The Place was busy but we were able to get a table, and served in a reasonable Time frame. Our Waitress was friendly, took care of us and was helpful. There are lots of good drink options if you want beer and cocktails. We decided to try a platter so we could try different things. The Brisket had good flavour, but it was a bit dry. Pulled pork was a good portion, but dry and could use more seasoning. The sausage is probably my favorite and I recommend it. Beans were very good a along with the slaw. Great outdoor space with very few bugs. Coming from an American who grew up with bbq, the meats were great - tender, juicy, flavorful. Better than some places I've been to in Montana. The sauces paired really nicely and didn't have that strong mesquite flavor everyone tends to overdo. The only negative was that the cornbread was the worst I've ever had (dry / zero flavor) and I LOVE cornbread so that's worth a full star off for me. read more

We ordered the Jumbo Texas Wings, brisket, chicken, sausage, beans, and coleslaw. The wings are neither jumbo, nor edible. In fact, they were cooked to shoe leather, and were the smallest wings I've ever seen...complete garbage. The 1/2 pound of barbecue chicken consisted of four bone in thighs. They were good, but not what we expected. The brisket was dry and not smoky. The sausage was exceptional. The beans were not smoky, and not all that great. The coleslaw was ok. Overall, I recommend you go elsewhere, unless you just like sausage. read more

We had the brisket, the pulled pork and some ribs. Great meat! None of it was dry or tough. They know how to cook a slab of meat. I didn't try the Ceasar salad, but it was reported to be very good. We did try a bit of cornbread - meh. Needs improvement in this department. Service wasn't bad. Not outstanding, but servicable. Not a big fan of the QR code menus. I hate trying to navigate that on my phone. Print some menus! They limit the BBQ sauce you're allowed to take. I've never seen that at a `BBQ` place. Also, the to go packing for the leftover meat (we may have ordered too much) is a bit janke. You have to wrap your own meat in paper and masking tape. Unless your'e an experience meat wrapper, you may get some meat juice in your car on the way home. Not a huge fan of the music, but if you are going for bad to the bone biker bar for old men-nailed it (80s hard rock). I prefers some slighly mellower fare in the afternoon. I normally go here in the summer on our Sunday drives for Cesar Sunday special with my son. Where there is plenty of seating outside. This is the first time in the winter with limited seating. Today Dec 30, 2021 at Lunch time was a complete surprise when we drove by hubby wanted to try BBQ Pit out. He was tried of my ravings about the BBQ meat, sausage. We drove into the parking lot and the first thing we smelled as we got out of our vehicle, is the delicious smell of barbeque. This place is very rustic/ industrial feel as you enter. There is a freezer/ cooler where you can purchase meat produces that are made in house at a very reasonable price if I say so myself. That's were we were stopped! Before you enter I need to see your vaccination status and picture ID this nice gentleman asks. Took us by surprise, because we didn't see him we were occupied by taking in the decor of the bar with this hug bull head. Showed our status and ID and showed us where we could sit. The place was packed with distancing. Soon as we sat we had a bartender or was he the owner not sure. Anyways he took our drink order after telling us about their special beers. A wonderful waitress Chloe came and took another drink order from us as well as food order. She took her time explaining to hubby how the food ordering goes. We gave her our order of 2 brisket sandwiches with a side of baked bean, bacon cheese scalloped potatoes. She told him to listen for his name and table number, and where to pick up your order. Before we knew it our name was called and up we went to pick up our food. The food came on trays with parchment paper. Off to the the side was a selection of barbecue sauces you can put on your food. This is we're I found it kinda not Covid friendly sauces. Everyone picks up the plastic bottles and squeezing on their sandwich. Not once did I see anyone cleaning the bottles. Was better when they had a pump station instead of plastic bottles. Anyways this wasn't a deal breaker for us, just an observation. The food was delicious, hubby was so impressed by the food and flavours. He had to talked to the gentleman (I'm thinking was a owner) told us once they sell out that's it. He starts the BBQ at 10 pm for the next day. He says they normally are all sold out of meat 7 pm, sometimes earlier. We were told best come early for the best selection, later in the day as things sell out you selections become limited. Plenty of parking. Great access from the north and south highway. When for my husband's birthday. Food was really great and had a ton of leftovers. Only thing is we wish there were shorter tables available for the kiddo and my mom. But other than that, food was delicious, staff is great and service was quick! I wish we had spent $450, purchased our own meats and stayed home. The meat was so dry we needed to order one of their very overpriced drinks (which they really like to push) to wash it down. The only sides they had left were the overcooked cornbread and the beans which had so much chili powder they were not edible. Novel idea to serve meats on butcher paper but on top of cheesy buffet trays?! Why not nice platters or slabs of hardwood with a sheet of butcher paper. The cheap plastic cutlery is a huge mistake. For $450 their should be real cutlery that doesn't break when you try to saw through the overcooked brisket or butter the hockey puck of cornbread. The picnic tables outside are horrendous. We had a hard tiMe staying seated on ours as I am sure it was on a 45° angle. The table was also extremely dirty. We had to ask the waitress to wipe it down before we ordered anything. The atmosphere reminded me of Porky's Bar from the cult classic movie. Definitely not a place I would take my children. Please, spend the money on a good bbq, quality meats and cutlery and stay at home!! You will thank me for that advice. read more

