Set a floor below street level, Bikram…read moreYoga Parramatta is a fairly new studio so the usual "stink" of a hot yoga room is absent - WIN. However, what others may not know is that this particular studio feels a tad warmer than others I've been too (namely Caringbah, Petersham and Lane Cove) so the pro here is, you will most likely get deeper into some of your poses, but the con? You literally sweat buckets as you're doing your poses, which of course is fine right up until you do separate leg head to knee where that sweat just drips into your eyes and nose urggghhh. This studio provides mats and towels, sprays to clean your mats post class, showers and lockers and of course, a drinks fridge for when your body is craving some coconut water (at a cost). The teachers here are great and the schedule of classes aplenty so there is always a class to get to during the week - heads up, the 5:30pm and 7:30pm classes are often to capacity (40ppl) so expect a fair bit of sweat flying about the place. Also, stay out of the far back corner, unless you really want to know what hell is like - hottest part of the room, I swear its like 45 degrees there!!

The teachers here vary a bit so my recommendation is to go to a class with Natalie. Her Tuesday evening class is one of the best yoga's ever. She knows her stuff and lets you in on what is happening every step of the way. There's nothing worse than an inattentive instructor! She has sense of humour too, so it's not all daunting, back braking twists. She brightens the room up and you feel like you have done exactly what your body has been begging for. Get there a little early as this class can fill up quick. I went to a Pilates class here and left not that impressed. It may have been someone filling in, it may have just been a bad day for the teacher but I certainly wasn't paid attention to in this class. At $20 a class, you want to feel like it's worth it, and unlike the Yoga, Pilates disappoints. For the more relaxing class, the Thursday evening with Natalie again is just dreamy. Meditation is the focus of this yoga class and it lifts you up and prepares you for a superb slumber. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Jane is the most wonderful teacher, and always attentive to less experienced students. Everyone has different expectations for both the classes and the teachers. But overall, I can't think of one bad thing or experience in Living Room :-)

It seems most cuts,err are here for general fitness, but there are a significant number that have been referred or found this studio after seeking help for long standing muscular or similar issues, where the stand physiotherapy or chain gym wasn't helping. I had first tried Pilates in a gym environment and left less-than-impressed, wondering what the point was. I was reluctant to give it another go until referred here. Edric helped me understand and get in touch with my "core"" and to activate it, which once you understand the difference it is like chalk and cheese. The Pilates exercises administered range from the very basics for beginners to quite advanced ad very challenging exercises that can be extremely challenging to master well, but at all times I have been supervised and coached to make sure nothing goes wrong. i started with a couple of 1-on-1 lessons, which i found helpful, before moving to the small group classes of no more than 4-5 people, where everyone is operating on a tailored program, but still under the watchful eye of Edric and the other instructors. Unlike in the gym, where there are only "floor or mat classes" or "Reformer Classes", there is a wide range of other equipment and props that ensure there are always new ways to test the body and make sure you never get bored doing the same thing over and over again. The other clients that have been in the groups I have attended are all extremely nice and friendly, and it looks as if many of them have been long term clients. Edric told me that before taking up Pilates he had been involved in instructing Tai-Chi for many years, and then studied Human Movement at University. He is very courteous, professional and knowledgable and I have no reservation in recommending his Pilates Studio.

In my quest I decided to give Power Yoga a go. My friend swears by it and since starting she has got herself a killer body so I thought I'd give it a go. I turned up to the 9:30AM Saturday 'Power Basics' class and couldn't believe the amount of people teaming into the small room! People were lining up their mats inches from each other and to my horror the only space left was at the front of the class. The room is heated to 30C so you do break a sweat before you start. The idea of Power Yoga is that the moves are not a separate series of moves but they flow together. What this actually means is that there is no breaks in between poses!! It requires a lot of mental and physical strength to get through a class. I won't be rushing back but it is worth a try.

When I'm here I need a gym…read moreand Fitness First is, as far as i can see, one of the few places that will give you a punch card. Other places you just have to pay membership or a full guest fee. I bought a 10-pass, which is about $8 cheaper, per visit, than paying a guest fee. The gym itself is nice. It leans more towards classes and weight training than cardio, so if it's just a ton of cardio machines you're after, this might not be the place. That said, you can at least usually always find a free cardio machine, if that's what you want. They have a great range of classes. They always have a 6am class but then the next classes are usually around 9. Is it just me that thinks it's weird that there aren't many 7 or 8am classes. Like most there there's just an empty time slot. Odd. The staff are very friendly, especially at the front desk.

Wanted to take a break from…read morestudying and attended their Les Mill Body Attack, and then the Les Mills Body Balance class on a Wednesday night between 6:15pm-8:15pm. All good, got to experience the new releases for both classes last week, as at the time of writing this. Really helpful staff. Internet access and a cafeteria greet you, with a great swimming pool facility. No time to swim, just get ready for the classes. There are an abundance of locker facilities, and ample space to hang up your clothes prior to taking a shower unlike the other Fitness First gyms. Then why only three stars? Firstly, the classes were way too crowded, especially Body Balance. The Body Combat class in the main group exercise room were delayed, and hence my Body Attack class was delayed making me late for Body Balance in the mind-body studio which is a minutes walk. Never mind. With a platinum club you pay platinum prices, even if you do not use all of the facilities. Casual visits are $28 a pop, even though I did achieve my fitness goals on this occasion. However, if you come with a friend or family member who is a member of this gym, or of all Fitness First clubs, you get in for $22. Tried to download the free pass you can use on your first visit to come here, and I received server errors. I like Fitness First, yet I will give the George St Platinum club a try. Great, yet the platinum clubs are still overrated having tried this one and their one at Bondi Junction a while ago.

It's the first time I've tried barre…read more Renee was very lovely, exactly what you'd want in a fitness instructor; very friendly and approachable, offering advice when you're doing something wrong in a warm manner. Power Barre Attack is somewhat challenging, and definitely a great work out. From ballet moves to a few burpees, planks and squats it's really cardio as well as strengthening and lengthening.
