We were on our way to the Finger Lakes and decided to spend a day in State College, which is only 2.5 hours from us. We've always drove through but never spent time. This was our first stop on our way. We stopped on a Wednesday at the opening of the winery. Nobody was in there except perhaps the owners were meeting and the lady that waited on us. The winery has been here for a while, the ride to the winery is through a small forest, which is exciting to us when winery visits start this way. We sampled two different ones. I had the reds and the wife had the whites. I like all of the wines that we sampled white and red. But the Rattlehead Red was my favorite and purchased a couple of those bottles to go. This was a good winery and quite spacious as well. I can see how this is a go to place with warmer weather v/s when we went into the code. Highly recommend giving this a chance. read more

Seven Mountains has a large selection of grape and fruit wines and they are mostly slanted towards the sweeter end of the brix scale. They have a event room as well as a tasting bar room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The place was very busy the day we visited with an event going but they still had space to accommodate plenty of tasters. You order your flight from the menu at the bar and then carry your selections to a table to enjoy your selections. The parking lot has plenty of space. Easily my favorite wines in the region. With so many great choices, it's a matter of which offerings you want to taste and bring home. We particularly like the Pinot Noir, the Strawberry Rhubarb, Rattlehead Red, Ten Point, the Riesling offerings, the Moscato, All Razed Up, and Sinful (a chocolate covered cherry in a glass). The vibe is very warm and inviting, think a ski lodge type vibe. Pull up chairs at the table or sit in front of the fireplace and settle in for a good time. With a large inviting tasting room with live music and TVs along with a lengthy wine list, Seven Mountains Wine Cellars is a great stop outside of State College. If you're looking for a large inviting tasting room with a wide selection of wines, Seven Mountains Wine Cellars will quickly become one of your favorites. Just off 322 East outside of State College, the location nestled in the woods with plenty of space to sit both inside and outside, live music on the weekends, TVs showing the game, and a somewhat small tasting bar that you'll probably have to wait for an open spot. If weather is nice, this is a must visit. The current wine list features 38 different wines, from dry reds to semi-sweet whites to sweet ports, along with some favorites such as sangria and $2 chocolate shot glasses. There's something for every wine drinker here, and is perfect for groups. My fiancée and I stayed on the first two pages of the dry wines (make sure you start with dry whites then go to the reds). Despite my apprehension due to their catering to a more casual crowd, I was pleasantly surprised by the wines here. Of what I tasted, I really enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon, with a smooth dark cherry-forward flavor, the bold rich Bordeaux-style Ten Point, with Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Syrah, and the lighter-than-you-think Pinot Noir with a little spice and raspberry/cherry. The whites aren't bad either, with the Traminette offering the more memorable experience with an interesting spicy finish. Overall, Seven Mountains won't offer the intimacy of other nearby wineries, but they make up for it with the superior amenities and the long list of quality wines. This is a fun winery that caters to a casual crowd, but wine lovers will still find lots to like at Seven Mountains. read more

If you live in the Central PA region and you've never been to Seven Mountains Winery, you have to go. They have so many wines to choose from! All wines are made onsite. No matter what your taste is I'm sure you'll find something you like. I really enjoy semi-dry to dry whites...so I think you have to try the Vidal Blanc or Trimanette. Both are wonderful and very unique. Another unique favorite is the Blackberry Merlot. I actually had that one served at my Pittsburgh wedding and had so many compliments on it. No matter what you choose, everything is delicious. The winery itself is a gorgeous lodge style building. There's plenty of seating where you can hang out and enjoy your bottle or glass of wine. When the weather is nicer, I definitely recommend sitting on the porch or their beautiful patio. The winery is also a great place to host a shower or reunion. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and nice. Even if you aren't from the area, this place is definitely worth taking a short drive for. read more

Ok, first, the main reason we stop in is the wine, selections and service. These, along with the location, building and overall relaxing atmosphere would normally bring in 4 to 5 stars. So, why only 3? Don't get me wrong, this place is great for the area. What's not great is something I have observed during each of the last two what they call "campfire" nights. Here's the problem. The food service from a local BBQ joint called Boulevard BBQ. The food is good but that's not the problem. This past Friday night was extremely hot and humid. While waiting in line for food, and it's necessary to note the wait was ridiculously long, as it is every single time, but that's another story. The "cook", works in the back of the tent and prepares wings and french fries in the deep fryer. It was good to see he was wearing those thin plastic gloves normally seen worn by anyone handling food. What was not good to see was that as he proceeded repeatedly to wipe his face, arms, head and neck with a towel draped across the tent, he used the same gloved hands to actually handle the french fries from the container to the baskets being served to his customers. In my opinion, this is a very unsafe food handling practice and just plain wrong wrong wrong. Naturally, we bypassed the fries and I was sure to alert the young couple in line behind me. I would've given four or five stars because of the winery alone, however, because the food vendor is part of their event, I just can't go higher than three. We will be at this event again on August 4th and if this food handling practice is corrected, I will gladly update this review. This is really a great event with nice people, good wine, great atmosphere and just a nice place to be on a Friday night. We are fairly new to the area and not experts by any means regarding food handling, however, I saw what I saw. read more

Quality of Wine: It's rare that I go to a winery where I love more than half of the wine. 95% of the wine here is great. While a good review may make you come to a winery, ultimately the wine will make you come back again. Suffice to say this is not my first trip here. Staff: I have always found the staff to be amiable and helpful. While they are frequently very busy serving tastings to the clientele, they never lose their composure and are always cheerful. Further they are kownleganle about the wine they serve and can provide a solid recommendation based on your preferences. Facility: A wonderful modern facility with all the expected accouterments you look for in a local winery. Food: At this time it's bring your own food. While I prefer to have a range of fine cheeses and charcuterie they are between providers. With that said it's a perfect place to bring picnic food and create your own summer day. Ambiance: Let's face it, the environment is an important factor in a winery. Typical wineries are placed strategically to provide a view of some magical vista and create an aire of romanticism. It is quiet. It is calming. There is not a great view. Expect trees. Overall: I really like this winery. While it's not akin to the wineries you'll find in Napa Valley... or abroad... it's quite simply the best around and a wonderful place to visit. Note: They do not grow their own grapes and no longer even have vines on the premises. read more

This place is amazing. I live almost 2 1/2 hours from here, so whenever we are in the area I make it a point to stop here and stock up. The building is rustic looking and very beautiful. They have a nice deck space where you can enjoy their wine, and they also sell various wine items inside the building. They also hold events such as bonfires at various times throughout the year. If you enjoy dessert wines, I very highly recommend that you try their Rhubarb wine. It is AMAZING. read more

One of my favorite places to socialize and meet friends. I started coming here about three years ago as a wine newbie. At the time I was a sweet wine drinker and loved the Tickled Pink. I have since graduated to dry wines. Some of my favorites are the Reislings, Vidal Blanc and Blackberry Merlot (I haven't completely graduated to dry reds yet). I visited Pennsylvania from Arizona and went to Seven Mountains Wine Cellars. After sampling their wine, I asked if they ever shipped to Arizona. They said they shipped there all the time without problems. I ordered 6 bottles of wine and was told the order would be shipped "tomorrow via UPS". The order actually shipped the following week GROUND.....I finally received the wine the FOLLOWING week.....it was delivered WARM......two bottles leaked but all were warm......how long were they exposed to those temperatures? Could not believe they sent wine to a hot climate in early September via ground. A mistake I will not make again.. read more
