I kept hearing good things about Eden so decided it was time to give it a go last month. It is…read moresituated a little out of the gay village so I have often been on my way there and got distracted by the many other places on offer. The venue is very deceptive, from the outside it looks like a small pub when infact it is a decent size club venue with a large room at the back for shows and performances. We were treated a very realistic Madonna impersonator complete with outfit changes and backing guitarist. I was surprised with the quality of the act that it was free entry all night, apparently this is the case all the time! Its safe to say a good night was had by all especially Jamie T who really harnessed his inner queen of pop. I will definitely be back to Eden soon i'm just gutted I left it so long before making a visit.

It was a sunny evening so we headed straight outside to the terrace area. When we arrived I was instantly impressed. When we walked in we were greeted by smiles all round and a funky bass line. I'd say it was 50/50 male and female in there which gave the place a great vibe as the other places I've been in the area had a predominantly male crowd. The drinks were reasonably priced; I bought a couple of wines and a couple of shots which came to around £10. I'd definitely go there again. Good atmosphere, nice crowd, funky tunes!

Another worthwhile addition to Birmingham's gay scene, Chic is not devoted to disco as the name…read moremight suggest but is definitely one for nightbirds. When all the other gays have stopped dancing, you can head to Chic and continue pulling shapes thanks to the club's late late license. If you plan on checking it out, be aware it's a bit of a trek from the gay quarter, located more or less opposite the new Academy on Horse Fair, just off the Queensway. It's not the prettiest side of town, but the venue is good for a big night out - although as I prefer my bed now to catching the first train home, I've never been able to last more than an hour after heading to the after-hours night on Saturday. The few times I've been there the music has been big club house anthems, including remixes of popular chart hits, and the drinks prices haven't taken too much advantage of the fact that not many other places are open at 5 in the morning! The crowd is mixed but heavier on the gay quota than perhaps the Loft Lounge, so put your dancing shoes on and make sure you're loaded on Red Bull to see it through to closing time.

I love, love, love this club!…read more If you're looking for a cracking night out with the most up for it - and extremely camp - crowd then you need to check out Chic. We use to pretty much live in there when it used to be called Kudos and speed garage dominated the party scene. Nowadays you'll be provided with a soundtrack that oozes a combination of classic vocal sing-a-longs to bassline anthems. The bars are good, 1 in the side room when you fiirst walk in, 1 large bar in the main room, and another upstairs. Even if the club gets busy the staff are really quick and you always get served without ever having to wait long which is great as the musics that good you won't want to be away from the dancefloor for long! There's also a really cool outside terrace which has a tree house effect with an upper tier full of bean bags... it really is a fabulously fun venue.

I understand that the club can do nothing about the rain, but sat in the stands the updates are sporadic at best. Despite the rain drying up shortly after the proposed start time there was very little information passed to the fans until the game was called off about an hour before the final deadline. I get that they are at the mercy of the elements but they do nothing to make you feel like they appreciate your support. They refused to refund me 50p for a scorecard which I can clearly never use, obviously not a big hit to my bank account but why be so petty. Overall my evening consisted of buying expensive beer in plastic cups and less than average food on the promise of sport which in the absence of information it can only be assumed was never going to happen. I've had some great times at this ground but won't be going back until they show me some respect when I'm there instead of e-mailing me twice a week to sell me things.

Admittedly, its not an opinion that's too widely shared but you'll just have to go with me on this one. Edgbaston Cricket Ground has changed markedly since I first rocked up here as an 11 year old to watch the mighty Bob Willis bowl off a run-up that seemingly started somewhere in the vicinity of the car park. The most significant of these changes have taken place over the last year or so with the £30m redevelopment of the ground incorporating a new member's stand and press and corporate facilities that could even put a smile on Geoff Boycott's face. As the majority of these redevelopments have been on the Edgbaston Road side of the ground this has transformed the whole look of the place, making it more welcoming and providing an arena to be proud of. In contrast to the stadia of other sports (I'm looking at you now football) the seating here allows plenty of leg-room. Crucial when your legs are as long as mine. For higher profile games there are numerous burger vans and snack bars dotted around the concourse and there are several public bars around the ground serving that aforementioned cider and other beverages. The only drawback is the price - around £4 a pint. Ouch. As I write, England are due to appear here shortly and Warwickshire CCC are having an excellent season, so let's get behind our local team. Altogether now, "Come on you Bears!".
