This is a really cute place. I'm not a huge beer drinker, but my best friend is. He loves his craft beer, and his beer app, so there was plenty of choice hung up on the clipboards on the wall. I don't normally go for beer (and I don't drink coffee, their other awesome offering on here, made the bar area smell great though) so I was excited by the actual offerings of speciality tea past calling twining's earl grey as such... staff are lovely, and there were some sexy looking cakes sat on the bar. Then it comes to the pinball machines, up and downstairs- tens of them. We played Star Wars and hobbit pinball, but I wanted to play pretty much every machine. It's awesome, it knows what it is and pulls it off.all reasonably priced too. Ps: great place to find facial hair. read more

This place is pretty much ideal. It's is not only satisfying the pinball lover in me but also the caffeine addict and the craft beer rookie. I love everything about the design here, it is clean and minimal with pinball boards in the walls. I had a perfect latte and a slice of lime cake this afternoon but could not resist a quick blast on the Adams family pinball. There are about six machines in total and they are all in epic. The only decision you have to make is not of you want to play, it's which machine to get on which is the hard part! This shop has not been here long and is 100% worth a visit. It's spot on and very me. I am definitely one of tilts new regulars. read more

Coffee and craft beer are all the rage these days but Tilt manages to mix up the formula through the power of pinball....yes a row of joy in the shape of pinball machines and at £2 for 3 credits it's possible to get plenty of joy out of them. The place itself is nicely done, it is in a constant state of improvement at the moment as it is independent and newly opened but there are plenty of seats and tables, in fact it's worth noting they have a basement area with more, quieter (the upstairs might be a little loud for some of those who like to work in a coffee shop) seating with good quality toilets. They seem to be taking the same approach to both coffee and beer in that it's always on rotation and they pick on the more experimental side of the spectrum, which means there is always plenty to try. On the food front they are much more limited and generally just have 1 or 2 types of cake on offer, they do buy from the brilliant Bake however so what they do have is pretty darn tasty. All in all well worth a visit and a very pleasant place to spend some time with good coffee/beer and pinball. read more

After hearing all the buzz about Tilt opening, Seth S. and I decided to check it out. I totally dig this cute little place! The decor is modern, sleek and bright. Pinball board art is hung on bright white walls, with minimalist tile, modern lights, and clean lines. The seating is reminiscent of school chairs and stools, which are not the most comfortable but fit well with the design aesthetic. Seth S. ordered a grape sour beer, which was delightfully balanced, bright, and fruity. I ordered the chocolate tea. Wow! I've never heard of chocolate tea before, but it's my new favorite hot beverage. The bar keep takes time to make an excellent cup of tea - loose leaf - steeped to aromatic perfection. The milk is served in a beaker, which I think is a cute touch. The pinball game selection is great. I was so happy they have the Addams Family game - it was one I played all the time as a kid. My first visit to Tilt was on the eve of Yelps Big Night Out. I'd heard about it, bookmarked it but never quite made it there before. It's quite a different and almost special place... You walk in and it looks like a coffee shop (well it is also a coffee shop) but there's also a wide selection of beers on draught and other ciders in bottles. I really like its location, its almost hidden away in an alleyway but it still has enough footfall to keep the place lively but not overcrowded. I am not particularly intrested in the pinball and the interior can appear a little cold and i think could benefit from some softer touches - maybe some sofas or armchairs? It isn't cheap, but usually craft beers aren't so what do you expect? It's a place I will be going back to again and i'm looking forward to it. read more

