Place reopened this year!!! 2026!!! Great new menus but same famous ones too, like chicken fried steak and mushroom hamburger

Had a really bad experience here. We tried to eat here...we were sat and watched a waitress talk to one table for 10 minutes. I grabbed some Menus to see what there was to eat. No one took our order. Others who came in after us were given menus and had their order taken. We were on the east side of the restaurant and I guess that side was not taken care of. Very unprofessional service. Great little small town cafe. But very busy Buffet is really the only choice when they are busy. We were there in October I think they were short handed but the chicken fried steak and sides were awesome! Oh but surprisingly no Bison Burgers!? Darn really wanted to try one! read more

I was so pleasantly surprised by the Bison Cafe. We were at Caprock Canyons State Park to see the bison and wanted a late lunch afterwards, so we drove into town the the cafe. I did not expect to find anything for a vegetarian to eat at a small restaurant in a small town in west Texas, but I found their salad bar to be well-stocked, varied, and fresh. The servers were all very polite and helpful, and both the homemade banana pudding and the cherry cobbler were delish. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods, I can recommend the Bison Cafe - just maybe take it easy on the deep fried options, because there are a lot of them! read more

Tried the Bison Cafe after a hike in Caprock! So delicious. the Fried Pickle burger was amazing and so was the old fashion cheese burger. the service was amazing great. very friendly and over the top helpful. definitely stop here on your way through town. read more

We stopped by after a day at Caprock Canyon and got the the breakfast burger and the avocado peppered bacon burger with tater tots. It was delicious! The burgers are really tasty and ambiance is charming. In the women's bathroom they have sugar scrubs and lotion for your hands. The staff was very helpful and friendly. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch after a hike at Caprock Canyon. We sat out on the patio with our dog. The waitress was super friendly! Hubby got the chile relleno burger, I had a bite! We had never had chile rellenos like these.... Loved them so much that we got three more to go! I was craving veggies so I went for the fresh mango salad... she said a small was big enough for two - I was starving after the hike so I asked for the large, just for me. It didn't disappoint! I ate nearly all of it except for a couple of bites! So delish! The art was very cute. Service was slow, but there is a disclaimer on the menu.... So sit, relax and enjoy the laid back Texas life. If we ever come by here, this will be a repeat stop for sure! read more

The food was unbelievable for a small town cafe. Everything we had was excellent. Very friendly service.

I brought my parents here for Sunday lunch, and it was wonderful. The food is amazing (I had a salad with grilled chicken, strawberries, feta cheese and raspberry vinaigrette. The salad was huge! The finale: free dessert! Banana pudding, strawberry shortcake and chocolate chip cookies, doughnuts. I need a nap. :) read more

Wow!! Completely unsuspecting, hidden gem, tucked away on the corner of town. We only pulled over because of previous reviews. Glad we did! This place exceeded every expectation. Fresh food from scratch -- menu and daily specials very creative and tempting, hard to choose! Everything we ordered was impressive and very tasty. Service was incredibly warm and sincere. Restrooms and dining area super clean. We got take out soft drinks for the long drive back and the sodas were huge! I would drive miles out of the way for this place -- well worth it! Prices low, portions generous. Open 11-3, 6-8pm -- fortunately we hit it at just the right time. They were open New Year's Day! read more

Bison Cafe has great food and service. I had a Cobb salad, and my husband had a burger. Both were excellent! We're definitely planning on returning before we leave the state park. Also, the decor is tastefully Texan, with a lot of bison art. read more

I see now why they get so many stars. Food was outstanding. FYI, in response to the person complaining about food prep time. Next time pay attention when a restaurant tells you it'll take a minute. To paraphrase, "We don't sell fast food. We sell food food." Your food is hand prepared. It'll take a minute. My beautiful wife had chicken tenders and I had a hamburger. My burger had avocado, which is why I picked it. It also a a candied something pepper drizzle. Both were yummy. If I lived close, we'd be here all the time, just like the locals are. read more

We spent half our day at Caprock Canyon State Park and decided to stop here on our way out and glad we did! Very pleased with the service, food, drinks, gift shop, and even the tidiness and charm in the bathrooms! The restaurant has detailed decor and beautiful canvas and oil paintings on the walls. Each table sitting had its own placemat and coaster with individualized messages. There are so many choices on the menu too!! The waitresses were very attentive and nice. Thank you!! read more

Outstanding chicken fried steak! Visited while at Caprock Canyons and had a lovely lunch. Diverse menu with burgers, salads, salad bar, and multiple specialty iced teas. Locally owned and delicious. Other campers told me I missed out on the fantastic banana pudding. read more

Very slow service,waitresses didn't care too much,waited for food for about 2 hours,had to watch a lady get up and ask for a refill,cook can't multitask and cooks only one plate at a time.Our waitress didn't come back except when giving us drinks. read more

Great food and friendly staff. The place is impeccably clean. By far the best small town restaurant I've been to.

Friendly folks with a chill environment and plenty of room to eat. A bar type food menu but no alcohol.

Bison Cafe has very good food and good service. The owner and the staff were very courteous and friendly folks ! When we entered to have lunch, this place was packed(not surprised since the food is great!)..but they were able to seat five of us after a small wait. We ordered sandwiches and salad and they came out all great and we were all very pleased with the quality of the food. Their chocolate molten lava cake is to die for !! If you are passing by the Cap rock Canyon state park, make sure you stop here and have a meal. read more

An unsuspecting cafe packed quite a punch. We came looking for coffee but found a cute family business instead. The wait was a bit long but the food was surprisingly amazing. Bison Cafe was an awesome and very friendly restaurant. The restaurant inside was very nicely done in a ranch and christian environment. My husband and I enjoyed it very much. The food has always been pretty good. But the service is horrible. We never get out of there in less than an hour. Six people last night and the first one received their food within 20 minutes of ordering and the last plate was brought out 65 minutes after ordering. Needless to say we didn't get to enjoy a meal together. We had the fish special last night..... first plate out had 4 nice size pieces of fish but the last plate out only had 2 very small pieces of fish and 8 tater tots. Like I said the food has always been pretty good, but definitely don't go if you are in a hurry. I have been about 5 times and each time just before leaving the waitress has always had some reason as to why the food was slow in getting there and says it's not always like this, but it has been the same way every time. I like the place and really hope that they will get things figured out some day. read more

Best restaurant in town. Had a good variety of choices and food was delicious. Service was a little slow due to be under staffed and it being busy but worth the wait. I'd definitely choose here over anything else. Plus curly fries and onion rings were crispy and hot! read more
