This was one of two pubs that I ate at on St Marys and i'm afraid the other was just a touch better. We had a large group and despite pre-booking had been crammed in next to another incredibly large and loud group so it was rather claustrophobic. In defence of the staff, they dealt with the large group near us very well as they seemed to have arrived with more people than they booked for. Staff were friendly and apologetic to us but unfortunately we were still left a little uncomfortable, especially as the room quickly became very warm due to having so many people in it so we were forced to open the fire door for some air.
The food was exactly what we needed after a long day, a mixture of burgers, salads and pub classics. There was also a carvery available which a few of my friends took advantage of instantly disappearing off and returning with mounds of meat, gravy, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. It would be impossible for me to criticise the portions. I had the "Wolf Burger" which thankfully wasn't made from a canine, but was a juicy chicken breast instead.
Prices were a tiny bit expensive, but not as much as the rest of the Scilly isles (£9.95 for a burger) so I would recommend this as somewhere to eat for those visiting the Scilly isles on a budget but who want a nice pub lunch.
If I could I would give it 3.5 stars not 3, but I don't think it quite earns 4. read more
