This is one of the oldest bookstores in Dublin. The main entrance has beautiful large windows with…read morebook displays. The Grafton Street entrance is a little less ornate. The store has several floors with a large selection of books. It has lots of Irish literature and Irish authors as well as fiction, travel, cooking, children's box and lots of others. Prices are comfortable to other bookstores. The staff were very helpful in finding books and recommending books. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in Dublin

This is three stories of books and it is worth taking a slow walk through! The books are new-book prices so they are a bit expensive but just seeing the huge selection of books and the huge store is enough. I ended up getting one book as a gift for a friend and a Hodges Figgis tote bag for myself. The people working here are friendly and knowledgeable. There is always someone around if you have any questions.

Fair play to Village Books for trying to diversify Irish readers' tastes. There is a fairly large selection of cards in store, of varying qualities, but definitely something here to suit all tastes. The children's and teenagers' book sections are quite extensive and there is also a considerable selection of fantasy books. Village books has quite an array of children's toys as well, so I imagine this would provide an excellent means of distraction for kids who are dragged here by their desperate-for-a-good-read mothers. Village Books has a pleasant, unassuming atmosphere and browsing is not frowned upon.

The owner - a publisher himself - has a lifetime's experience of stocking the best of Irish fiction, history and general Irish interest books, journals, magazines and pamplets. A "must see" shop for all Irish historians, geneaolgists and literati. The place is crammed with shelving and is not for the claustrophobic! Well worth a visit.

From the outside it doesn't look that big, but step inside and you find yourself in a tardis, with books piled from floor to ceiling, winding backwards and sideways and crammed into every possible place. While it can initially be a little intimidating by the sheer volume, everything is organised into genres and between fiction and non-fiction so finding things is easier than you initially think. The fact that the books are second hand means you might find little gems that you wouldn't see piled neatly in the chain stores because publishers tell them too, and you might stumble across a book or author you'd never even considered. If you can't find what you are looking for, don't be afraid to ask, these guys are super friendly, and at the prices they charge who would bother with a kindle! I'll be back, when I've a couple of hours to spare. :-)

I love second hand bookshops and this is one of the best. Visit and I promise you'll spend ages exploring. An amazing Aladdin's cave with a huge range on offer. I love the art book section, I love it all, I just love bookshops like Keats & Chapman. Black Books, eat your heart out!
