Nice courts. The most room at the courts and upstairs at the club house. Great location.

I agree, the court lights are a bit odd and inconsistent through all the courts.

Location is just north of the clay courts on the grassy hill with some trees for cover and shade on the hill. Most people bring blankets because chairs are really only stable near the sidewalk or at the parking area at the top of the hill. Getting here is tricky if your map doesn't give good walking directions: GPS: 40.79786° N, 73.97636° W Arriving on foot- enter at 100th St, walk down and around a few curvy paths to find the bridge and underpass for the highway and then walk to the water and south from there to the courts. It's also possible to arrive by car in a small parking lot- but parking is limited and shared with tennis players so you'd want to arrive very early. The sound is projected into the hill; so it doesn't really travel too far beyond the picnic area and sometimes the sound team needs a little extra help, but the musicians are passionate and the scenery is lovely, so enjoy the free summer sounds and views!

While I consider the ability to travel a great blessing, I have to admit that certain complications…read moretypically ensue as a result of being away from home. One of those challenges can be how to continue your workout routine (especially as a tennis player). While I don't have specific recommendations for how to alleviate this situation in all cities, I can provide some assistance when it comes to visiting Manhattan in New York City. While searching for some "travel tennis" my record has been mixed. For example, on another trip earlier this year I went 0-fer (despite calling and emailing at least half a dozen Clubs). Well no such drama on this trip. My first (and only) call was to the Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club. Their staff was friendly on the phone (and in person) and they did an outstanding job of arranging a Singles match for me (at my ability level) with a member who was also warm and welcoming. Their 5 indoor courts are well maintained and offer year-round opportunities to play. Quite frankly, when considering all of the times that I've attempted to play "travel tennis", I've never encountered a friendlier, more welcoming, or more helpful staff. I merely posed the innocuous question of, "Are there any opportunities to play at your Club while traveling, even though I'm not a member?" I was then so inundated with the options provided to me that I literally needed to take written notes. Sadly, if someone had posed the same question to my tennis club in San Diego the would have been slammed so quickly in their face that it would have immediately broken their ! The costs associated with your choice of play here are not insignificant, but a traditional membership is not required. The locker rooms are also well maintained and the Club was only about a 10 minute walk from our hotel in Time's Square. And that's...Henry's Take. #manhattantennis

I go to the Chelsea location, which is just outside of a school in the schoolyard. Often i bring my 8 year old son on days where Bryn is able to have a second pro there to do a kids group lesson. I love the classes to the point where it has become addictive for me. I go running during the week and i take Bryn's classes on saturdays and sundays to get my weekend workouts in. Bryn starts off group classes with drills for the first 10 minutes where we build up a good sweat while also hitting forehands and backhands rotating through the group, which is great for building muscle memory on your tennis strokes through repetitive motion. Then we spend the rest of the hour playing points, usually in a king/queen of the court format, which can be either laid back or quite competitive, depending on the particular group for that hour. Bryn is a lot of fun to have classes with, whether he's joking around or whether he's in drill instructor mode. A lot of people feel the same as I do, as I see many of the same faces week after week, but there are also always a lot of new people joining. Considering what it costs to access tennis courts in this city, Bryn's classes are a great deal and i get a great workout. Before I started with Bryn last year, i hadn't picked up a racket since my son was born 7 years prior. But in the past year at Bryn's classes I've gotten well back to my earlier form, and i feel in the best shape of my life.

He carefully curates the clinic composition to provide a robust and rigorous experience for all skill levels ... the seasoned players play at their level, beginners and intermediate players play at their level. This is helpful so that everyone gets the playing time and learning experience that helps them grow and is worthwhile. An important note: you will run and move ... hitting and running are essential fundamentals of a tennis game and Bryn and his team drill this. My lessons are a core component of my week, and I leave every lesson sweat-drenched and adrenaline-fueled, with an ever-expanding skill set ... and supportive clinic-mates confirming the next lesson.
