Their premises are large and complicated - I think I got lost twice just trying to find the nurse's consulting room. They were very, very busy when I arrived - the staff at reception were doing a stirling job in trying to get through everyone and keeping people happy, but really there were far more people than they could cope with. Actually getting the vaccination was straightforward enough, but there was a certain amount of red tape, form-filling hoo ha surrounding it, which seemed a bit of a waste of time. They did give me lots of information on the countries we were visiting, however, which was good of them.

ALL staff I spoke to were very very pleasant and helpful. Walking through the corridors I am so impressed with the cleaniness and how diligent the cleaners are. Even the receptionists cleaned their work area. The restaurant was also very clean, and were clearing and cleaning the seating areas regularly. This is a hospital where there are sick people, miserable relatives, and hundreds of people who have been waiting hours and hours to see a consultant / get an x-ray etc. If you're going to volunteer to work in a hospital shop, do it because you want to help out. You don't have to make small talk, but at least smile. Unfortunately, the women running this shop were just downright rude. They were patronizing, had no patience when I couldn't find my purse, and tutted when my brother asked to add something at the last minute. Very disappointing. The rest of the hospital staff were great, though.

I ended up crying in pain in the corridors and the physio told people I was fine! She was more interested in updating the computer, telling me about her holiday and worrying about the next patient than doing any physio!! £45 for 30 mins of humiliation and pain. Went to another Nuffield and they were superb. Will do a write up on them too! If you go, do complain if the treatment is poor. No doubt there are times when the staff at 'Balsall heath Health Centre' are perhaps a little stretched, but on my lastest visit, this was not the case. As my pictures illustrate, the place was practically empty and felt like a restaurant just after lunch so perhaps I missed the rush. The lady behind the counter has been at the surgery for as long as I can remember and I have used this doctor's my whole life, she provides a very professional level of service a no-nonsense type but still manages a smile. In this instance I only had to pick up a repeat prescription for a family member who was out of the country but visiting recently for a check up i was seen quickly and never without a seat for very long. After being being absent from the surgery fro some time I had the luxury of picking my own doctor from a team photo on the wall which I thought was nice. All in Balsall heath Health Centre has a bright clean interior and friendly and professional staff, I can't guarantee it will be so quiet when you visit but the staff are more than capable of handling a busy surgery.

Not so weird now, is it? I have lived in town 6 years now and was chuffed to bits when I finally got a Doctor's surgery open up within walking distance. Located on the downstairs floor of Boots, from the moment you walk in you can sense the efficiency. You MUST book an appointment, however, if you are desperate and there are no appointments available - there is a walk-in clinic right next door. I have been going here for several years now and have only been delayed for an appointment once. The appointment times are pretty convenient, but as you can imagine; it's a very busy surgery. If you don't require an emergency appointment, it's best to call after 10am - if you do, call as early as possible. I've regularly had appointments the same day or the next day. The worst thing is not having a dedicated Doctor. The Doctor's and Nurses have always been great, but it would be nice to have someone you have dealt with before when you revisit. That being said, I've found this surgery to be clean, reliable and accommodating in terms of opening hours.

The staff on reception are very pleasant, although the morning I went to register there was only one so the wait was long. Intake assessment is a few forms and measuring your own height, weight and blood pressure. I gave myself 3 attempts at getting a nice BP measurement as the horrific prospect of knowing my weight after over a year of avoidance had sent my systolic sky-rocketing. I returned the following week to see if I was set up and had been given an NHS number and was told I was good to go. I asked to be set up for the online booking. First of all they gave me the wrong details, so I had to go back. When they gave me the proper ones, my account had the wrong address and they'd misspelled my name. I also had no option to book appointments. They fixed the errors when I emailed but told me to call about the booking. After 15 minutes on hold I was cut off and gave up. Multiple emails went unanswered. Eventually went back on and they reset it or something so could book. At last! It's not too easy to get an appointment if you work. The extended hours don't really seem to translate to appointments at those times. You could definitely be waiting weeks. On arrival for your appointment, you check in using a touch screen which saves time. It gives an estimate of the time to wait but that was actually wildly inaccurate when I went. It claimed things were running to schedule but there was actually a 20 minute wait. I occupied myself by almost getting trapped in their bathroom which has a very dodgy lock and using the Boots free WiFi. Actual consultation was adequate. I kind of missed the pleasant GPs in the random walk-in clinics in Canada or my lovely one at home. This definitely feels more like a walk-in effort. All in all, it's alright. Reception are friendly and it's nice to book online, even if it ends up being for the far distant future.

However, I have needed to rate it 'not good' . Therefore the above is where the good news ends. I have been waiting for 8.5 hours to see a Doctor and we have a new announcement the waiting time is 9.5 hours. The point being we are waiting in the Emergency Department of the hospital. According to the Oxford Dictionary the definition of 'Emergency' is "a medical emergency needing urgent treatment". Therefore, one can only conclude waiting 9.5 hours in an emergency department seems to be the opposite to it's intended function.

After a couple of sessions with a physio that, in all honesty, had about as much impact as a ball of feathers thrown by a kitten it was recommended that I attend the lower limb class (I know, sounds lame). Initially it hurt. It REALLY hurt. Now, after 6 weeks I get barely any knee pain, have much more strength and mobility in my left leg and, for the first time in about 7 years, feel like a (semi) functional human being. And weirdly I've started to enjoy it, I'm even considering joining a gym! So a huge thank you to the guys in the physio department at city hospital. I really appreciate it.

Within 2 hours I had my appointment with Dr Mohammed (as requested) for a day that suited me. My appointment as always was superb, Dr Mohammed always remembers me, gives excellent advice and gives the best (pain free) hydrocortisone injections! I have been with this practice all of my life and seen them grow from Dr Mr and Dr Mrs Mcrann. to the state of the art care they now offer. yes, they get busy, but if needed a doctor will always see you. The reception staff are patient, kind and caring too.

Without wanting to bore you too much with…read moremy medical history (which is rather boring anyway and mainly consists of dodgy throats and the occasional jippy shoulder) I can say that every doctor I've seen here has been absolutely lovely - even when I've got carried away and misdiagnosed myself with something rare and life threatening (the joys of looking up symptoms on Google eh?) and it turns out all I've got is a slight case of tonsillitis. Which kills by the way. It's a big place with regular smoking cessation, diabetes and stress clinics. They have a team of very nice nurses and the reception staff are smiley and kind. They used to play rather annoying muzak but seem to have stopped that in recent years, although the kiddies soft toy play area can sometimes get a bit noisy - not ideal if you are a migraine sufferer. You can always get an appointment - the only downer is the lack of reading material - Golf magazines and leaflets on COPD feature heavily. Hopefully you won't need to use a doctor much, but if you do find yourself looking for one in the Harborne area, then this comes recommended.
