Late night snack at Bismillah Raval Kebabish! This is a hole-in-the-wall spot, but crowded. at 9:30 pm. I ordered a shish kebab and a salad. It comes with freshly made pita bread! There's a machine cranking them out, so you know it's gonna be good. I got this to go and didn't snap a shot, but it was delicious! The meat was tender, seasoned well with a bit of a kick, yet not salty. There was a nice yogurt sauce that was a dressing for both the meat and salad. And the pita bread had a great chew to it. In my shawarma around the world experience, Barcelona is generally lacking. I'd say the shawarma here was pretty good all things considered. They shaved it down real thin and custom built the sandwich. Signs everywhere say "cash only"...I asked where can I find an ATM and the dude produced a card reader. So maybe it's a 'we prefer cash' place...but your mileage may vary. It's clean and a nice place to sit and have a sandwich for a few euro. Is there better in BCN? Coming from Boston we don't get much authentic ethnic food. I was craving a Shawarama and this place was highly recommended online. It's cash only. My husband and I are frequent travelers to our apartment in Barcelona. We have been to many, many such Kebab places. The food is usually adequate, but not stellar. We searched for something that had great reviews and we found this place. It was very crowded, which is a good sign because it means food is not sitting around growing bacteria. My husband ordered a shawarma and tandoori plate and I ordered a chicken curry with rice and salad. While the restaurant is a bit chaotic and, again, very crowded, my curry was delicious, plentiful and flavorful. The shawarma and tandoori were also very well received. These two plates and a couple of sodas and we were out for less than 30€. Will definitely go ahead and put it on our list of repeats. read more

We stopped in for a quick sandwich between tours. The place is manned by a bunch of friendly immigrants who know how to cook! We ordered the shawarma mixta (chicken and beef), and a samosa. The samosa arrived hot and crispy on the outside (too many samosas are served "mushy"), with a delicately spiced potato filling. The shawarma was a monster; really too big to eat as a sandwich. It was dressed with red cabbage salad, and the traditional "white" sauce. A flavorful (but not too hot) spicy red sauce, and more of that savory white sauce were offered on the table. The meat was well spiced and cooked, and very juicy. The atmosphere was "so so", but you aren't here to be serenaded by a lounge singer; you want a quick, hot, filling and inexpensive meal. I had chicken Tikka (4/5pieces of masala grilled chicken breast) w 1 naan(white flour oven baked bread) for 4,6eur? Doubtful? Well kitchen is opened, and you can see that traditional Indian oven where the naan bread is freshly made quasi in front of you. Oh my god I miss this place. I used to live five minutes from here and unfortunately didn't discover it until my last two months in Barcelona. But once my roommate and I discovered it, it became our go-to hangover spot. Also late dinner/no groceries/about-to-start-drinking-but-we-should-eat-first spot. I am so glad we went with bismallah. the boyfriend and I really enjoyed the chicken shawerma and shish kebab, plus their freshly made Naan..and all for 12 euro..what a steal! Even the kebabs in the bay area don't come this close. The staff is very friendly and I enjoyed stuffing my face. Absolutely the best kebab in Barcelona... maybe the best kebab I've ever had anywhere. I lived up the street from this place for two years and though I tried hard to fight it, I became a regular. They bake the bread in a tandoor right in front of you and mix some veggies and onion into the chicken on the grill. Everything's made right in front of you. These guys must be supply chain geniuses because there's always at least 5 or 10 people waiting for a kebab but still it never takes longer than a few minutes. The best doner kebab in BCN. I spent a summer in BCN in 2008 and ate here all the time. Came back a couple months ago and was happy to find that the place is every bit as good as I remember it being. It's important to point out that these doners are Pakistani-style, which means the chicken tastes like tandoori chicken and instead of pita bread, they use freshly baked naan. Beef kebab is ok, not the best in Barcelona and definitely not in Europe. Price is reasonable, I think its €3.50 to €4. Restaurant is always packed & kind of look not good because it is kind of dark. The prices are