Big fan of Birdy's! Birdy's is a dive bar under under the J / M train tracks, so it feels like a hidden gem hiding in plain sight. Inside they have booths, arcade games, and a Photo Booth, and outside they have 10 or so picnic tables. Service is pretty standard, but the best part is their happy hour (till 9pm). $2 off everything, so you can get a Bud Light and a Frozen Margarita for $11. Unheard of these days. Unfortunate event... I'd like to state, before I start that Birdy's is one of the only two bars I go to in my neighborhood. The other being Ornithology. And I like it very much! So much, that I always bring friends and recommend it to people. I always had a pleasant time every time I've been there, except last night. I got to the bar around 2am, after a long day of work, driving around And something unfortunate happen. I had come in for only one drink. So, I sat at the bar and ordered a Hendrick's martini. The Asian lady that served me was very nice and spot on on my dirty martini. I loved it!! I had a sip and starting scrolling on my phone catching up with work stuff and all. Had another two sips and all of a sudden I Feel someone tapping on my arm an saying "You can't do that here!". I believe the lady said he's name is Ryan, blond hair, brown beard. I looked up. Ok, what do you mean? Do what?, I asked. He said "sleep on the bar.". I was like what do you mean? I'm not sleeping on the bar. I'm looking at my phone! He thought, looking from the other end of the bar, that I was asleep. Just because I had my hand on my head and I was looking down Scrolling my phone on my lap. I was puzzled. The bartender (I'm not writing her name, because I don't want to misspell it.) who served me came over and told Ryan "oh, he's good! I just served him." I had had three sips of my martini and this guy was trying to say that I was drunk and sleep at the bar. Anyway, we exchanged a couple more words and looked at each other and I resumed to what I was doing. When I reached for my drink, it wasn't there. So, I asked the bar-back that was picking up the glasses if it was him who'd picked my drink. He said "no". Then, I asked the Asian bartender. She also said "no". Then I asked her to ask Ryan if he had taken my drink. She came back but didn't say anything. So I said, I'm really sorry, but I need to another small drink. I had only three sips of my drink and someone threw it out. After all, it cost me $18 with tip. So, I asked her, to give me justa small beer. Cause I needed to go soon. I had a sip and went finish what I was doing. All of a sudden, this guy appears again and I asked him, why did you throw my drink out? Without saying anything, he grabs the beer and toss it out in the sink. I was like, what are you doing, man? At this point, I really don't know what's going on. I said to him I'm sorry, but I'm confuse. What's going on here? What are you doing? Why are you throwing my drinks? Then, he says "not today!... It's on me!" and some other stuff so low that I had to ask him to repeat, because I could barely hear. He said something like, I know you know everything! I was like, "know everything?". What do you mean? What are you talking about? I don't understand what you mean. I was like, dude you know me. You served me many times. I've been coming here for 10 years. I'm completely lost. He said again "not today". Then it was already almost 3am. Most of my relaxing and winning down time was wasted on this exchange. I had to go. I was tired. So I said to him, alright, you gotta give me either another drink or my money back, then I go. I spent $20 on my drink, had three sips and you thew it out and the beer that the lady poured me Later. He turned around, took $20 outta the register and put on the bar. I said thank you, grabbed the money and left. All I wanted was to have a dirty martini while I scrolled through my phone. I must say the whole exchange was civil. I don't remember him saying explicitly that I had to leave, but tossing my two drinks was enough. Honestly, I still don't know why he did that. Anyways, As I walked out, I ran into the bartender that served me earlier. So I asked her what had just happened, why did he do that and if he was drunk or something, cause I still didn't know what just happened. She said it had been a long day and all. I said, yeah, but he can't take that on me or his costumers. 'm sorry! I thanked her and left. I must say, this was the most bizarre experience I've had. I still don't know what happened. In over 20 years working behind bars and serving tables. I never seen anyone sober being kicked outta bar beca use the bartender thought he was drunk and sleeping. Its comical. Because he didn't make any sense and never told me what he was doing that for. It was the strangest thing... I find it sad, because I like the place. I go there more for the music and the vibe. Anyway, I'll probably reach out to the manager this week. Don't get me wrong. I still recommend the place. Just be aware that things like this can happen. read more

