you they don't cancel boats out of any other reason than safety. We ended up with a pontoon the next day (no slide sadly) and Jason said very sternly wind was coming by 4:45pm and he wasn't off by the minute, the wind picked up so fast it could have become a dangerous situation with the little kids in the water and we raced back off the water. I really appreciate their concern and they are super helpful even if we have to call and wake them up :) Really do enjoy our time here every year because they make it so much fun.

So we went to a different boat rental place and they have heard that they cancel on people a lot. So if you want a better boat rental choose Ski Patrol! We rented from them without an issue and were able to enjoy our vacation with friends. Kind of disappointing to be lied to maybe you shouldn't have that boat out to rent if your not going to rent it!

The Kite Ranch used to be based out of his garage next to his house (off the access road to Lake Mac) but he's recently just opened a new shop location right across from Access Road #2 (arthur bay). Learning how to kite at Lake Mac can be a great experience with good wind. The beaches are wide and expansive with little to really hurt yourself on. The water is flat (usually) and not salty. Bob goes through the basics with you on safety and rigging up your gear. Then he takes you out to the middle of the lake with you following him on a jetski. You then swap places and practice your kiting skills far away from anything hard that you could slam yourself into. He's carried BEST brand gear for the past few years, but it seems like he's recently started carrying Wainman, Ocean Rodeo, and CrazyFly. He has all the gear you need to get started. I've bought a kite and vest off him in the past. Strangely he still doesn't have shirts available. Give him a call/email if you're at all curious about getting into kiting. Knowledgeable, lives close by, and a friendly guy!

The greens which are huge were in perfect shape. It takes time to learn the design philosophy here. Lots of ravines and scrub you need to carry on your drives but wide fairways beyond it. Some holes have blind shots because of the rolling terrain but not penal at all. The clubhouse staff was wonderful. A quick lunch at the turn was available and the pace of play was good. I would play here again and again