Halfway​ between Calgary and Okotoks, this place promises Texas bbq in Alberta. I actually really like how the place is situated on its own just off the highway. When you pull up, you can immediately​ smell the bbq just from the parking lot. The place itself is pretty cool, it has a very western/cowboy vibe to it and even has ​a massive bullhead sitting above the bar. I like the large tables and causal feel of it all. The menu has been largely printed and is sitting above the kitchen for all to see (I'm assuming it's a covid adjustment). The drink menu isn't printed and the server will just read it off for you. It was a little challenging to pick a drink that way, but I ended up going with a bourbon iced tea lemonade and it felt pretty sub-par. What really stood out for me is their party platters which are​ perfect for those who want to try a little bit of everything. They are adjusted​ according​ to party size so my little party of 2 went for the 'Carnivore' platter. It's meant for 1-2 people but it easily fed the 2 of us. It came with 2 chicken thighs, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and a sausage (all for $35!) I liked that the bbq sauce came on the side and you can add as much or as little as you want to your meat. We also ordered side caesar​ salad and the scalloped bacon cheddar potatoes. Both ​sides were a little underwhelming. The salad seemed to be haphazardly​ put together and the scalloped potatoes were swimming in this very liquidy sauce. For dessert we got the peach cobbler. It tasted very homey and something you can easily make yourself. From other reviews,​ it seems like the service was lack-luster, but we basically had 2 servers and while they were both very attentive and friendly, it made things a little confusing at times (i.e. we ordered dessert with one server while the other brought us our bill and was setting us up to pay). Overall I'd say this place is more of a 3.5, but I rounded up because​ I came for BBQ and I got some pretty damn good BBQ. Pretty reasonable prices to boot. The next time I come back, I'll probably switch up the sides and get a different drink. read more

Figuring I could kill two birds with one stone, I decided to have lunch while I was in Okotoks since I'm rarely in the area. Their menu is short and sweet: meats, sides and desserts. I ordered the ribs and brisket with coleslaw and smoked cheddar bacon potatoes for sides and enjoyed some sun on a picnic bench as I waited. I opted to eat outside, 1) because it was so dang nice out and 2) because I didn't want to smell super smokey from sitting inside. I normally don't dip into BBQ sauce, but I took the root beer and granny apple ones to try since they're homemade and they were pretty tasty! The ribs were perfectly smoked and fall off the bone good. The brisket was fattier than my liking but still flavorful. Didn't care for the coleslaw but man, the potatoes were awesome! The potatoes were sliced up smothered in cheese and bacon and reminded me of scalloped potatoes. Of course, I had to make room for their candied bacon apple crisp. Chunks of apple and crumble drizzled with whipped cream and caramel topped with crisp bacon strips? Un-friggen-believable! Second time coming here and got to say less than thrilled this time around. Ordered the Hog Plate. Pork was served cold & had a bbq sauce explode all over my shorts leaving a stain. All I got was a couple of sorries & a cup of club soda & cloth from the manager to try to clean up - that didn't work. Leaving me look like I peed myself and having a 2 hour ride home in wet shorts. No compensation from the manager either. I wasn't expecting a free meal but a little discount for the trouble would have carried over better. It will be the last time we come here again. read more

I have been here 3 times now and haven't enjoyed anything, which completely goes against my 2 strikes and your out rule. I have traveled the south and know bbq, and smoke at home, and was so excited for this place. But after long waits when not really that busy, combined with super high prices for the portion size, and bbq really isn't that good, I will not be back. It's a shame, I prefer mom and pop places which we are lacking in this area but this place isn't it. One thing I need to add is the appalling behavior or the owner. They have these stupid bar seats near the line and he trys to force you to sit in them. They are completely in the way of everything! The 2nd time I was there people were leaning on a table near the front waiting, which is usual for this place, and he told them all to move! He then started lecturing them about not holding up the table and to use the stupid bar stools. The 3rd and final time same old story. If you want to treat your customers like that with long waits and sub standard food, good luck staying in business. read more

