I contracted with The Music Machine for my daughter's wedding reception…read more The Music Machine promised two DJ's but only one was provided. No big deal. The problem, however, is that I had a written contract with The Music Machine and agreed to pay $650.00 for the event, paid in full at least one week prior to the wedding. I paid as agreed. And then my husband paid a second time. The owner/DJ approached my husband at the wedding reception and told him that he did not receive the final payment. He charged again for the final payment of $250.00 and charged another $150.00 for the "set-up time", which was not outlined in the contract. I have contacted the owner/DJ twice about reimbursing the over-charged $400.00. At first the owner/DJ was argumentative but finally told me he would get the money to me. Now the owner/DJ tells me he "had to close all of his accounts" and "you don't need the money." The DJ service he provided was OK. I just don't like to be taken advantage of.

Disclaimer: Long, but specific and truthful…read more... I was a very relaxed bride throughout the planning/booking process thanks to the dedicated help of family and friends, and though his "years" of experience seemed like a great background, we were truly tricked. After my unfortunate encounter, it's become clear that it is really, truly important to book a great DJ for your wedding day. A good DJ will help alleviate any awkward moments, will keep your event running smoothly, and will provide the perfect soundtrack to your big day. This DJ service did none of those things. I believe that there were a lot of underlying factors on his end which contributed to the ineffectiveness of his service; however, I will only state FACT here: 1. The DJ made my entrance late. The ceremony was to start at 4:30, which was scheduled (obviously) in advance and his services were contracted to be used during the ceremony. At 4:20, they finally showed up. At 4:25, the DJ's wife interrupted my dressing in my bridal tent to ask a really stupid question: what song I wanted played during the bridal procession. The back story here is that I had emailed a copy of ALL of the important songs for processions, entrances, announcements, etc that I wanted played 2 weeks prior to the wedding date. At first, it seemed very professional, especially to have them call and confirm that it was received, and though they could not find 2 of the songs we requested, they were noted. The DJ asked if I could email him a copy of the bride's procession song, and as a back up, bring a hard copy to the ceremony, which I did. I have email confirmation, though the DJ denies ever receiving any email from me. Needless to say, the DJ did not play the correct song for my entrance to the ceremony, and the wedding started about 20 minutes late, waiting for him to get set up. 2. After that unfortunate mishap, the ceremony concluded beautifully (with no music), and we went on for pictures. When the bridal party returned for introductions to the reception, the DJ specifically went over name pronunciation and order (which was also information included in the initial form that I emailed him 2 weeks ago), and though we went over correct pronunciation and order prior to announcement, I don't think a single name was pronounced correctly -- right down to the Maid of Honor's first name AND the bride's new last name. Also, a bridesmaid and groomsman were forgotten all together in the introduction, which the DJ "apologized" for AND blamed the bride and groom for "changing things up last minute", over the microphone! Even if it WAS changed "last minute" (or maybe it was that he did not bring a copy of our original introduction sheet and requests), if you are an experienced DJ then you should be very familiar with accommodating last minute requests. And NEVER EVER pass blame to your bride and groom -- the people who hired you -- and ESPECIALLY over a microphone. Unprofessional at best. 3. At least half of the songs on the request sheet (again, emailed 2 weeks prior to the wedding date) were not played. Don't bother giving this DJ even an 8 song request list (no exaggeration)-- he will not play half of them. 4. Apart from annoying our guests by talking TOO much, there were numerous awkward pauses in between regular wedding festivities (bouquet toss, toasts, etc) because the DJ was "downloading" the music -- on site -- at the dance floor, rather than coming prepared with the songs already downloaded and ready to go. We listened to smooth 70s baby-making music, rather than the popular mix we requested, as we were catering to many young adults, and our own tastes. 5. Last but not least, a wedding planner had been responsible for the contract initiation, deposit, and other communication (besides our personal song requests), but at the end of the night, the DJ's wife approached myself and decided that it was necessary to bother the BRIDE about receiving the rest of the payment. If you have a party contact, you stick to your party contact- in this instance, the wedding planner. It was a rude, unwelcomed interruption of my evening. I now know that cutting some funding from the DJ budget was a bad move on my part (though his arrangement was not "cheap", by any means), and that I can't blame my wedding planner for this hire, as the rest of the event was so beautiful and ran so smoothly -- I plan on rave reviews for our flower arrangements, catering, and tenting/linens company. The site was perfect. The guests were amazing. I can honestly say that the only regret I had during the planning/executing of this beautiful ceremony was hiring The Music Machine Show.
