What a cluster F! Valentines Night 2026. They advertised 10 oz Ribeye Dinner for $20 something. We ordered at 520 pm and they ran out! The special started at 5:00. So we ordered burgers. 1 hour and 5 minutes later they arrived. Some lady apologized but this was such a terrible way to run a business! We won't be back and will tell others to go elsewhere! read more

My family has been coming here for years because my parents have a cabin on Long Lake. It's pretty good although I haven't taken a bite of food from this place since probably 2016 so i'm not going to comment on that. In the olden day I ate the cheese curds I think. Well it's interesting to think back on my times at this little bar because my first memory here was when I competed in some karaoke competition and one reason I lost points was my outfit. Whatever, I was 11 years old and I guess my style just wasn't that good. (Pre teen awkward phase I suppose.) Now I came here this past weekend and while I now save the karaoke for the privacy of the cabin, I am out here drinking beers and dropping $100 on pull tabs just to win $2... can't say gambling was ever a great investment for me but at least I had fun. OK, people! I was discussin' the town of Vergas, MN with a coworker, when she threw advice at me that the li'l burg is a hot spot of great canteen comestibles. Of course, now that she got my radar pingin' for a road trip, I gotta suit up and hit the road. I already covered another spot in Vergas, and it was outstanding. So, my expectations were pretty high. I rung the conductor and asked if he wanted to try this joint out. Two Yea votes took us down the road. The destination: Billy's Corner Bar. According to my recon team, Billy's puts the town on the map for grilling great grub. It was gettin' purty late, so we were hopin' to jog the crowd. Billy's is easy to spot. It's a colorful joint that stands out from all the other shops that shutter in the PM. We walked into a party of maybe 20 or so locals who seemed to be having a great time and grabbed a booth. Now, it's the Jena (pronounced Jenna. I had to ask 'cuz I ain't that smart) show! Jena was on us like cops on a donut shop. Dropped a couple maps and filled a couple cups. We rolled the dice. Mine came up Reuben Burger. Sidekick came up classic Reuben. It looked like half the bar had been tucked in for the night, so we expected a little wait time. But, while we're waiting, lemme tell you what! The price point on the burger was dead on. 9 bones and some silver for a half-pounder! That's what I'm talkin' about! Small-town hospitality for a small tab. Gimme some of that! Well, what Jena brought back was above my expectations. This burger was the big bull banquet! One thick & juicy burger with a sizable slab o' corned beef over the dome! I'm glad it had been 9 hours since I last took a bite, 'cuz this one was going to stuffed and sleepy! I gotta say. The appearance of the burger was outstanding, but it was nuthin'... NUTHIN! compared to the taste. Ol' Jocko, slingin' hash in the back, been in the rodeo for a long time to be able to coddle this concoction of cow candy! The grill doctor must work an open fire, 'cuz the flavor was BLAM! like char off the embers! It ain't always that I get to express such enthusiasm for bar grub, but Billy's got it down to a science. Trust me when I say that you would have a tough rut getting a bad deal at Billy's. Vergas is an oasis of tight tiny town taste. If you ain't too far out in them lakes, do yourself a flavor and roll into Vergas. I do gotta address that our waitress was on time with everything. She was prompt as a textbook server. However, and I hope she don't take this wrong, but I am accustomed to a few more smiles from the customer-facing cast of characters in the play, if you catch my drift. That being said, we are a couple ugly dudes, and a lot of people are put off by our second-rate mugshots. But, whatever! She did the job, and happy hour was long gone. Drinks stayed tip-top. Food was out fast and hot. What am I complainin' about? I'm tickin' 5 stars, lack of smiles aside. Jena takes care of business! That's the money-maker! You know me. I gotta heart o' gold. My buddy is a pretty generous old dude. We considered that our server mighta gotten rolled by some rough customers, and she wasn't in the mood for our shenanigans. Fair enough! We sill went half-tab on a sawbuck/stovepipe cabbage combo, rollin' a total up over a dub. So, we made sure Jena wasn't too inconvenienced by our late-night orders. That's what you gotta do, folks! These people who live in these remote towns ain't exactly pullin' in the stadium crowd. But, in the land of 10,000 taxes, the guv'na ain't gonna let 'em slide just 'cuz they can't see the Twin Cities skyline, right? Help your neighbors make their monthly payments! Be awesome! Just left Billy's bar, ordered 3 burger baskets and two appetizers. Ordered well done burgers they were undercooked, BBQ sauce Ranch and honey mustard 75 cents a shot glass, greasy mushrooms, greasy fries and on top of that no napkins. All for $74 read more

Can I give zero stars? I was so excited to eat at Billy's - was in Vergas several years ago but missed Billy's and have followed on FB since and thought it sounded so great. Came all the way from California in Aug and my cousin and I made a special day for Billy's only to be summarily ignored. Were given menus and tepid coffee and that was it, and it was nearly empty! Very open, well lit bar. The waitress was very prompt in taking our drink orders and taking our food order ....... electronically! I don't think I have ever given an order and had it processed on what looked like some sort of PDA. We ate here on a Sunday afternoon and were seated at 2:45 and was about 2/3 full. Come to find out that BINGO started at 3pm and it appeared that they were serious about their BINGO because they had video of the next ball coming up, a big scoreboard that kept track of what had been called already. The pots for the three hands that we were there for were $101, $51 and $49 I think. I ordered the bacon cheese burger with onion rings. The burger is 1/2 lb burger with a nice, fresh bun from a local bakery. On the menu they say that burgers take 20 minutes to prepare but ours were done in 15. The burger was too done, had lots on black on the bottom. The bacon was nice and fresh and saved the meal from going down to a two star meal. The onion rings were also good, not great. The meal lacked flavor and I had to put ketchup on the burger and it is VERY rare that I do that. It's even more rare when I add mustard and I had to do that also. I'd love to come back again and tell the cook to make it a medium or medium rare burger, would make it a much better experience. There is also BINGO on Thursday's at 7pm. Was here a couple years ago and the food was great. Not the case any more. The service is pathetic. We got the hamburgers which says will be cooked medium unless you told them other wise. All of are burgers but one was cooked well done and the one that was medium was supposed to be well done. We asked for ice and lime for the beer cause it was not that cold and you would have thought we killed someone lol. Went out of my way to come here again but I can say I won't be back. Great place to hang out with friends. They have fast and friendly service with good food at a good price and if you go during happy hour they offer 1/2 price drinks and appetizers. The place get very busy on Bingo nights which are twice a week so get your table early if you go for Bingo. Terrible service and food. We came here because we heard they had good burgers. The menu says burgers are cooked to medium unless requested otherwise. We ordered our burgers medium rare. The food took forever, the burgers were cooked well done, and the meat was extremely dry. The waitress didn't come back to refill drinks or check on us so we had to ask another employee for help. We sent the burgers back and the waitress acted annoyed and didn't apologize for the burgers. She came back wth our new burgers about 45 minutes later, threw them down on the table, walked away, and didn't come back until she brought the check. The second round was just as overcooked. BILLY'S bar is a Minnesota Icon and deservedly so, and someone told me along time ago that Billy's Bar made some list of the top 100 bars in the usa. I believe it and I am such a fan of this place.
