The street sneaks up on you. This peaceful garden is located in a quiet neighborhood and is a great place for a small stroll or peaceful hideaway. Theres a small parking lot for about 8 or so cars and it wasn't busy on the weekend I went. European outdoor art exhibits inspired this artist to start his own sculpture garden. There definitely could be a lot more art but theres statues tucked away in small paths that you have to meander through so take your time exploring. It's a cute neighborhood attraction and if you're around it's worth checking out but I wouldn't recommend going out of the way to visit. Dogs are not allowed. read more

Big Rock Park is a fantastically unassuming, little gem here in the Silver Beach area. We recently checked it out during our quest to visit all of Bellingham's city parks and really had a great time. When you approach the park, you'll wonder if you're in the right place because it is basically in the middle of a neighborhood, but keep going and you'll make it to the parking lot. The park itself is not terribly large and you could walk the whole thing in 10-15 minutes, but the beauty lies in the several statues, sculptures, and structures strewn throughout the area. If you go in the winter, you're likely to have the park to yourself, which can be really magical in the snow. This is a really unique little spot and would be a great place to bring out-of-towners for a taste of Bellingham's subdued excitement. read more

Big Rock Garden is one of many parks managed by the city of Bellingham. It's actually a garden. It is open to the public (free of charge), but you cannot bring pets or bicycles inside. This is one of my favorite places in Bellingham. Big Rock Garden is a small garden, featuring a sculpture collection and plants native to Western Washington. While it's not a Japanese garden (except for some of the elements), the tranquility of the park feels very familiar to me. The garden is very well maintained, and it is easy to access. There's a small on-site parking lot (7 slots) right outside the gate. Also, there are bathrooms inside the garden. Because of all the tall trees, it's very cool even on a hot summer day. If you need a quiet place to take a stroll in, I highly recommend you to try Big Rock Garden. Recommended Access: When it's not raining, I love walking on the Klipsun trail to come up here. I park my car at Barkley Village and walk to the Klipsun trail via Railroad trail. It's an uphill gravel trail going straight up Alabama Hill. I asked about this park in the Tripadvisor forum as it wasn't listed here in Yelp; it was advised that I skip this place as it really didn't have a lot to offer, but I'm glad we decided to go as it wasn't very far from Whatcom Falls Park. This quaint garden sits in a residential neighborhood off the main strip. It's free too. The kids were absolutely thrilled to see deer in the parking lot; two of them! I know most locals think of the deer as pests but we were happy to see them. I was happy because the kids were happy. I couldn't care less about deer. The garden is small, so it's a nice place to reflect. There is a Korean Children's War Memorial pagoda here. Very touching story about the US Military helping the kids over there during the war. I didn't see a bathroom but we were not looking for it. Wish we had more time to spend here looking at all the cool sculptures and art pieces but we had a packed itinerary and had to get going. Definitely a place to stop by if you have a few minutes. read more

This hidden treasure in Bellingham is a great place for stroll on a nice sunny day. It is located North of Lake Whatcom and I usually park at Silver Beach Elementary School during off hours. Within the garden, there are various sculptures and artworks. Big trees provide ample shading throughout. read more

If you like to see art for free and want to take a funny obligatory Eve and Adam photo, then this is the right place for you. I've been here twice in the last 6 months. It has a lot of statues and fancy metal artwork. The place is about an half an acre or more. It's by the lake and easy to get a parking spot. The restrooms here are well kept. The artwork is tasteful and thought provoking. The park has a big fence door to keep out deer and other wildlife, so keep in mind to keep it closed on the way in and out. This place is sort of hidden away in the neighborhood, so you may want to get google maps to help you with directions. read more

I've brought my kids here two handfuls of times and every time we all enjoy ourselves. There's so much to see and learn about. Plants and sculptures. Perfect for spending time together or even for a solo trip it's so peaceful. Lots of trees for shade and it's really nice and well kept. read more

Spent a couple hours here in early May, but could have spent all day! The plants and flowers were lovely, but the sculptures were really amazing. Some were very thoughtfully done and all were placed in great spots. They made for great pictures! read more