Oddly placed in an arcade that is hidden around the back of Primark, is a lovely small bar called Tilt. It is small, it has about 10 tables. It also has about five pinball machines which is a really fun touch. It has a bar of beers which you can try before you buy and also does coffee and a few cakes. No other food unfortunately. What a great place! Even though it's full of pinball machines, it manages to be a really chill space, which was sorely needed in Birmingham. Fantastic selection of teas, some of the best coffee I've had in town, and really unique craft beers on tap. And, of course, pinball! Great fun! Tilt occupies a very minimalist but quirky space, with tables by the windows that are good for working and having a cuppa, and high tables at the back that are great for enjoying a pint later on by the pinball machines. There is also a basement seating area good for large groups. I believe they are still developing a food menu, but this evening they had carrot cake available, and man, it was some of the most delicious carrot cake I've ever had! I visited Tilt with a large group of friends on a weekday. We were able to snag a good area of the shop easily near the pin ball machines. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. I opted for an on tap beer, but some others enjoyed the tea and coffee selections. There was one cake, carrot I think, which probably was completely eaten by the time our group left! Haha. The over all idea of the place is really good. But I don't think it hits it on the head quite yet. I feel this place is in its early stages and has room for growth, which is a good thing! The shop itself was pretty bare, which made the pin ball machines seem out of place. A shop interior designer needs to come through and have a good go at it! An idea for the machines I came up with is a "buy in" rate, and then an ongoing leadership board... linking all the machines together. I'm from America where a pinball machine is only 25 cents. So a pound for a game seemed a bit much. But I understand it is a novelty. And getting a leadership board makes things fun and people more likely to play more than once! The staff were awesome and on point. The place was clean and tidy, and if I find myself wanting to go to a place in B'ham again that is a bit off the radar, I will visit Tilt again. :) read more

Great tea, coffee, fabulous beers and pin ball! They now sometimes have two cakes! Last time I counted four different types of hot chocolate also. It is situated in an odd place, there are lots of 'a' boards on Corporation St and New St so it is east to find if you see the signs. They open late, which is fantastic I can only Starbucks that are open past 6pm. It gets busy at night, so do not expect to go there for a litle evening quiet time. I met a group of friends at Tilt for a weekday night out. I got red berry tea and shared a slice of carrot cake with my wife. Both the tea and cake were excellent and a single slice was enough for the both of us to share (they cut the slices fairly big). In terms of alcohol, they had a selection of drought and bottle beers, as well as some cocktails to choose from. There wasn't any cider on the menu, but the droughts change regularly, so they may have it sometimes. I enjoyed playing pinball, but the only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is because the pinball was so expensive. It costs 1 pound to for one game or 2 pounds for three games. I would have preferred to pay a small upfront charge (3-4 pounds) to get unlimited access for the evening or for some time limit. Since because pinball isn't a particularly common activity, it's easy to not be especially good so the games that I and some of my friends played ended fairly quickly. That being said, overall, the food and drink was good and the atmosphere was fun. I probably won't come back for the pinball, but I will come back for the drinks. read more

With time, Tilt has matured well, with the formerly nascent concept now a leader in this niche market segment. Since my previous review earlier in the year, Tilt has added additional pinball machines while switching out some of the older machines for a constantly rotating selection of the best cabinets you can find. Beyond pinball, my primary reason for visiting Tilt almost weekly is for the increasingly superb beer selection. Simply put, they are tapping kegs of beers that are not too easy to find elsewhere in greater Birmingham. On top of that, they are sometimes the first to get beers in, indicative of several I've tried not even being rated on Untapped at that point! A slight weakness of their taps is that they've been limited to about six at any time, and on many visits at least one or two have kicked. The issue of choice was recently solved with a game-changing addition of a beer refrigerator. Patrons can choose a can or bottle of their favourite brew, and choose to drink it at Tilt or take it home with them. There are several other places in City Centre that offer this, but not with the same craft selection at really, really good prices. On a recent trip I snagged a berlinerweisse can for only £3.10, cheaper than what some supermarkets charge for craft beers. Tilt has also expanded the baked goods selection, with two choices available at all times from Edgbaston-based BAKE. Some of their cakes are amongst the best bundts you'll find in the city, and my favourite part is that a discount applies with an Independent Birmingham card. As long as Tilt can continue with such a well executed vision, it will remain my city centre go-to hang out venue. read more

The selection was brilliant and I've been told their selection on beers is good too. This place is tucked away and in a nice little location. Little independent cafe at a back alley. This is a really nice calming place as it's secluded away from the busy high streets. Inside is a simple interior with a twist of retro pac-man arcade machines, which were turned off when I attended however I can gather it makes a great evening event. I will certainly visit this place again as it serves my favourite dragon well/long jing tea, which provides great fragrance and taste. Definitely worth a visit. read more

