You'll find a pretty normie crowd here considering it's in the heart of East Williamsburg, but I guess normie vibes draw normie patrons. This is a good thing to most people. It's annoying that they're cash only-- I really never have cash on me and while they do have an ATM I would personally not choose to go to this bar were it not for friends choosing it. Beers are in the standard $6-$8 range. My group managed to get some action on the dartboard, which made being here infinitely more interesting. It's a little bit hipster but it's a cool dive bar in bushwick. Prices are pretty steep I'd say for a Brooklyn dive. Your typical $7-8 beers. Some canned beer is a bit cheaper than the taps. A large range of cocktails on the other side of the menu (most tequila based). You can bring food in which is always a nice perk. Things I enjoy: The theme. Like ducks are great. I love a good rubber ducky. This bar is not shy of that. I like the spiral staircase that leads to where? I may never know. I like that there are two unisex singular bathrooms on opposing sides of the bar. I don't like that one is almost directly in front of a dart board. Act fast. Things I'm not crazy about: There's a weird attitude here. There's a bouncer that actually will card you if you're even pushing 40 and that's always an uncomfortable feeling to me with dive bars in the middle of nowhere. The bartenders are hit and miss. My friend got yelled at before I showed up at the bar and I guess she 'cut him off' for weaving on his way to the bathroom. Which I was fully expecting him to be a basketcase when I showed up but he was surprisingly almost sober. He just weaves maybe when he has to pee? Once I showed up they refused to service me for nearly 15-20 minutes even though I had cash in my hand to get myself a drink. Anyway, I think he is mildly attached to the bar with coming here after band practice from past years and presently. Love this place! A friend took me here for the first time on a Wednesday night, great vibes. There was a good amount of people here for a weekday night as well. Very cozy, vintage, laid-back decor. Feels like you're kicking it at your friend's place, and the drinks are great and affordable. Bartenders are super chill, friendly, and really quick with getting drinks to you, as well as checking in on how you're doing. It lead me right to duckduck's door and from outside you could hear the old skool hip-hop was on and poppin'. Once inside I thought the bartender was offering me a British sex act when he recommended a Hot Toddy, which he didn't bother explaining over the music. Rony Mō, "Do you know WTF a Taut Hottie is?" Handmade Clothes Wearing, Lesbian For A Year, Hipster Friend, "I don't know but it sounds like it involves poo." It's actually a comforting concoction of whiskey + black tea + honey + lemon garnished with star anise and a sliver of cinnamon. Soon enough I was starting to feel the thermogenic properties of the drink, and had to cool off with a Manchester Mule dry gin + ginger beer + lime + cucumber. I was essentially trying to ice bath and hot tub to my organs like athletes do post-game. I was cold again so I had the Egg Nog. Now a word of caution about this usually light libation. I ask my now "friendly" bartender about the bathroom, because I see people popping in and out of hidden doors like Robert Angier in The Prestige. He points to the staircase in the center of the room, but I can see it's a decorative one that leads nowhere. We exchange forced smiles. Just then I see a guy suffering from the worst case of the sniffles I've ever seen, and wondered if things if the cause was coming out of his nose or up it. Either way both of those things are usually done in the restroom. Ladies it'll take quite a few travel sized baby wipes before the toilet is sanitized. Gentlemen, good luck in there. Heroin abusers, you'll feel right at home. So what's not to like about the Duckie besides the bathroom? It's just a few short blocks from the train and you can get Schmidt-faced for cheap. A kind of gross cash only neighborhood bar. As a woman, I don't go there by myself because dudes will talk to me. Not even trying to toot my own horn, but it just is that kind of place. I like going here while it's still sunny outside because if the weather is nice, the staff will open the huge windows and then it's like you're sitting in a covered patio which is nice. A little scared I might get scabies from the fabric couches though. I never get the fancy cocktails. I usually stick to simple drinks here. Happy Hour is two drinks for $6 but you have to use them for yourself--you get a wooden token. You can't buy yourself one drink and give your friend the other with the happy hour deal. Everyone has to get their own 2-for-1 special. I've had one bartender tell me I can use the token at a later date and another not accept the token so it feels a little scammy unless you drink both drinks back to back to ensure you get your money's worth. On the weekend nights it gets pretty crowded so I don't usually go then. However, a date and I once went in at like 3am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning and it was the perfect amount of people if you don't count the guy that definitely seemed to be doing drugs in the bathroom or the guy outside the window who was harassing me. I've also seen a fight break out outside and security had to break it up. Oh and years ago my friend was actually electrocuted by some holiday lights they had hanging inside. this was one of my absolute favorite bars until i encountered a really rude bar tender (shorter woman with long black hair). My friend and i sat in with our food because it was raining. We were about to order drinks before she passive aggressively demanded us to order something rudely. I understand the issue; however, this was just an extremely rude way to approach it. So i obliged anyways and ordered a drink. I then asked "Sorry but were we supposed to order sooner" then she started arguing about how we didn't order anything because we were trying to eat our dinner there, implying we were freeloading (after i ordered a drink) and how i didn't tip, which i was about to until that really rude response. I work in the service industry so i understand; however, how she presented the situation and how she reacted was awful. (i'm also just a college kid and she is most definitely a full grown woman). She thought i was trying to underpay or to freeload when I was just visiting and trying to relax after an extremely heavy rain (the bar was empty). She kept arguing and demanded i finished my drink (i know this sounds made up and so silly but it quite literally happened). She told the bodyguard and even he was confused. I would never come back again not because of the overall bar but because the bartender was very hostile and rude for no reason. I've been exploring more of the area (due to a couple of Yelpers who live nearby). This neighborhood has some good spots to hangout at. This is definitely one of the good ones. A group of us all went here after a long day. It's always good to unwind, sit back relax and knock back a few. Upon entering this place you will notice that it's a bit dark. You will also see that there are plenty of places to sit. DO look at the church pews, school desks and retro furniture which doesn't match. It's AWESOME! I want to come back here in the daytime and do a photo shoot. The drinks here are pretty cheap. You can get a nice cold pint for about $6. For those of you who are on a budget, they do have cold cans of Schmidt for $2... Yes, that wasn't a typo. You can definitely have a good time here. This is an awesome place to hangout with friends. This is the perfect neighborhood bar - it's unpretentious, super cheap and the owners, Dave and Jenny, (whom I affectionately refer to as Duck Duck Dave and Jennyface) are amazing! The decor is relaxed and the tiny space is surprisingly conducive to live performances of local bands/singer songwriters. Standout drink special is definitely the Schmidt Face which consists of a shot of whatever whiskey they feel like rocking that day and an ice cold can of Schmidt beer to chase it. All for $5. In my opinion, Schmidt is way tastier than PBR any day of the week: it's like beer soda.
