Our dissatisfaction was primarily due to misrepresentation of advertised slogans like "We do it from beginning to end." In reality services were mixed but no one offered a complete, finished project. Lacking services included removing old carpet, additional wood trim work, refinishing, staining and painting. To complete the project we in essence had to become the general contractor coordinating different services which was unacceptable. A friend recommended Home Trimwork in Huntingdon Valley, PA. The outcome far exceeded our high standards. The design manager showcased new ideas and in-depth experience during the 1st virtual session. After a few sessions we finalized the design and went to contract. The project details and timeline were clearly communicated. The project materials manager ordered the required materials and the project coordinator stayed in constant communication. The project started on time and the skilled wood craftsman was exceptional in terms of detail and quality workmanship. The final phase was painting and the outcome exceeded all our expectations. Every Home Trimwork team member was courteous, respectful of us and our property, highly skilled, professional and focused on providing an exceptional customer experience. We "highly" recommend contacting Home Trimwork for any custom woodwork projects.

We had several contractors involved in the project. Around the pantry was wainscoting & a trim that was original to the house, as the pantry was the original stairwell to the basement. Our plan was to convert pantry into the new powder room, as well as moving a wall & adding a desk area. We had planned a week for bgs (Plumbers), 2 dys for my husband to do the walls, He requested 4 ds for the cabinets/desk & wainscoting & then 3 ds for the floors, 2 ds for the painters, which would have given us 2 ds before the wedding rehearsal, just as everything would be coming in for the event. We knew it wasn't ideal, but everyone promised they understood the time constraints & assured us they could accomplish their job within the window provided. We offered to pay extra with the understanding that our project would have to be their only priority during that time. Bgs did a good job but were behind schedule to start which was compromising the whole project. Rob was to install the cabinetry & custom desk & patch in wainscoting, but he was to start after the bgs were done. We had another contractor doing the floors & finally painters to finish everything off. He couldn't start until the bgs were done because the wall where the plumbing was to be added was where the new desk & patched wainscoting was to go. My husband was going to do the drywall, so the night the bgs finished he was ready to go. He had all the materials & ready to go on the d the bgs were suppose to be completed, (Which was a Frid, despite him not actually needing to be there until Mond. Repeatedly the bgs said they done on Frid, but progress did not indicate such. In fact they didn't finish until the following Thursd, which was when He would have been scheduled to be finished. So the bgs didn't come Saturd or Sund, Both He & bgs came Mond, though they didn't seem interested in putting in more than a couple hours of work. By Tuesd night he had everything he could do done & was just waiting on the bgs. He came Wednesd in hopes they would finish, but they didn't once again. When the plumber said he needed to go to the store to get a tool to cut around some framing, He was able to expedite the process as he already had the tool. Finally on Thursd the bgs finished, My husband planned 2 ds for the walls, but He was there to help, keep in mind this was the d he was scheduled to finish & the walls weren't even started. He stayed until 2 a helping my husband complete the walls (He had been there since 7 a). We told him he could sleep in the next d if he needed to because now we were going to have to push the floor people back (They should have been Frid, Saturd, Sund & painters were coming Mond. Floor guys managed to move their schedule around & said they could start Sund & finish Mond. He showed up bright & early Frid morning & worked straight through until 10 PM, again on Saturd & he managed to get everything done by noon on Saturd. We were so relieved as he really stepped up & did so much more than we had expected or than any reasonable person could have expected. The floor guys also did a great job & managed to finish Mond as they had said, at noon. Painters were suppose to finish the stuff in the barn on Sund, to be ready for the kitchen area on Mond, but they didn't show on Sund, Mond they finished the barn, but left early instead of starting on the kitchen which was imperative. Wednesd the painters started with some gripe about the wainscoting finish, we were using a special kind of paint as it was a high traffic area & wanted to preserve the wood, they said something about the wood needing to be sealed first, which made no sense to us, but it was there excuse to leave again. We called He to ask him about this & he was as baffled as we were. He came up to the house & called the painters with us, the owner more or less said the guys didn't feel like doing it that d. He jumped into action & finished the paint on the wainscoting, along with all the areas he had worked, & told us he'd come back the next d when the painters should have been finishing. Again they showed up late after the guy who wasn't even suppose to be there. My husband ended up firing them after a comment by the 1 painter, He & my husband managed to finish all the painting & project was completed in time for the rehearsal. He also ran to the store to get the caulk & other materials we needed. He never asked us for another dime & assured us that he just wanted everything to be right. The way you handled this project with its many challenges was beyond our expectations. I truly can't express in words our gratitude for your resilience & profe