So This week i was invited to a social gathering at Tilt and i'm very surprised to what i found lurking being the bin of mothercare. A Really cool bar/ cafe concept with pinball machines. Bit of an odd location especially at night the alley way is dimly lit but once inside your in a safe haven. The quirky little loose tea pots are great and the fresh coffee selection is one of the best i've seen. They have a good selection of craft beers bottled and some on tap, which changes on a daily basis so you will have a lot to look forward to each time you visit. The beers can be hit and miss depending on personal tastes so i recommend you always ask for a taster. To put the cherry on top... they also do cake but by the time I got there it was gone.. This place has a very relaxed chilled out vibe which i liked very much but it did feel clod and isolated. It was a shame to say this place is very much a blank canvas. the pinballs machines add character to the place but this is where it stops. I'd like to see much more colour on the walls and some of the creativity they have used downstairs to be used on the main floor too. I haven't been during the day but i can imagine it to have similar chilled vibe.. just go in for a coffee and do some work, read a book, chat with friends. They have plug sockets on the walls so you can charge your personal devices. Tilt is in City Arcade, just in between the back of Primark and Corportation Street. There hasn't been anything in there for a while so it's good to see an independent business taking up the space. Tilt is a coffee shop and bar with the addition of pinball machines! This is a pretty great concept as it stops being just another bar and becomes a talking point. The interior is stripped back- plain walls, school science lab type stalls, a simple bar. The pinball machines take up a corner of the room and there's tables in that area too so your friends can sit and drink while you pinball! The coffee is pretty good but not somewhere I would rush specifically for coffee. The beers change regularly and are really interesting. They also willingly offer samples. I was stood by the menu commenting on a beer called custard pie or similar. I turned around and a sample had already been poured for me! Drinks are not the cheapest but they are unusual and excellent quality. I love the concept and it has a really cool laid back atmosphere. They only have cakes for food (from Bake though) so it would be nice to have some other bits and bobs available. Maybe they will in time. Overall, a great place to drink and play pinball read more

Tilt is an independent cafe tucked away in City Arcade, just 30 seconds from New Street. It specialises in coffee, loose leaf tea, craft beers and pin ball. Whenever I've been in in the day time it's unfortunately been quite quiet, but the staff are very friendly and the funky music and the sound of the pinball machines stops it from feeling dead. The decor in Tilt is very stripped back, with a few funky art pieces and old school science-lab style seating. The effect is really trendy, but perhaps opt for a different cafe if you're looking for somewhere to curl up with a book. The coffee has always been great on my visits, and the tea is served in really nice kitchen-ware, such as a conical glass for the milk. There is plenty of choice on all the drinks options, and they offer some rare craft beers, so certainly worth a visit if you're into your beers! Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of choice on the food front. Tilt get their cakes from the local bakery BAKE in Edgbaston, and whenever I've tried them they've been delicious. What is a shame though is that there is only ever two to choose from, so it's not a great cafe if you want a wide choice of edible treats to have with your drink. Overall, Tilt is a great little cafe with a lot of potential. It's a brilliant option for a coffee-break if you want to get away from the busy-ness of the shops. The fact that you can play on the old pinball machines is obviously also a clear selling point, so definitely pay a visit when you're next in need of a pit-stop in the town centre! read more

Yelpers of Birmingham: thank you for directing me to Tilt, a friendly, laid-back and fun combination of decent coffee, tea, beer (bottled and on tap) and pinball! I can see why this place may have become an unofficial meeting spot for local Yelpers. I only tried the beer 'n cake (they had me at the words 'cherry bakewell'. Mmmm), both from the taps and the fridge. The beer selection has an unusual 'tilt' (chortle): a clear majority of it is 'saison' or 'sour' so if that's your thing you'll be very happy here. Me, I was more than content with the few but nevertheless good stouts in their fridge, guided by the really friendly and helpful staff. The pinball was good value at £1 a go or £2 for three gos. My good lady thoroughly approved of the Lord of the Rings machine. At the risk of offending proud Brummies (sorry!) I didn't see much evidence of 'cool' in Birmingham in the all-too-little 36 hours I was in the city (other than in Digbeth). Tilt is a notable exception to that, and I tip my (Trilby) hat to it. read more

