My wife's car was recently totaled in an accident while our daughter was driving. After having the car towed away, we immediately went to our State Farm agent's office. A young man named Daniel Wilson took us to his office and helped us navigate a complicated and convoluted process that included notifying the South Carolina DMV of the accident and getting the ball rolling on having the car evaluated by a body shop for damage. He also facilitated our accident report with the State Farm adjuster. What he did really well was handle my daughter and wife very professionally and put their minds at ease about the process and what would happen next. That took a tremendous load off my shoulders as "the Dad", who is suppose to know all this stuff but really doesn't have a clue. So thank you Daniel for a great job. You made a difficult day a little easier. read more

The grandson of the owner chased our business for a number of years. After being loyal customers of very expensive insurance several years thereafter, they dropped us with little to no explanation. The "under writers" were cited as being the reason, despite very minimal claims and no personal injury at all. The "we care about you and your family" is nonsense. Paying exorbitant premiums for years and then being dropped for using the policies, insane! We will never engage with State Farm again. read more

After paying Billy and his team for 18 years with no needs or claims at all we've finally discovered that when you actually need them there is no one to speak to, no local help at all. Just when you need an advocate they drop the ball. They send you to a national switchboard line and it takes weeks to even get a reply. Swails agency is just fine and dandy collecting their mailbox money every month, but when you finally need them there is diversion and no one that actually cares about you or your claim. I can't speak for all of State Farm, but certainly not a great experience here. My only regret is that we actually didn't have any issues before now so we could experience the lack of care or assistance when your family needs most. Maybe they have grow too large to care, but this family is shopping for new homeowners and auto now. Sign with this agency and you are ON YOUR OWN when you need an expert and an advocate. read more

As a foreigner with an international driver license, i knew it was going to be difficult to insure my car back in July of 2015. Since Billy Swails was around the corner, I went in to get some rates and information. After handling all my documents and going through everything, the rate would be $86 per month for my car insurance. Which I thought was fair so i confirmed everything and when I went to get my car, we arranged everything over the phone. It was kind of a hassle since the person on the phone, wasn't the person I previously spoke to with. In September, i receive a letter in the mail that my policy would go up, without any reason stated. It went up from $86 to $105. I immediatly called the office and another person picked up and told me she was going to find everyting out and call me back. After two days i became anxious about that they were going to charge my card so I called back and another person told me they were handling it. Two days later i received a call from the first person that everything was taken care of and that i didn't had to pay until October and that my rate went down to $76. Awesome good deal. In November, i received another letter, again stating that my rate went up with 30%, back to the $105. So i called the office again and asked them what was wrong this time. Another person that i don't know answered and told me she'll call me back as soon as she knows something. Two days later she called me back and saidl: '"our underwriters have applied this rate because you haven't had an US driver's license for more than 3 years. Also, we will be charging you $150 till February 25th because you haven't been charged the proper rate since September." I try to explain to her that the only reason why i was with them, was because i went in the office with my FOREIGN driver license, because i knew it was going to be trouble and they always guaranteed me that it would be fine. When she replied that she could help it, I basically gave up my insurance on the spot. This is not what customer service should be like. This was a lot of hassle and a lot of stress for something very futile and something that should been easy to take care off. I just now switched to Progressive and am only paying $69 for the same coverage and with the knowledge about my international license. read more

I have been with Billy Swails State Farm for over 20 years. Recently in reviewing my auto policy, I noticed the price of the policy (as listed from State Farm on the declarations page) was $105.00 less than what I was charged over the 6-month policy period. I brought this to the attention of one of the agents and asked her to please explain to me the breakout of how the cost of the policy was priced so we could therefore determine if the policy was priced incorrectly or to determine if I had been overcharged. This proved to be too difficult of a task for her to perform at which time she became frustrated with me so I asked if there was another individual that could handle the question. She brought this to the office manager. While on speaker phone with her and the office manager, I simply stated the policy price is $105.00 less than the billed amount and I would like a breakout of the charges so we could determine where the error took place. While they both stated I was correct, they assured me the billing was correct and basically said that was the end of it. I had to push for over a week to finally get an answer that I had not been given a discount of approximately $50 over a 2 month period thus making up the difference in the cost and the amount billed. I was also informed they would not retroactive the credit even though I had received this credit for my previous policy - thus creating a precedent that I should indeed be receiving the credit. I requested on numerous occasions to have Mr. Swails contact me and this never took place. It has now been a month since this first took place. As originally stated, I have been with this company for 20 plus years and there has been no effort on their part to assist me with issuing a credit. Instead they continually pass it along to their corporate office as if they can't make a decision on this without speaking to another office. While they pass it along to another office, they do not give me a contact to address the issue with nor will they stay in contact with me as the middleman they have made themselves. It is sad to think that customer loyalty means nothing and in this economy a business is (1) is unable to explain what they are charging you without the customer having to push and jump through hoops and (2) thinks $105 is an insignificant amount to be bothered by and unwilling to refund even though this was their error. Needless to say I no longer have my auto insurance with Billy Swails. I was able to obtain the same coverage with another company for less than what I was paying him. Be aware they are a friendly office and more than willing to sell and take your money. They are not so helpful when it comes down to they made a mistake and you need to be refunded. Do not expect to be rewarded for loyalty and do not expect to receive any follow-up or follow through. Billy Swails State Farm is not the neighbor you want to have. read more

After being a client at Billy Swails' office for nearly five years, I am transferring all of my accounts to a different agent. The first few years were fine; every State Farm agent/office I had dealt with previously was amazing and this office was no different...Unfortunately, in the past couple of years, it seems like the personal level of service at Billy Swails' office has seriously declined; which is unacceptable considering that personal, individualized service is the primary reason people use State Farm insurance! In addition to that, too many things started to slip through the cracks as far as policy changes and added/removed vehicles. The final straw was when we had to contact the office three separate times just to ensure the policy on my wife's brand new car had been fully executed...each time it had NOT been done yet but we were assured that it would be completed immediately. I am tempted to rate one-star, but because of their initial year or two of acceptable service I will give two. read more
