We have been bringing our chickens to Bird & Pet for years and have always had a positive experience. They always take time to answer questions during our visits, and we are always given space and time to decide on a treatment plan when there are tough decisions to be made. With chickens, sometimes there is only so much you can do, and they are always honest with best course of action when euthanasia is the more humane option. They also mention the UC Davis euthanasia and testing for poultry because it as a cheaper option then they can offer. Anytime a vet has less experience with birds, they consult with the other vets in the practice. We also like the ability to schedule online. And if we ever need to leave a voice mail, the office staff always gets back to us. Vet care is expensive, and a lot of the negative reviews seem to be people thinking they should not have to pay so much or get priority service over others. Pets are expensive, other people's pets are special to their owners, so take the negative reviews with a grain-of-salt. We will continue to come her for bird care. read more

Main front staff lady is rude to clients and other staff. Their online scheduling does not direct you to call for a technician appointment. Although they accommodated the change, she was nasty about it. The other front staff, although much nicer, is not properly trained, causing issues with credit card charges. Dr. Anger was very nice and noted in the records that she did specific checks on our bunnies well bunny exam when in fact she did not actually check everything she noted in their records. I was there during the entirety of the exams and just received their full records that indicate she did checks she did not do. I highly suggest you go to a different vet for your house rabbit's care. read more

Been going to this place for years because it's extremely difficult to find a vet that also treats birds or exotics. The vets have all been great even though a few of them have left but each time I end up with a great vet. It takes me an hour so to get to Roseville but I know that my Peach Front Conure will get the best care. I also brought in a stray cat that I knew was sick and she had to be euthanized but she had a few great months with me. Most of the staff at the front are pretty good but Diana is absolutely the greatest. Always smiling and with a positive attitude. She's the type of an employee that is very valuable to an organization and to the customers. Had one though that was curt and my temper can flare when someone is rude because I, unfortunately, will also engage so let's say I appreciate someone like Diana. read more

My beardie joy was not eating properly, dehydrated and loose stool. Couldn't fine any exotic vet here I'm sac and finally found the birds and pet clinic. They were friendly and we were greeted upon arrival. Found out my beardie had a rroat infection but not sure if it respiratory or not cus his enclosure are at the right temp and humidity. Overall he got help and is gaining his weight back, plus his appetite. read more

I work with animals, professionally, and have veterinary clinics all up and down California and Oregon that I go to depending on specialty. I also worked in veterinary medicine for decades. Vet care and procedure is something I am very familiar with. I have never been treated so disrespectfully at any clinic I've ever gone to. My duck was bitten by a dog and my normal Bird Vet couldn't see her until the next day. The duck wasn't broken, she was walking, eating drinking, etc. but I wanted pain medication and to get ahead of any infection while I waited for our normal vet . So I took her to this clinic to get pain meds and antibiotics to tie her over. This Vet told me that if I took her home on antibiotics and pain medication only she was obligated to call animal control and report me for lack of care. I could either euthanize her for $350 or spend $1700 on putting her under anesthesia for them to investigate her wound. Talk about a money grab. You can either do what they want you to do for your pet or risk being reported to animal control and have that headache to deal with. Good business model. I am definitely reporting this veterinarian and clinic for coercion and attempting to force me to agree on procedures under duress. Edit: Let me reiterate. I was told if I didn't choose One of the Two options you demanded I choose from you were ethically bound to call animal control for lack of care. Pain medication and antibiotics is medical management and not lack of care. You were unprofessional and overstepped. Also let me remind you ducks are livestock and not bound under the same care laws as companion animals. I could have un alived my duck with my own hands in your exam room and I would have been within my legal right. But I was there, spending over $250 getting veterinary care for you to threaten me with animal control. Your schemes of padding your P&L is disgusting. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! The fees were marked up over 50%, and in some cases over 70%, from what the original cost was! Yes, I am aware of the wholesale prices and the blatant mark ups at this clinic were abhorrent. It was obvious that this clinic cares more about making money than providing affordable health care for animals. Even the girl at the front desk was spewing false information to try to force us to pay for services that are 100% not needed and then lied to my face when I questioned her about it! read more

Terrible service. Being upfront I never made it to this place. After attempting to reach someone on a Friday afternoon for 2 hours I gave up. Twice someone picked up the phone then placed me on hold without saying a word. Three other times I sat on hold for 10 plus minutes before hanging up and trying again 15mins later. I was attempting to verify if they carried a specific product prior to driving 30 minutes to the location. My family and I brought in our sulcata tortoise and we did not have a very good experience. The Dr kept mentioning brumation (basically hibernation for reptiles) about our tortoise, but sulcatas do not brumate. They have the ability to, but don't in the wild, and will not when kept at proper temp at home. We told them we do not let the enclosure get cold, and they kept circling back to brumation, so we stopped correcting them. This was a major red flag for us. They took blood from our tortoise, mentioned they got lymph in the sample, which isn't good, but sent it out anyway for analysis. When we got the results back from analysis it said there was too much lymph in the sample to ascertain anything. So we got charged a bunch of money to send out a bad sample that was otherwise useless. Overall from a customer service standpoint they were ok, but we cannot bring our tortoise back here. They botched the blood draw and didn't know basic knowledge about our species. Please don't see animals and offer services unless you can do so properly. read more