Tilt is a fairly new drinking establishment in on of the city's last remaining forgotten-about arcades. Café by day, craft beer bar by night, Tilt also has the added bonus of pinball machines! Located just off Corporation St., one of Birmingham's main central thoroughfares, Tilt sits at the end of City Arcade, an often-overlooked Victorian shopping arcade that feels due a new lease of life. The bar isn't fancy, but it is big and comfy enough, with seating upstairs and in a large basement room too. I can't speak for the coffee but there's a great selection of craft beers on offer at the bar, particularly if you, like me, are a fan of something a little more sour. The bar staff are really friendly, knowledgable and helpful - happy to tell you all about the beers on offer. Tilt's most unusual feature is the selection of pinball machines lined up near the entrance. After initially dismissing these as a gimmick I have to admit to getting pretty quickly hooked after a couple of beers. All of the machines are fun and look great. The lists are constantly changing and developing, making every visit exciting. I went to Tilt with high expectations and I have to say it met and surpassed them. The concept of tilt is a late night coffee shop with a decent beer selection with pinball machines and on all of the above it delivers in epic fashion. What it does it does very well, the tea and coffee selection is one of the best in the city. The beer selection is unique and rotates regularly and I would urge anyone to take a look at the bottle selection there are a few hidden gems to discover and all are worth trying. They also do cake.... But I will warn you they only have one or two a day and once they are gone they are gone. The place itself has a great vibe with everyone very relaxed, sat around talking there are loads of tables, stools and chairs. During the day it's a really nice place to stop for coffee or in my case open the laptop to work (free WiFi and there are plug sockets) and then at night sit relax with friends and then there is the pinball. There are a range of machines both upstairs and downstairs and it is scary how what starts as,harmless fun turns into a competition particularly in large groups. I can't say that I had this place on my radar, I'm not really a gaming person so pinball machines weren't a pull for me. I ended up going here to meet a group at the start of a night out and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Located in City Arcade, I understand Tilt started as a cafe and then added in a licence. I admit I've developed a taste for cask ales over recent years and thoroughly enjoyed the three I sampled. They were also very happy to let you try a small sample of each beer before purchasing. One member of the group had a dark 'pale' ale which looked very dark but tasted surprisingly more like a pale ale. I liked the variety that were available on tap, and apparently they have a few brewery 'takeovers' which I would be interested in checking out. The bar did have a nice buzz about it, but there were a few in the group, so I would be interested to see how the atmosphere changed on a normal night. The decor is minimalistic with the pinball machines being the star attraction. I'm the sort of person that would avoid arcades so I was surprised that I actually found it a fun concept and I actually think it would make quite a nice venue for a chilled out first or second date. Used Tilt as a meeting point to round up a big group of pals here on a weekday evening before venturing out into Birmingham. And ain't it wonderful! Real quaint, under the radar and is a great cafe/bar/arcade mashup with the added novelty of being able to play Pinball. PINBALL. Unfortunately we were in a bit of a rush so we didn't get to play but I'm sure I would have had a cracking time. I played it safe with a cappuccino so smooth I was properly seduced, but others opted for hot chocolates, chocolate teas and beers. Didn't look like there was a huge selection of beer but they were ones I'd never heard of before so am keen to return for some tastys! I'm kinda feeling they've gone for minimalist, urban themed vibes inside that remind me a little of some similar places in Amsterdam, and I'm not sure it quite works just yet. Feel like it needs a bit of a re-jig and a little more thought put into it but it's a great concept and I'm looking forward to see how they grow! This is a very cute place located in the back alleys of city arcade, but don't let the surroundings put you off. The beers taste great and the atmosphere (if not a little minimalistic) is generally good. The staff are polite and the music is good. A bunch of us visited here last week and It was a superb evening! I'd heard positive things about this place and I can see why. Serving top quality beers, coffees and teas in simple surroundings plus lots of pinball machines for you to enjoy. I originally thought I wouldn't enjoy the pinball as much as I did, but one game took me back to years gone by and you couldn't tear me away from the machines. I loved trying the different beers they had on offer. The staff will talk you through each one and let you try them. They're not cheap but you pay for what you get! I think it's worth every penny. They're offerings are always changing which will keep me wanting to go back and try more. I'm convinced that I will be a pinball expert by the summer! Watch this space! read more

