In Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth controls all wine and liquor sales (beer is available through…read moreother outlets). This is extremely inconvenient for location and selection, but I don't know what it does to prices. On the one hand, I could not believe how cheap this stuff was, although it's possible that this has nothing to do with the state. On the other, it's probable that competiton would benefit the consumer. In any case, this is my hometown liquor store, although this was only my third visit ever. I've never been in any others, so I can't compare them. The selection isn't bad for a store of its size. About 40% of the shop is wine. I saw all the liquor staples for extremely reasonable prices. What I wanted was rum to make mojitos, and the most expensive bottle available was 10 Cane for $30. It's good rum at a great price; it's just too bad that they didn't have any higher-end product. It's also too bad that I don't have more room in the car for my return trip to Chicago, because with prices like these, I should stock up. We're talking $16 for 750s of Grey Goose, Knob Creek, and Bombay Sapphire. I didn't look at the scotch prices for fear of insurmountable temptation, but they had all the usual suspects plus other pleasant surprises such as Dalwhinnie.

They guy who took my ID said he couldn't serve me (I am fully 21 years old and able to buy alcohol) and he claimed my ID was fake. I offered to show him the plate on my car and multiple forms and he just refused. He said he would call the police so I told him to and he said he "didn't want to get into it." So I called the State College Police where they told me my ID was valid but Hickeys STILL wouldn't serve me. The guy at the counter was an absolute jerk and way too confident in his ability to spot fake ID's when he clearly was incorrect. He did it to my friend too who is also 21. Whoever this 30 year old guy is needs to be fired. Do not go here as you can get better service at Pletchers or the many other distributors in state College. I've spent thousands of dollars there in my life but they will never get another dime. The guy who thinks he is being proactive reading ID's actually is dumb and should review some training courses soon.

This was our first stop on our way. We stopped on a Wednesday at the opening of the winery. Nobody was in there except perhaps the owners were meeting and the lady that waited on us. The winery has been here for a while, the ride to the winery is through a small forest, which is exciting to us when winery visits start this way. We sampled two different ones. I had the reds and the wife had the whites. I like all of the wines that we sampled white and red. But the Rattlehead Red was my favorite and purchased a couple of those bottles to go. This was a good winery and quite spacious as well. I can see how this is a go to place with warmer weather v/s when we went into the code. Highly recommend giving this a chance.