A pleasure to work with in person: Knowledgeable, friendly, no pressure, no upsell, trustworthy. Kontz Construction is a local family business with deep ties to our local community, which we prefer. This was a big job: House & detached garage, 10 new skylights, new gutters. Roof 3 stories high and a very steep pitch. Kontz broke down the prices step by step focusing on listening to our needs, which changed from the first meeting to the 2nd meeting where we locked in the job. Joe Kontz customized the job to our changing needs and focus, which was incredibly helpful. We felt 100% confident at the start of the job, and that confidence was well founded. Work crews arrived on time, polite, and incredibly hard working. The work crews communicated well with our family and Joe, and everyone felt they were on the same page as the big job commenced. Over 3 business days, two roofs, 10 new skylights, and all new gutters were executed. Importantly, the communication from Joe Kontz was ongoing... he didn't disappear during the job and was often onsite, responsive by phone or text. Importantly, the management of trash and cleanup of our property was perfect. Very large machinery (cranes) were managed effectively, with no accidents or property damage (which is easy to do with large machines on driveways, trees, fences, etc.). A huge dumpster was placed, filled, and hauled away professionally. Finally, the dedication of the roofing crew to use magnetic brooms and tools to clear our yard of metal was outstanding. Our property looks better than when the roofing job started! Anyone who has replaced a roof will understand how impressive that is! The quoted price was the price we paid. Prior damages (commonly revealed when replacing a roof) were documented with photos, and additional costs (for new plywood replacement) were explained carefully. These additional costs were minimal and worth every penny. Kontz Construction and Joe Kontz made a "once in a lifetime", critical home repair about as painless as possible. 5 stars is not enough to describe the sense of relief (and pride) we have as homeowners! We made a huge decision and it worked out wonderfully, thanks to Joe Kontz and Kontz Construction. We will always reach out to Joe as a trusted contractor for any job or service he can complete in the future.

Reason for 2/5 stars: Ultimately the job was completed per the contract, but I am not happy with the quality of work or Joe's attitude while resolving issues. I do not recommend Kontz Construction. Notes: Kontz Construction subcontracts with Topline Siding and a gutter company whose name I did not catch. Contracts with Kontz Construction include a requirement for a "positive comment and 5 star review upon job completion to full satisfaction." Kontz was 1 of 5 companies we received estimates from. For all the work done I was quoted $17,550 which was not the cheapest quote, but I felt it was reasonable and Joe initially inspired confidence. That quote did not include residing the gables, but Joe was willing to add those in at no additional cost later on. Time from signing the contract to work starting was quick, only a few weeks. Problems: Channel drain in driveway was not covered and ended up filled with debris. Siding company had to be told three times to do a site cleanup and still did a poor job of it. Fiber optic internet box was carelessly removed which broke the FO cable requiring repair by Verizon. Exterior light was carelessly removed and broken. Other exterior lights were not properly wired when reinstalled. My (brand new) trash cans were used to move debris into dumpster and were broken. A bush was completely destroyed and inconvenient branches on trees were deliberately snapped off instead of pruned. The house wrap had many gaps and was left covering attic and dryer vents. Pieces of siding near the gable peaks were not properly secured and fell off. Misalignment of the siding caused a gap to open. They did not choose to use undersill/utility trim to secure the top row of siding causing it to become wavy as the nails through the bottom edge did not allow thermal movement. An additional issue (that isn't exactly anyone's fault) is that while the house initially had 5" gutters and new 5" gutters were installed, they are actually a bit too narrow given the broad, low-pitch roof on the house and with the type of gutter guards installed there is a lot of water that the gutters do not catch. My impression after speaking with the gutter company is that 6" is what SHOULD have been installed, but the contract was for 5". In my opinion this is simply an oversight. Results: Joe apologized for the lack of cleanup, took $550 off the final amount to compensate for damages, sent the siding company back out to reinstall the pieces that fell off and fix the gap and (after a lot of back and forth) properly install undersill trim to secure the top row of siding. The gutter company has checked the gutters and said that replacement with wider gutters is what's needed, but at this point I'm done dealing with Joe Kontz. While Joe was initially polite, professional, cordial, and seemed like a no BS type of guy, as soon as I had complaints about the quality of work and assorted issues he started speaking to me as if I'm stupid, implied that since I don't live in a "million dollar house" I shouldn't be complaining, tried to convince me that undersill trim is not industry standard, and in general had a really unpleasant, unprofessional attitude about resolving issues. While the contract was fulfilled, the experience was overall unpleasant and given the corners that I KNOW were cut I have serious misgivings about the overall quality and longevity of the siding installation. My experience may be a one-off, Kontz Construction has many positive reviews, but I will never contract with them again and certainly do not recommend them to anyone else. (Review reposted after first one "disappeared.")