the cheapest I've seen in the city and the portions are enormooooous (a plate of chicken/mixed with rice and salad, for 4.50€, is enough for two). The first place we went to in Barcelona after landing. We were tired from flying and looking for something simple and delicious to eat. We found it. The kind server brought a table from the inside of the restaurant out to the sidewalk so that we could dine al fresco. We each got the meal which includes two empanadas of your choice, a salad, a drink of your choice (wine too!) and a coffee. It was a satisfying and grounding meal for 11.50 euros. I like very much this place because they serve a really cheap and tasty kebab. It us located in a really nice street on the Raval (Joaquin Costa) that happens to be 100 yards from the MACBA museum of modern art (skaters on the premises). I agree with others, their hand made flat bread is amazing. And they don't go cheap on the meat they put in the kebab, there is plenty. I have to say that I always take my meal to go. I live nearby and is not the cleanest place on earth. And also, same hand is preparing your food is giving you the change. I created a Yelp account specifically to rep this place. I have eaten many delicious foods in many places without reviewing them, but this place is so criminally under-loved that I was spurred to action. I'll start with a bold proclamation: This is the greatest kebab of all time. Close calls with L'As du Falafel and Chez Marianne in Paris, but Bismillah is the best. I will not-so-briefly describe why. (Caution: Bismillah is not really a falafel place. It technically sells falafel, but skip that and go straight for the meat.) 1.) The bread. The bread, a fresh-baked-every-30-minutes-or-so naan, is the secret weapon. Each kebab (shawarma) is based around a big, fat, airy, chewy, delicious round of naan. I went here upwards of 20 times during my summer in Barcelona, at all times of day, and the naan was warm from the oven every time. 2.) The meat. I typically went for the shawarma mixta, which is a combination of the truly fantastic curried chicken, and the slightly more ambiguous beef, both roasted on a spit in the Doner Kebab style, and carved off with a giant knife. The meat is delicious and juicy and the curried chicken has a slight kick and a wonderful spice blend. Can't go wrong with any option (beef, chicken, or mixta)-- the 'mixta' option comes with a pile of meat which, while substantial, does not overwhelm the naan. 3.) The fixings. Typical fixings are lettuce, tomato, red onion, and the phenomenal red and white sauces. This kebab is not overstuffed with crappy lettuce-- the meat and bread are the stars, and the lettuce and onion are used in judiciously small portions, enough to provide texture without detracting from the stronger flavors. The tomatoes were consistently awesome and fresh, and each kebab got about 2 big fat tomato slices-- the perfect amount of acidity and sweetness. The portions and ratios here are pretty fantastic. Finally, make sure to grab plenty of the spicy, viscous red sauce, and the cool cucumber-ish white sauce (vastly superior to any normal kebab tzatziki sauce) It's huge, its delicious, it's well-proportioned, and it will run you between 3.50 and 4.50 euros, depending on your choice of meat. It is without question the best value in Barcelona. Additionally, Bismillah Kebabish sells other, almost equally delicious foods in the form of curries and chicken tikka. I loved the kebab so much that it took almost 10 tries before I bucked up the courage to try something different-- but lo and behold, the chicken tikka plate (served with 5 or 6 large pieces of tandoori tikka chicken, a heap of jasmine rice, and a side of fresh vegetables, and liberally applied red and white sauces) was among the best chicken tikkas I have ever eaten. This is corroborated by several colleagues-- the only time I've ever had better was at a Pakistani wedding with homemade food. The curries were also great, but not great enough to keep me from getting the kebabs or tikkas. Don't be afraid to sample them, though. All in all, this place is an absolute gem. It's clean, constantly full of locals (Pakistani and other south Asian and Middle Eastern residents of the Raval), has a reasonable amount of table space, the owners are friendly (especially to repeat customers), and you will literally never be able to eat more than 7 euros worth of food in one sitting. Seriously. A+ all around, for food, value, atmosphere. If you're in Barcelona, just eat here, it is more than worth your time and money.
