It has a small town community center vibe, and there are seating options available to enjoy your donuts once you purchase them. I love this rec-center vibe. The donuts themselves are pretty much what you would expect in terms of basic variety. There wasn't a huge variety available, but there were plenty of flavor options to choose from for even the pickiest of donut eaters. Strangely one immediate complaint that I have about the donuts right off the bat is that there's actually way too much icing or glaze. I got an old fashioned and two krulers, and some others, but there's so much icing on them that the donuts are completely lost and I'm literally crunching on pure chunks of recrystalized sugar on the old fashioned. I never imagined I'd have that complaint, but it is a bit overwhelming. I'll try the others later. I could not finish the old fashioned donut though because it was too sugary. (Took me 3 times to eat that one donut) There was a very tall gentleman in there that assisted me with my order. He was very pleasant and patient with me while I figured out what to put in my collection. Afterward, I sat down and ate part of my old fashioned donut to which he inquired about the quality. I told him it was good, but I should not have. I thought maybe I was just having a sugar issue with the old fashioned. I didn't realize it till I got the entire box home that they are all very heavily coated with the glaze. I thought the box was exceptionally heavy for 6 donuts... In any case, it doesn't really matter. Other than the Bit of Swiss business up the road, this is the only donut shop in town and I'm guessing the one you'll be stopping at when you roll through here as well. I love supporting local businesses and I'm glad this isn't a krispy kream, but I will say there's a little bit more that could be done in terms of enhancing the ambiance of their shop, as well as managing the overall glaze that coats the donuts. But the people were friendly and they were open early, so it was all good. *NEXT DAY I'm staying in an air bnb and Im actually going to take my donuts back. I took one bite of the kruler (yesterday when I got back to the b&b) and it was not good. All sugar on the outside, burnt exterior, but the inside was either raw or I don't know what. It was like wet bread. Literally. Pasty, gloopy, and so greasy/oily. Definitely an issue with the oil, and perhaps the recipe as well. Either way, I don't want to eat the rest and will take them back on my way out of town today. And by the way, it was like $20+ for a cup of coffee and 1 old fashioned, 2 krulers, 1 custard long-john, 1apple fritter, and a peanut butter filled. The long-john was okay, not enough custard and the pastry was dry, over-fried. The apple fritter was also a little burnt outside, but the apple ratio was good. It still was coated too heavily with sugar. I had to peel some of the thicker chunks off first. One bite of kruler and I won't eat that. Nope. I hope they have a better batch today. So, final thoughts... I just dropped off the bad donuts and the owner only refunded the 2 krulers even though I didn't eat the peanut butter one either, and that was after she got really defensive about her krulers (as if I'd never had one) and she refused to receive even the tiniest bit of feedback. Its obvious they were burned, over glazed, and raw in the center but she chose to make me feel badly about bringing them back, then she refunded me from her employee tip jar! What? She was so uncomfortable and unwilling to even listen to me that I felt angry leaving, even though I tried to be gentle. Whatever. My review was going to increase from 3 to 4 if they handled this well, but she didn't. Now it goes down farther than normal because customer service is important but was really lacking here by the actual owner, not the pleasant employee, though. She really put him in a strange position.

My husband's smoothie was tasty and refreshing, and my açaí bowl was perfection. Great size for the price-- packaged to go in a reusable plastic container with lid. The Peanut Butter Banana Toast was excellent-- delightfully crispy & creamy bites of love in between spoonfuls of my fruit/granola-filled bowl of happiness! Very clean and modern inside the restaurant, with napkins and utensils to grab & go as needed. High-Top and bar-style seating along the window made for a great little waiting area while the staff promptly prepared our order (It only took about 4 minutes!) 100% recommend stopping here when you're in the area, and I'll definitely be adding it to my list of new favorites!

I know Caribou Coffee fans have been devastated about their local shop being closed down and I felt that if they have such a loyal fan base despite downsizing I must be missing out by not coming at least once. I also recently found out this is currently the only Michigan location of Caribou Coffee and the next closest spot is in Mishawaka, Indiana. One of my favorite drinks to get at coffee shops as a person who doesn't always want coffee is the chai latte, so I went with that. The BOUsted lemonades I saw on their online menus looked really good so I'll have to come back to check them out. My chai was pretty good, not my most favorite but it's on my list of better than average chai tea lattes. While this location is a bit out of my way, I will be back sooner than later to try more things on their menu. Staff was friendly, area dedicated to them in the grocery store was clean as well as organized and I got my drink quickly. Don't forget to download their app to get rewards as well as the option to order through your phone (this location unfortunately doesn't allow ordering ahead through the app).

The salad came with a lemon garlic dressing on the side, which I didn't pour over the salad, but instead dipped forkfuls lightly into the cup. The salad was huge! There was no way I could finish it, and I didn't. But it was satisfying and made my body feel oh-so good, the way that a body feels good when eating whole foods. Roots Market Cafe has a lot of nourishing options here. I had a hard time choosing what to get, because they have so many tasty-sounding options. Most (all?) of the menu is either vegetarian or vegan, and they offer salads, wraps, smoothies, juices, and a selection of baked goods. This place is also a little market! You can find fresh produce here -- I saw sweet potatoes, broccoli, zucchini, ginger root, bananas, pineapple, berries and other things. They also sell alternative milks, mushroom coffee, organic eggs, kimchi, vegan snacks, and things I have never seen, like vegan marshmallows and vegan marshmallow cream. Who knew that existed? I got my salad to go, but they have a dining room where you can sit and stay a while. The dining room is separate from the market and ordering counter, and is located in an entirely different room.

The hummus was extremely watery--more like a soup consistency than the thick, creamy hummus I expected. It made it difficult to enjoy with the vegetables or chips. Speaking of the platter, for something labeled "party size," there were surprisingly very few vegetables included. Instead, it came with a large amount of chips. I was also expecting multigrain chips based on the photo but they were just plain tortilla chips, which wasn't what I had in mind. The Good Mojo juice itself tasted good, although it was served warm rather than chilled. Overall, for the amount I spent, I had much higher hopes for the quality and portion balance of what I was getting. It just didn't feel like the value matched the price.

Based on the menu on the wall, we were going to order the strawberry chicken salad to go. I ordered a salad and quite a bit of the lettuce was wet and rotting, very mealy avocado, black hair on one of the croutons. And the supposed house ranch tastes like a bad shelf-stable ranch. I have never had a house dressing that does not taste fresh. $20 plus tip for this, never again. The chicken tastes like that packaged cooked chicken for salads from the grocery store. There was nothing good about this salad. They should be ashamed of selling this to people. I also had a bad online experience before not too long ago, and had no plans of even trying this place after that, but I was in the mood for a salad and thought maybe it would be a better experience this time. Experience from a few months ago... I attempted ordering from here and it did not go well. Instead of being reliable and staying present during their scheduled business hours, they decided to close early for a catering job. They did not update the Facebook page or the voicemail, and did not turn off online ordering. I show up for a curbside order. No answer when calling. I get out and see that they are closed and there is a sign on the door, so now I have to figure out something else for dinner. The owner keeps saying they did not receive the order. That is not my problem. You choose this third-party site to take your orders and collect your money. The order was placed directly on their website, but they use Square. A receipt with the order was emailed to me. The money was literally taken out of my account, so I do not understand what they are trying to argue. Square collects money for your orders, and then they give you the money. You are responsible for all of this. If you cannot handle online ordering properly, then do not use it. This is not difficult to understand. Instead of asking me to show proof of the online order and refunding me in cash, I was told I had to dispute this with my bank, which I did. What terrible customer service all around.