My wife had the jalapeño Mac and cheese she liked it. The sandwiches were served on thick sliced bread. The only thing we found a little lacking was the bbq sauces. This was my first and will be my last visit to Big Sky and I'm sad because I was really excited and looking forward to Bike Night. My husband and I went last night and had a table outside as we where waiting for our friends to arrive on their bike. We had a few drinks and burnt ends for an appy while we waited. The owner, Rob I believe, asked us if we minded a singe guy with OBB sitting with us and we said sure. Here's where it goes really bad...... We had left our table for a few minutes to watch Ashlee do a slow race on the adjacent road. When we returned to our table there where 4 guys we didn't know sitting there, our drinks and our coat had been moved and shoved to the end of the table. They told us the owner had sat them there??? Wait....What? They made no attempt to move nor did they seem to care. The guy who had been sitting with us said he told the owner that we where still sitting at the table when he brought the 4 guys over but he just said that we'd have to find another table. Wow!!! Mind blown, you call that customer service? My husband went to find the him and was told the same thing, well, that didn't go over well. Instead the owner came over and told the 4 guys "no you stay put, I'll take care of you, actually let me set a table up inside for you" He said this right in front of me, and was very rude, didn't even acknowledge me or apologize. You would have saved yourself if you had just had the decency to come over and apologize for the mistake. Sadly though it seems you lack any customer service skills and value "friends or regulars" more than new customers. Sadly you just lost potential "regulars" After reading a few reviews I saw that similar had happened to another person where "regulars" arrived and they where asked to find another table. Sigh, three strikes you're out. This is my third time here each time has been progressively more disappointing than the last. I want to love this place I really do it has a great location the atmosphere is amazing it's a great building. Like I say it has a lot going for it. Alas the food leaves much to be desired it is hit and miss at best. Tonight the brisket was unbelievably dry and its brisket, brisket should not be dry. The portion sizes in my opinion are too small for what you're paying and just in general the food is subpar. If you're looking for a place to go and have a beer this is probably your place but if you're going and looking for outstanding barbecue this is not your place. I don't know what the answer is to this place, they really need to step it up. With places in Calgary Hayden Block, Holy Smoke and others this place falls far short and is fortunate to not be located closer to the competition. read more

Phenomenal BBQ. They are making some pretty great adjustments since opening. I have had the pulled pork, brisket and ribs. All of them are fantastic. The pulled pork had a nice smoked bark to it that was delicious. Not the biggest fan of the mac n cheese, but the baked beans and hog spuds were great. Portion sizes are great. This place can only get better from here, come summer time I could see it being a great place to hang out especially if they throw some benches out front. After driving by this spot a number of times, my husband decided we should check it out. We invited two foodie-friends to join us. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly and shown to a picnic table with an umbrella to provide shade. (Due to the pandemic, indoor seating was not available. Thank goodness it was a beautiful evening for an outdoor meal.) Once seated, our server (Maddie) came promptly to get our drink orders and also provided us with an "orientation" of how to find where the menu was posted, or how we could locate it on our phones. Server Maddie was prompt, professional, courteous and a lot of fun. She was fun to joke around with and was able to give us recommendations when we were stuck to choose between two menu items. Eventually we settled sharing a plate of pulled pork nachos (OMG...delicious, though not what you might expect - only 6 LARGE corn chips but the were smothered in delectable pulled pork, cheese and veggies), Wagyu beef rib dinner, pulled chicken sandwich, pork rib dinner, and chicken dinner. Our sides ranged from the coleslaw (it was average) to baked beans (which were yummy), to bacon scalloped potatoes (which were freakin' amazing) and some cornbread (also very good). We were all very pleased with our meal choices and felt that the portion sizes met our expectations and our appetites. Overall we had great food and drink at a reasonable price, and Maddie's excellent service (as well as the rest of the team, who were always available to top up our water or bring extra napkins) was the icing on the cake - or maybe I should say "the sauce on the ribs". We will definitely be back again and would not hesitate to recommend this establishment for someone wanting some great BBQ at affordable prices. One final thought...I am not a huge fan of eating outdoors, as I find I am usually bothered and distracted by the flying insects and wasps. Amber had heard if this place someplace so we made a trip out to it when we met up in calgary. There was a lit of good and a bit of bad mixed in. Fir the most part find was great. Amber had a brisket sandwich. Very good and interesting choice if bread that was like a dense sourdough. She got a ceaser salad on the side which was good but not remarkable, which is probably the best you should hope for in a bbq pit. Something would be wrong if the salad was a highlight. I had a platter with sausage, smoked chicken and beef ribs with scalloped potatoes. All good, but the beef rib was so good I thought I should have gotten all that. The scalloped potatoes were only passable. Could have been much better. Our drinks were good. Ceaser was was spicy and salty. A couple of big issues were that; one it was noisy and the metal cladding interior only made it worse; and this was made worse by the fact that they don't bring you your food, but yell your name on a loudspeaker and you have to go get it. And they had a lot of staff on hand, no reason they could not do the one more step of bringing you your food. read more

I compare this place to Holy Smoke in Calgary. As far as the taste of the ribs go. The restaurant itself is relatively big inside. On the day of my visit they had a waitress that took orders at the table. They use an iPad ordering system and call your name when your meal is ready. You get a choice of 1 side with your meal entrees. I had the coleslaw, my son the baked beans. The coleslaw is vinegar based not creamy like the waitress told me. That being said the baked beans were the better of the two sides. Not visible from the highway is a huge outdoor picnic area. I did a quick rough count, and if you seat 10 to a table you could theoretically seat another 300 people. I'd like to come back on a nice warm sunny day. It was nice tonight, but the wind really picked up. In conclusion, I'd like to come back and sample some of the platters. It's a nice space !