This was one of the 2 clinics that we were recommended by GX3 Reptiles to bring our sick tortoise here. The first one we called was booked till February but we were so glad that this one was open. We were able to bring our tortoise on the same day we called to get it checked. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. We were quickly helped. I feel that they are knowledgeable about their reptiles. I forgot the vet tech's and vet's name but they both was very informative. I love seeing Dr. Anger and Dr. Youngblood for my three handsome boys (domestic rats). They are always well taken care of. I know I can always call early for an urgent appointment and there's lots of availability for follow up care appointment's too. I feel the doctors are both knowledgeable and compassionate not just for the animal but for the owners as well. The vet techs are so kind and fun as well. I love Austin! Worst clinic ever. All they care about is scamming you for the money. I called a week in advance to see if they have the RHDV2 vaccine for rabbits and was told by them that they do and they set me up with an appointment for it. They also told me that my rabbit would have to do a wellness exam due to being a new patient which costs $100.00 before he can get the vaccine which costs another $40-$50. Which is fine. They also had me do a $50.00 deposit first. The night before the appointment, they called to confirm that I was going to come for sure. And I told them that I'm coming for the vaccine and I asked again whether they have it or not and they said "yes". I showed up for the appointment and they told me that they don't have the vaccine and that I should do the wellness exam and pay first then come back a few days later to get the vaccine. I drove 35 miles to this clinic and this is how they would treat customers. I asked for the reimbursement of the $50.00, they told me that they would make an exceptional this time, making it sound like it's my fault. Very rude and unprofessional. I would advise if anyone cares about their pets, please think dearly before taking them to this clinic. read more

Looks good on yelp for you to say "Let's talk..." but had no desire to do that when I was in the clinic in person. Yes...you gave a classroom discount, but sure made your money back with your ridiculous late fee and then some. I drove my pet 45 minutes to get there and should have just walked out but had a suffering animal to think about. I even called to say there was an accident on the freeway but I am right around the corner. Try explaining your late fee when you explain your $50 appointment hold charge (yes later applied to the service.) I hope that $38 dollar late fee was worth the future business and the one star reviews and the report to the better business bureau! I took my bunny here for his checkup. I tried calling several other vets. My regular vet was booked out months. Most only offered nail trimming. I was so happy when I found this place for my "exotic" pet. The staff was very nice. I felt anxious about taking my bunny to a new vet. Bunny was pretty calm which put me at ease. BEWARE!!! I understand that bird and pet clinic offers services to some types of pets that others places don't.... But DOG owners DO NOT GO HERE!! Find another vet, one that is all inclusive and can do surgeries. I had been taking my dog here for over a year with no real problems. Until recently, we visited because my dog had been limping. They sedated him to "take an X-ray" (though I'm now questioning what they even took an X-ray of) $2000 later they basically tell me sorry can't help you LOL and told me to find a surgery center. I won't make this post about how great my new vet/surgery center is but during a consult the vet was trying to find ways she can save me money (unlike bird and pet clinic) and says we should be able to use the X-rays they took and the blood work they did! LOL again!!! Bird and pet clinic didn't even get the portion of the leg in the X-ray that needs surgery!! Also didn't do any blood work. Charged me $2000 to send me somewhere else and did a crappy job at that. The TPLO surgery is going to be $5000+ and had I gone to my new vet to begin with, I might have saved some money. Just watch out, if you think an estimate is high in price.. it is probably because it is high in price!! ALSO - I have a Lab so we are in and out of ear infections. As expected. In December we visited bird and pet clinic for an ear infection.. we were sent home with a $300 bill and leave-in medicine they put in his ear. 30 days later NO IMPROVEMENT. When I called to make another appointment for my dog's ear I questioned what I really paid for back in December and was met with some crap about what works for some doesn't work for others. I will say the ear was included in the $2000 bill mentioned above but shouldn't they have fixed it the first time??! To wrap this up, we weren't ever met with kindness at the front desk. Doctor Anger was great as always!! The vet tech however was horrible. The entire time she constantly kept trying to push vaccines I didn't want. Even after saying no-thank you multiple times, and giving reasons as to why I'd prefer not to. She went as far to question my reasons rudely. Also a friendly heads up.....when it comes to heart worm preventatives and testing they charge 2x more than other vets around. So just know you can get that treatment cheaper else where. This 5 star rating is for Dr. Pita. I was just notified that she is no longer at the clinic and I am so heartbroken. She cared for my dogs like they were her own. I lost my soul dog Bella in June 2023 to cancer and then a month after that my other dog Brodie was diagnosed with Mast Cell tumor. Dr. Pita did the surgery on him and was able to get clean margins and he is doing really well now. When Bella was dying she would check in on me, promptly return my calls when I had questions or concerns or just needed someone to talk to. The last night of Bella's life she stayed on the phone with me for over 30 minutes comforting me and reassuring me I was doing the right thing. The clinic was already closed when she made that call and talked to me with such empathy. It's going to be nearly impossible for me to find another vet like her but I guess I'm going to have to try. I hope I am able to find out where she went and that its local. read more

