Hidden gem. Small but worth the drive! I make a point to go here every time I'm in town.

Excellent food for the price, and very prompt service. Highly recommended. Cleanliness is ok, and parking is good.

Skal recently refreshed their menu and it was so tempting that we didn't make it past the "Light…read moreDelights" and "Crunchy Stuff." This secret spot is our go to whenever we cross paths with the Perham and Detroit Lakes area. Per usual, they had a fantastic selection on tap. The atmosphere is casual and the air conditioning is crisp and cool. Now about these new menu items... one thing to keep in mind about Skal standards is that they make everything in house. The cucumber topping, the marinated mozzarella, the mushroom Tartine, and the tomato dill relish are all made on location with love. That means the cucumbers are zesty, the mozzarella is unforgettable, the mushrooms are an umami festival and the tomato relish is a surprise party of flavor!! None of these are your ordinary "stuff on toast" small plates. Again, after tasting all of these, we didn't have room for entrées. So naturally, we went to the crunchy stuff menu and ordered the Minnesota Nachos. They make the potato chips in house daily. It would be easy for them to just buy potato chips, but no, that is not good enough for their patrons. Then, after they make these wonderful potato chips, they pile them up with cheese and goodness and offer them with a side of garlic dill dip (which will want to take a pint of it home with you and the good news is that you can because that is also on the menu.) If flavors and great beer aren't reason enough, come for the great service! The owners and staff here are so great and friendly and tentative to the needs of everyone who stop by. A couple of tips for an amazing visit... Do call ahead to make sure they are open and do come early because they get packed (and you don't want them to run out of those awesome potato chips before you get there.)

It gives off the vibe of a sports bar but also a place to sit and have a casual meal. The fried pickles came out hot and crispy and they were wonderful! Even after sitting and munching on them after 5 minutes the ones that were still in the basket were still warm. The PB+J burger was amazing! It has a nice little kick with every bite you took. It had the perfect amount of spicy that wasn't too overwhelming. The BBQ wings were also very good! Cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of sauce on them. The cheese balls were really good but had too much cheese in each bite you took. The cheese balls were also much larger than what we were thinking they were going to be. Roughly the size of a golf ball. The service was splendid. There was one waiter and bartender working while we ate but you wouldn't have guessed that by how fast our drinks and food came out. Our waiter was very attentive and checked in on us, while waiting on every other table in the building. If you are passing through town this is definitely a place to try out!

We sat outside, as there was a nice view of the lake. Put your elbows on a menu, or you'll burn your arms on the metal table. Ordered maple syrup burger and subbed salad for fries. There wasn't much maple syrup and a tiny bit of bacon. I removed the lower bun also. Beef Burgers are fresh and are 1/3#. Bison and Elk are smaller at 1/4 # and frozen. Service was a little spotty. No check-in after we ate or refills of water. Needed to go inside to pay. They do charge 3% to use a credit card, which is not disclosed anywhere. I paid in cash anyway. There is much better food and value compared to Sandbar. Better views, too.

We ordered different burgers and wings, and they were excellent. The burgers were cooked to order, wings were good, and the fries were excellent. Prices were fair, and bathrooms were clean and updated. BONUS: several gluten-free options including pizza and buns.
