I hate leaving bad reviews but I am worried someone might DIE here…read more I ordered a whisky and after sitting down noticed it had fruit flies in it. I went back to the bartender and he apologized and then offered me another drink. I looked at multiple bottles and ALL of them had flies. I said they needed to throw them away and I would just take a beer. He gave me a beer free and then went outside to hang with my friend. I then watched him pour the bottles through a strainer and then back into the bottles. Not only did they never rinse the glass but didn't rinse the strainer that had the flies in it. So - Do NOT drink any whisky in this place. In fact don't drink any hard liquor in this place. Other bottles had flies but didn't see them "recycling" them. Bartender was very nice and amicable but this place should be shut down. Someone will get sick. No idea if they clean their beer lines or not but just stay away.

I went here after seeing Kings of Leon and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds earlier this year and noticed lots of other people from the shows wander in. The staff are friendly, the bar stock everything from Guiness and ale to quality spirits and the atmosphere is warm and bustling. There's clusters of wooden chairs and tables and a window seat where you can watch the world go by or strike up conversations with - equally intoxicated - locals.

The clientele are a mainly local crowd, but it's close to the railway station so also gets communters on their way from work. It serves Harvey's Sussex Bitter (nice) and a guest ale. The primary reason I really like the Duke of Wellington (incidentally everyone affectionately calls…read moreit the Duke of Boots), is that it never seems to shut. Often, when walking back from North Laine with friends, we'll pass the Boots and just have one more for the road. What a boon! It looks largely unremarkable from the outside and inside it's hardly exuberant but this is a pub of many facets. They play a lot of sport on the telly there and Saturday afternoons are packed with football fans and the like. The sheltered garden is pleasant. The pool table often seems to be the venue for a lively contest. They have a popular poker night too. The staff are among the most bubbly of any pub in Brighton and whoever stocked the bar computer with music has impeccable taste. There's always something interesting being piped out and they take requests. But what's with the bar? It must be the lowest in the country? Ideal for wheelchair users, but a little on low side for a strapping six footer. I'm hardly a giant and it barely reaches belt level. Wags theorise that the pub was designed by dwarves but that seems unlikely. Everything else is normal size. It's a good time pub, basically. It does what a pub should do. And it does it well. Who wants more than that?

This is for sure going to be my new favourite beer spot…read more Great beer. Cool decor. Dog friendly.... I literally couldn't ask for more. Although, their bacon dusted chips don't exactly harm their rating either... I've been meaning to try this place for such a long time and I am so glad I got the chance to!! I met a fellow Yelper here (to recommend all the best choices) as well as some of her friends and I was just delighted at every step, really. Firstly, the design of this place is magic. Somehow they're cool but casual - edgy but familiar at the same time. Everything looks great and it's slick and modern, but there's a comfortable charm about the place as well which reeks of an old, local pub. It's a wonderful combination and it works effortlessly. Secondly, the beer. They have every kind of beer, at every percentage and (most helpfully) they have friendly and knowledgable staff to help you find your perfect match. They don't even correct you when you order a 'Number 1' instead of an 'N1', which shows their kindness! :P Being an utter craft beer newbie, this was a great experience and there is definitely going to be a beer here for you, regardless of your taste. Thirdly, the food!! I had bacon dusted chips. Yes, you heard me! Bacon dust. As in, 100% bacon. Made into dust. It was an odd concoction but a tasty one nonetheless and if you're in the mood for chips but don't fancy being boring this is a great option! The chips themselves were fab - crispy and perfect! Lastly, they allow dogs in here, which (for a dog lover/owner) is the cherry on top, really!! Overall, this place is a true gem. It feels like it's well run and has been well thought out. It's certainly going to be well loved by me and Bramble, that's for sue, as I guarantee I will be back to try more of their wonderful beers!!

Tired of having walked up and down the hill (and up and down again, and again) during the day, I was happy to unwind at this "micro"pub in the early evening. The emphasis is very firmly on modern style keg beers, and there's plenty to choose from. About half the beers are in steady rotation, the other half are "keepers". There's a printed list available, with the ABV and style of each item included. Some of the beers are very expensive, think of UK 7 for a high ABV half-pint, or even a third. A little too expensive methinks, but this Brighton is a tourist spot and prices along the Channel coast tend to be on the higher side of the spectrum anyway. It's a friendly place, with highly knowledgeable and welcoming staff, so I lingered for more than two hours and had a bite, too, one of their burgers (which was good and not too expensive). Beer wise, expect to spend at least UK6 and up on the regular ABV pints. I was in a bit of an agitated mood when I came there, due to problems with my vaping equipment, but the atmosphere made me calm down in due course. Good place altogether, and conveniently close to the station.

When my friend and I got in, the whole party in this pub was just getting started at around 11:00. Although I did not eat the food there, I did enjoy the atmosphere, the drinks, and chatting with various people. They had a disc jockey playing various music that night, so it was definitely loud. I was introduced to supposedly one of the most popular English ciders, which is Strongbow. Liked the refreshing taste and the slight sweetness. I think I drank more than two pints here. I think it's a better alternative to just drinking beer all the time. We sat down on a hardwood table, but there is a place outside filled with sofas if you need a comfortable place to sit outside while fulfilling a smoking craving. Another great advantage this pub has is that it has free wi-fi, which is great if you need internet. Overall, this is a pretty good pub, one of the loudest I have been to during a Saturday night, and I had a great time hanging out with my friend and meeting a lot of really cool people. Just don't use the toilets here, it's pretty dirty, like most of pubs I've been to in England.

The pub naturally divides into separate areas, despite being essentially open plan. There is the front section with tables are chairs, the bar area, and a back section with comfy sofas and a pool table. They often have a DJ on weekend nights and the place can get really lively- nearly every time I've been on a Friday or Saturday night it's been packed and people inevitably end up dancing drunkenly about the place! Because it gets so busy, you can be waiting at the bar a while, but its a small payoff for such a great atmosphere. If it gets too hectic inside, they have a massive split-level garden, with plenty of seating and heaters. It's a great place to go if you're in a big group, because you'll usually find a seat. With great tunes, good drinks and fun people, the Sidewinder is the perfect place to go if you don't quite fancy a club, but you want to dance in to the wee hours!

They choose local food sources that avoid processing and create everything on site, with the extent of having their own flour mill. We were served their homemade complimentary sour dough bread with home made butter. This bread was so incredibly soft and moist. They are served on these rubber looking plates which the chef informs us is made from recycled plastic bags. The menu is simple for lunch. One - fish, plant, meat, dairy, and wild. We were given one menu to share between two of us, but if ya can't share the menu is projected on to the wall in two places for everyone - I guess their way of saving paper. The fish was cod and you can't get any better. The fish had been caught that morning! It was so soft and velvety and served on a delicious seaweed and poached leek mash. The menu is so light and innovative and nothing is soaked in oil or butter. The produce is well cared for and served accordingly. If your on the run, they have a selection of baked goods and takeaway sandwiches. I think the concept for Silo is exceptional. No waste and recycling is a great example to set for other restaurants. The wait for the food was a bit long but the standard of food is so high its well worth the wait. The staff are very informative and the chefs explain the dishes whilst serving and are very proud for the concept they produce.
