I went in and asked for a chicken and salad 'batch', and to my surprise the owner knew exactly what I was on about! (A batch is a Nuneaton/Coventry term for a bread roll or bap or whatever you call them down here). Turns out the owner is from my home town, small world! It was nice to have a bit of familiarity having just moved to a place where everyone was questioning my accent every five minutes. Anyway I digress - the food is lovely and the staff pleasant. Space is a little tight inside, which can be tricky to manoeuvre with a lot of luggage - and we also noticed a wheel chair user having some difficulty getting through the space. With friendly staff and great menu options, this was a much needed stop during a busy travel day.

Its also a great place in the mornings offering lots of tasty bites (like miniture tarts with spinach egg yolks and gruyere cheese- mmmm heaven) and its nice to have some more inventive ideas for breakfast on the run (we all love a bacon sandwich but not every time!). Coho is ideally located by the station which means it gets lots of people coming in from there but still keeps its regular clientele and often has groups of mates nattering over coffee - this gives the place a bit of soul. I'm drooling just typing out this sentence. I went ultra lush with their summer special Peaches & Cream pancakes that had vanilla and ginger spice baked peaches. Need I say more? It also has wonderful Monmouth coffee and a small but impressive selection of lip-smackingly good food. There's brunch items, daily warm and cold salads, soups, welsh rarebit and cheese and ham boards with chunks of fresh bread. I've tried and loved the latter two but the thing I'm hooked on is their homemade toasted breakfast loaf. It's packed with oats, nuts and fruit and comes with yoghurt and jam. Their selection of home-baked cakes, meringues and brownies also make Igigi an ideal place to catch up with friends over cake and coffee or afternoon tea. The only downside is it's more pricey than other local cafes and is so small, it's sometimes hard to get a table. Anyone for coffee and carrot cake?

So do take the time to sample some beans from these enterprising Brighton baristas. My local SBCC sits on the corner of Norfolk Square and is a welcome addition to one of the less grand regency squares currently undergoing a transformation. All the sites have a distinctly hip interior that you'd expect from a seriously cool coffee house. Personality can be found in the nod to local attractions, such as the pavilion domes in the shop signage and the beach hut mural on the Norfolk interior. If you're after a speedy verdict, THE COFFEE IS AMAZING. You can now move on. I had a cappuccino that came in a generously sized cup and finished off with a heart motif. The heart did look a bit like an onion, but that's ok. I love onions. The taste was rich and warm and a cut above your regular coffee on the go. The reasonably priced drinks come in at around £2-£3 and the tea is just as lovingly brewed as its flavoursome coffee brother. If you fancy a nibble there is an array of cookies, cakes and hot snacks for between £1.50-£3 that are fresh and tasty. I opted for a slither of brownie. I've been tricked by brownies in the past. It's hard to talk about, but they've been deceptively brown yet distinctly lacking in choccy goodness. I'm happy to report that this sweet treat was moist and rich. Phew. So whether you're a connoisseur or after a quick quench, be sure to stop here and have a cup of the hot stuff.

It's spacious and comfortable and is a great place to start the day, with a nice cup of tasty coffee in your hand. Coffee places can sometimes be quite cramped, noisy or busy places, but Small Batch doesn't feel like this at all. The big windows and spread out tables make for a really open feel to the place - leaving you with enough room to relax and not feel as if you're sharing a table with the people sitting next to you. Now, I'm very much a basic coffee kinda girl! It's usually no milk, no froth, no fancy beans! I'm not ashamed to say that I can't especially tell much difference between my coffees and will happily drink even the cheapest instant coffee and enjoy it nonetheless. That being said, the coffee in here really does taste different. It tastes real, if you will... It's strong and flavourful and, honestly, I'd worry that if I stopped off here for long enough I'd soon after never be able to drink my beloved instant coffee ever again. The one pitfall of this place is their lack of wifi. I had just settled myself down with a hot cup of coffee and a opened up my laptop to begin work, when I realised. Ultimately, it's not the end of the world. There are plenty of cafes nearby with wifi available and, in a way (as long as you're expecting it) there's something rather charming about a coffee place where you can't connect. Use this as you time-to-relax coffee spot, rather than your work-away-from-work area.

The owner Elina hails from the Oseta region of south Russia and has brought some of the local cooking knowledge with her to breezy Brighton, and you can tell. The food is exquisite, cooked to perfection and the menu is packed with inventive recipes. Specials change regularly and there is plenty of choice on the regular menu. I recommend the Oseta's House, a delightful dish of scrambled egg with halloumi, tomato, and spinach... it really is to die for! Coffee is good (to this writer's taste buds anyway, but I'm no coffee aficionado) and there are plenty of other choices on the drinks menu. Honestly, if you haven't been here you need to get down immediately. Right now. Drop what you're doing this instant. You won't regret it.

I also had a brilliant fresh lemon and ginger tea and the staff were brilliant - really chatty and friendly, but not invasive. It was the right balance between informal and professional and I really appreciated it. I even left with a slice of Guinness cake (which was to die for). I really love this little spot, and certainly will be back to try the meat and cheese dishes.