Our beardie wasn't eating and she was struggling to use the bathroom, it appeared as if she constipated. Because she was refusing food and all other remedies for helping constipation didn't work, we brought her here. They took her in and found she had eaten a suction cup from her tanks temperature gauge! They saved me a lot of money because they were able to just pull it out versus surgery. They did provide antibiotics, an X-ray and blood work to make sure there wasn't any infection in her intestines from the cup. Only reason for the 4 stars is I never received a phone call back after the blood work came in to let me know everything was ok. But overall, I was happy with the service. read more

My bird has been a patient here for over a year since I moved to Roseville. The option of doing curbside pick-up and going inside with your pet(s) makes no sense. The last two times I have been in, they took my bird to the back room to do her beak and nail trimmings and then they come back to tell me they cut her nails too short, so she was bleeding and to watch for infections. The last visit was the most horrific MALPRACTICE I have ever seen. What is the point of scheduling an appointment ahead of time and having to wait two weeks for them to not listen. My bird is full flight and has been for the last 20 years, I have only taken her to get her beak and nail trimmings and she typically sees the same vet and to find out they cilpped her wings this time. For what reason? I always make sure to tell them, no wings and that she is full flight. The vet put the blame on the technician and then on top of that they wanted to bill me, unbelievable. This is a terrible clinic, for the safety of your pets, please seek another clinic. read more

I won't go into detail about their lack of knowledge and expertise in dealing with my sick canary. A serious infection had caused his leg to swell and the metal leg band was cutting through the skin creating an even more severe problem. The swelling was making it impossible for him to stand or perch on it. I followed their instructions, bathing and medicating his foot daily but in the following weeks the swelling only grew worse. Looking for a second opinion I found an 'avian specialty' practice in Sacramento. The doctor immediately diagnosed the problem; leg band must come off IMMEDIATELY if the bird was to survive. I won't bother to elaborate the many other reasons why I would not, in good conscious, recommend The Bird and Pet Clinic to anyone needing specialty avian care or advice for their pet. read more

Idk if i can say enough nice things about this place! They took care of all my rats (4) and I've never had a bad experience. I've tried a few other vets since I've moved farther away and they were "okay" so when my kitten got sick i trusted the bird and pet clinic to take the upmost care of her. The people working the front desk are always so kind (you don't get that often when calling into a vet clinic) and when you come in they speak to you like you've been friends for years. The place is very clean and the vets always lay out options for you and you are provided pricing before any work is done. They are transparent and you can tell they love what they do. Deeply regretful that I brought my pet bunny here, because less than 24 hours after her visit, she was DEAD from seizures (probably caused by the medications they gave her). She had stopped eating so thinking it was GI stasis, I found this place and brought her in. However, the X-Ray they took revealed nothing, the rabbit vet here acted as if nothing else could be done, and no other services or follow-up care was recommended. Based on my prior experiences with other rabbit vets, it really did not seem like a complete check-up -- basically, the message was "if it's not this issue (GI stasis, which is common in rabbits), we can't help you." She did suggest blood work (which would have cost $300), but the results would take ~2 days to come back -- and within 24 hours of her visit here, my bunny began suffering from seizures of increasing severity and died shortly thereafter. I honestly think if I had brought her elsewhere she would still be alive -- I found out after that one of the medications they prescribed her (buprenorphine extended release, a kind of opioid) has been known to cause neurological/adverse effects in rabbits. And without knowing exactly what was wrong with my bunny, I think more testing/examination should have been done INSTEAD of 3 different medications, which ultimately seemed to make things worse. In all my years of being a rabbit owner and taking rabbits to vets, I've never felt so devastated by the quality of care (or lack thereof, rather). The only person here who really seemed to care was the veterinary tech on staff at the time. So almost $600 later and with my little bunny dead, I could not in good faith recommend this clinic to anyone. I really wish I brought her to All About Pets in Folsom instead. read more

I would never drive 1 hour each way and build a repore with a vet knowing full well my bird was just becoming trusting of me after previous owner abuse, hated getting out of its cage at times, to have it become familiar with a vet IFFF that vet had not told me "no worries we totally undertand the psyche of birds and we get that there are times that appointments may start late no worries".... The vet and tech were both patient and thorough with their examinations. I appreciated the transparency of the prices. Not only did they bath to take their time and thoroughly discuss cowboys physical health, but also gave suggestions on his mental health as well! After calling several vets that see hamsters only to be discouraged by month long waits for appointments and no one willing to squeeze me in for our mini emergency (there are no ER vets for hamsters btw), Bird & Pet Clinic SAVED the day. They got me in same day for an appointment, got my hammy all taken care of AND they even called about a week later to check on his status. The vet who saw him talked to me for a good 15 minutes about my hamster's somewhat unique case and was very detailed in explaining what was going on, it was clear he was passionate about his work and knowledgeable. I liked that they offered curb side still, but you could go in if you wanted to. I had such a great experience with them I am probably going to switch my dog to them too.