Birdy's was a really cute spot. When you walk in you kind feel like your in a neighborhood bar you see on TV. It's giving comedy sitcom and I was here for it. Stayed for a short while, my friend put down a card and they had a $20 limit so I had to help him out there. The bar was making me feel very nostalgic so I had a shirley temple then a blue hawaiian ... basically anything that had an umbrella in was for me. the wait time did take a while, there weren't a lot of people when we arrived but the bartender was taking his time. A couple of ginger ales and a beer later, the tab was only $25! Right up my alley. We stayed close to the bar but in the back they had additional seating with arcade games as well. This is the dive bar of all dive bars. The bar has a very "lived in" vibe with a decorated bar back with photos and knick knacks, etc. There are also arcade games in the very back of the bar near the restrooms. I didn't play any of the games, but saw a few people enjoying them! On the weekends, they have a happy hour that starts at 3pm and ends at 9pm. Even though we got our order in seconds after it turned 9, our drinks were still counted as happy hour which was great! I started off with their frozen daiquiri. It sneaks up on you and even though you can't taste the alcohol, you definitely start feeling it pretty soon afterwards. The drinks here were pretty solid and even though I don't remember the other things I ordered (!!), the vibe was super chill and I liked it. Diving in Brooklyn Just a quick rant, first. There is NO reason for a bar or a restaurant that serves alcohol to be cash only in 2016. Like, who still carries cash nowadays? Birdy's, the name does not begin to describe what lies behind the corner door in Bushwick. This new bar staple is right by the J/M Myrtle/Broadway stop. The bar is your standard ode to the seventies bars. The bar has a Gene Simmons doll at the bar, pinball machines, glowing horse light, fussball table, Christmas lights and a bull skull. Birdy's is huge, a great place to keep in mind for large groups. There is a front bar with booth, then some funny two person table setting and then the large back room with the games. People took it upon themselves to christen the two tops for their spring fever! Lots of suck face. The music last night was just what I wanted and have forgotten about. They were playing Buzzcocks and Sham69. There's also a pretty good beer selection. They even had my favorite Bell's Two Hearted IPA. My friend called a cab at the end. It was going to be eight minutes..hmm not enough time for a beer and two much time for a shot. We got one cider and the bartender split it for us into two vintage chalices. Nice! Fun bar in Bushwick! I went here because I wanted to try out the vintage photobooth in the back and was not disappointed! They also have pinball machines. I went on a Thursday night around 1030pm and it wasn't too crowded but there were a few people here and there. The bar is pretty big and extends to the back. I was a regular at this place for three years.. for whatever reasons, in the last year things have become very unsafe for women. 3/4 of the women I befriended while being a regular here stopped coming due to instances of SH, SA, and worse. This place has began to harbor and foster a very unsafe environment for both POC & women.... through the last year I've heard too many heartbreaking stories of young women being hurt here or after a night here. So many other places within walking distance do so much better at ensuring the safety of their customers. This place has just become bad news within the last year or so. read more

I recently moved to Brooklyn and was looking for a local bar when I found Birdy's. You walk in to a dimly lit room with low ceilings, bar on the left, seating on the right. There's not much room to navigate if the place is packed. If you keep walking back through the bar you'll find more seating, foosball tables, photo booth and bathrooms. The bathrooms are covered in graffiti, which gives it the grungy Brooklyn vibe. I couldn't help but snap a couple pictures, though the graffiti was so thick there was no mirror, which I loved. Keeps the line moving! I think the drinks are the best part about this bar. The Long Islands taste great. The frozen drinks are even better ! They have a line of typical drinks made frozen, like margaritas, frozen whiskey sours and frozen Moscow mules. All the drinks are reasonably priced and they have a late night menu for those drunk nights you just probably shouldn't be cooking. I spent 8 dollars on my frozen drink. An alcoholic beverage under $10 is a steal in my book! My least favorite part about this bar is the staff, as I've been to Birdy's on several occasions I have had an array of experiences. You never have to wait long before someone acknowledges that you've sat down or are waiting. The bartenders either have a stick up their ass or are just always rude because management doesn't tell them being kind to patrons is part of the experience. This is the sole reason I am giving Birdy's a 3/5 rating. I recently had a unpleasant encounter with a bouncer at Birdy's. I am pleased to say that the owner Andy reached out to me and kindly consoled me that this was not something that would be tolerated at Birdy's. I really respect the concern and quick response on Yelp. I have decided to change my review because of her kindness. Birdy's does have an array of fun activities outside of drinking. Such as, arcade games, food ball and a photo booth. Which is all super fun and extremely competitive when intoxicated. The bathrooms are gender neutral and their are two of them. read more

With the decor of an escape room and the lighting of a French brothel, Birdy's is the essence of Bushwick distilled into a bar. Bathrooms are the way I like it, plastered with the maniacal scribblings of drunk hipsters and stickers of bands that are still looking for a bassist. This back room is outfitted with a photo booth that will gaslight you into thinking it's not taking a picture (hint: it is). Back there you can also find pinball machines that are the place where you will get negged by a drunk bro who says he's from England but has an American accent (this may be a 1 time thing). The Gorgar machine (pictured below) is a sexual experience and must be played at least once (warning: you will have a wet dream about this ripped demon). Finally, the foosball table has a few injured players but still worth a spin or two of the ol' sticks. Overall, Birdy's is as comforting as an arm over your shoulder from an old friend telling you "come sit and relax, everything will be alright". read more

A favorite bar but not a favorite of staff. The current blonde with the tattoos there, slim frame, wasn't all that great with service. I work in the industry and I know poor service. I've always tipped handsomely towards people in the service industry. But this bar tender was not up to standard. I kept trying to get her attention on a slow happy hour and she was very displeasing. 10/10 would NOT recommend. I love this bar and have always come here through my harder times in life. Her exact words were "well, you shouldn't come to a bar if you can't afford it" I paid my entire bill, I even tried to accommodate her. All I had to spare was a single but if you work at a job that solely survives on tips alone, maybe not tip-shame your customers. I was going to give her the $20 in my bag but that comment alone bumped her down to $1. She didn't even offer me a pen inside when I needed to sign. Come here if you're looking for a bar that looks and feels like it never left the 70s. I came here to meet a drink for Happy Hour on a Thursday but will definitely be returning for a night out. Their Happy Hour is bomb with $2 off of their already cheap drinks. I got 2 cocktails for $5 each and they were pretty generous pours. They have a decent menu of 70s style cocktails usually for $7 each. Beers seemed to range from $3-6 and wines from $8-9. **NOTE: Birdy's is cash only** It was nice out so we sat at a small table just outside but inside there are really comfy booths and lots of bar seating. When it got chilly we went to the back where we were met with a couple of pool tables but we went for the old school pinball machines instead. Birdy's doesn't have a kitchen but, committing to the 70's aesthetic, if you ask the bartender they'll give you a binder full of take out menus. No grub hub required. read more