Tilt is a great bar/cafe in Birmingham. Good selection for all beer drinkers (there is normally at least a sour beer, stout, IPA etc on draft). I love sour beers so it's a great place for me :) They often have tap takeovers which are always busy and have a good selection of beers on from the brewery doing the tap takeover. The Beavertown one was pretty special and the Magic Rock tap takeover. The staff are really friendly as well. The coffee is great as well and of course who doesn't love cakes from Bake. I always have a white chocolate mocha (mmm). You can have a half or two thirds of a beer. You don't have to drink pints! They are clearly going for a modernist look inside the bar and personally I think it works really well. You can also bring food in or order food in there if you ask the staff. I have brought in lunch and ordered deliveroo to there before. read more

I visited 21/07/2016 as part of an event with Fourpure Brewery. Good selection of craft beers (a few more available than the last time I went here!) And friendly staff as always. I'm sure the selection of pinball games has changed since last time, sufficient number of machines available, so anyone who wants to play, can. I haven't yet had a chance to try the coffees. Only slight disappointment was the slightly limited number of seats, but that is expected with the size off Tilt's unit, and continued popularity. I went to Tilt to meet up with fellow Yelpers for the Big Night Out. Tucked away in City Arcade right in the centre of Birmingham I thought it was an odd location but it definitely works. The venue has a very rustic feel (almost unfinished) which also works well. It was pretty busy when I arrived and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere. If you are a fan of craft beer then this is definitely one for you. Even I could appreciate the thought that had gone into the drinks line up. However, as a non beer drinker I did find that my options were quite limited. There was only one red and one white wine to choose from. Luckily, the white that I had was lovely, crisp and very cold - just how I like it. Aside from our group there were a few other patrons milling around. I got the feeling that they were regulars and they sat chatting at tables, playing on the many pinball machines and chilling in the basement room. Definitely one to check out if your are passing by. read more

I always seem to slip by this place but the other day I finally entered. I was greeted by 8 amazingly decorated pinball machines and was instantly drawn towards the ghostbusters one. However drink first , I tried some of their homemade cocktails (a iced tea one ) and was quite delicious but lacked taste for my liking. So I opted for the organic Coca Cola , which came in an original design glass. I must admit I didn't really like the coke as I felt it lacked flavour and I missed my normal sugar packed version but if you like that kind of thing it would be perfect. The staff were polite and friendly too , which really added to the warming atmosphere. I went back to the pinballs and ended up washing quite a bit of money down their slots but was all worth it What went well - great selection of pinballs, allowed us to taste some beers and developed a warm atomosphere. Came here as part of Yelp's Big Night Out. A great place, with real care taken to ensure that the beer and coffee are served in immaculate condition. All at a price that seems more than fair for the quality. They also have pinball machines. Everywhere. They look fun and I'll be participating when I return next with a little more time to spare. Finally I got to try this place out on Saturday afternoon. The weather wasn't great and I'd agreed to meet a friend at 12.30 for a quick catch-up. Neither of us had been here before so it seemed a good choice. There were a few tables free but generally quite a happy buzzing vibe. I really enjoyed the background music too (for a change!). The decor is quite sparse but I liked it. There is a reasonable selection of craft beers, teas and coffees on offer. I chose a Berliner which was quite a fruity beer and my friend had an interesting looking tea. We shared an enormous slice of peanut butter chocolate cake-very fresh and tasty. We played a few games of pinball afterwards (I'm rubbish!). It was a brilliant way to spend 2 hours!! There is a large seating area downstairs too, but you wouldn't go there unless there was a large group as its a bit cold and creepy!!! Nevertheless is like to go back again! read more

Lovely bar with great pinball machines but it seems unfinished, bare and a bit stark, it has potential to be a great little venue and I love what they are trying to do! read more
