Programs begin at the Pre-K level, continue on for Kindergarten, and then progress through all grades First to Eighth. The preparation for high school is thorough and comprehensive. This school is jointly owned and run by four Catholic Parishes in the south suburbs: St. Elizabeth Seton Parish (also the parish on whose grounds the school resides), St. Julie, St. Stephen, and St. Francis Parishes. This Catholic grammar school is a wonderful ministry of these parishes. If you live in one of the parishes and are an active member, you can send your children to this school. The staff is good overall but I know they have a difficult time finding and keeping talented teachers. Most of the really good teachers gravitate to public schools with higher pay. The biggest problem is that some of the math teachers are terrible. It will be interesting to see if any changes are made to personnel in the future. The school has a high enrollment. With this high enrollment comes problems though. The school has some cliques. I know this is a problem at many schools also. There are some families that have taken over all of the parent groups. Whether its the Family Board, the School Board, the Athlete Board, Carnival Board, Facilities Board, the same people are holding power and doing favors for each other. It's nauseating. I suppose if you are in the right clique then everything will be fine. If you are not in the right clique then your children will be treated as second class citizens. I've seen alumni of the school get blackballed because they did not play nice with the power families. Maybe I'm getting carried away but it can be unnerving. The church is nice. It's not the fanciest church in the area but it is clean and inviting. The pastor is always asking for more money but name me a church that isn't asking for money. You can get married, baptized, and have funerals here. There is a big parking lot and they installed a playground which looks really nice. So here are your choices: Send your kids to public school, St Catherine, St Linus, St Gerald, and St Germaine. The good thing is that there are many choices in the Oak Lawn area for elementary education. You will do good with any of them.

Unfortunately, my child now experiences anxiety when entering any school setting, which is a significant concern. Additionally, I was disappointed to learn that deposits and school materials are non-refundable due to their "standard process." I also noticed that there were no requirements or assessments for the cohort my child was in, which raised concerns about the overall standards. The protocol and procedures for student removal are vague, almost nonexistent, creating mismatched expectations for us. We also felt that the school lacks diversity, as it seems to favor a specific type of student while not adequately addressing the emotional needs of the kids. Despite these challenges, I would recommend this school to parents of typical, average smart kids who are prepared to engage in the learning process. Parents should also be prepared for year-long donation requests via email, text, and automated phone calls, plus in average one week no school per school month. AP subjects include English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, US History, and Biology. Honors courses are offered in most subject areas. Class sizes are small (generally fewer than 18 students/class) with opportunities for 1:1 tutoring and other support services with classroom teachers and support staff. Charity and charism are part and parcel of the school's mission and philosophy. As such, students give of themselves through many different outreach opportunities such as our monthly food drives, COVID-19 testing and vaccination days, mental health support and awareness community events, and Ecology/environmental outreach at Big Marsh Park and other nearby wetlands. Students are warm and welcoming to each other. It is a supportive, loving environment for learning. Sports have always been a keystone activity. Recent options include Soccer, Basketball, Track, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and Cheer & Dance. What I do like about this school is that it seems to (contrary to popular demand) cater to their students in a way that many public schools seem to miss. They really take their kids seriously, and although they have a bad rap, it doesn't seem this way to parents. They have a football field (a few blocks away from the school) and the kids are always practicing. The actual school is still in its vintage look, but with modern updates to make sure that they are still caught up with other schools. I use to come around to pick up relatives who went here and often times I would volunteer. All in all, not a bad school, just that sometimes a few rufians mess up the reputation but the school can stand on its own.
