And just what was needed to warm me up. The latte was also very good. I chatted with the owner a bit. They have been open for about 5 years. 30 years ago when I was growing up jn the area, such a nice little Cafe would have been impossible to find. But Red Deer downtown has really become nice and this place is part of that improvement

The Bistro is a bit easy to miss - it has a modest storefront, and looks a bit dark from the outside. When you walk inside though, the business has a nice cozy feeling: wooden chairs and leather accented tables, as well as big comfy lounge chairs and 2-person booths, highlighted by local artwork on the walls. It's a counter-service affair, and you can order coffee and espresso drinks, milkshakes and floats, plus an assortment of soups, sandwiches, salads, sweets and ice cream. They also do a breakfast first thing I the morning for the early risers and office crowd. The staff is always super friendly, and quick to clean a table or help where they can. Basically everything is made-to-order, so you're going to get fresh food. An average lunch typically runs me about $10, a bit more if I opt for a latte instead of a pop, so the value is great too. This is definitely a place to check out if you'd like a change of pace from the fast food and pricey restaurants otherwise nearby. I understand they also do catering and they're pretty accommodating.

I'm in Red Deer for a couple of hours so for lunch I consulted Yelp. Café Mellenium was not far so…read morethat's where we went. This café is downtown so we had to use the meters. After empting our pockets of change it gave us 48 minutes. Neither of us were ready for anything big so we both had soup and a muffin with coffee. They had four kinds of soup so I ordered cheddar broccoli. It was good, not from a can but not exceptional either. Bassically it's what we were looking for. The café offered some unique muffins which were satisfying. Our coffees were fine, although mine could have been a bit warmer than it was. The service was very friendly so I think they were also the owners. The café is located in the common area of the building which presumably is for a variety of offices. There were people coming and going like you would see at a shopping mall so that might prove distracting for people studying or working but it was very quiet while we were here. Will I come back? Certainly if I'm near the downtown and looking for a light lunch. Otherwise Red Deer is a large city now so there are many other places to explore. Tip: the washrooms are up the escalators and you need a code for the doors so ask for it at the café.

I paid $5 for a drink at another place. That $5 got me a whole meal here. Their food is delicious and always ready to go, no wait times. Service is quick and friendly.

Who knew Red Deer was so hipster? I randomly stumbled upon Wild Brew Co on Insta and have been…read morewanting to check them out since that lucky discovery. Finally made it happen on a Saturday morning trip out to Red Deer. If you haven't heard of Wild Brewing, they specialize in kombucha. 6 flavours on tap and nitro coffee from Blackbird Cold Brew (from Calgary). In case you've been living under a rock and don't know what kombucha is, it has many, many health benefits! Tasty too. The inside is small but they do have one small table for two and a picnic table outside to sit at. Love the garage sliding door and the cargo bike! The branding/logo is on point. Slick, sharp minimalistic design. Since it was our first time, we wanted to sample all their options. A couple other people that dropped in were getting their growlers replenished. Their prices are pretty reasonable and in line with other kombucha places I've visited recently. $5.00 for a 12oz cup and $10.00 to fill a growler (1L). - Flight ($5.25 for 6) - they don't have anything fancy for their flights but we ain't too picky. They come in cute 50ml sized beakers. Takes me back to chemistry class. I thought all of the flavours were great but Breezy and I mutually agreed our favourite was the peach ginger. Blueberry mint was a close second. Love it! Hope Wild Brewing continues to expand to (you can get refills at Town Square Brewing Co in Edmonton, Raw Eatery & Market in Calgary and Float Now in Saskatoon to name a few). Finally a reason to stop in Red Deer.
