A fine dining bistro with comfortable seating and exquisite décor located in the lovely town of Maynooth. Came here during my Sunday walk of Royal Canal Way, but the lunch seating was full at around 2:00 pm so the staff told me to come back at around 5-6 pm for dinner. Came back at around 5:20 pm and was instantly offered a table. Service was friendly and attentive. Starter: foie gras. Came with two slices of intact foie gras with berry sauce, veggies, and sliced apples. Rich, gamey, savory flavor of goose liver, no foul taste at all, literally melting in the mouth, perfect to be enjoyed both stand-alone and with the crispy bread. The berry sauce and the sliced apples helped offset the fattiness of the foie gras and added succulent refreshing and fruity taste to the dish. One of the best foie gras dishes I've ever had. Entrée: 10 oz dry-aged rib eye steak, medium, with mash potato, green beans, and a bit of house green sauce. Steak came with beautiful grill marks, temperature was spot-on, packed with beefy flavor, and the beef fat part were kept intact to add more flavor and texture to the steak. The house green sauce had pleasant spiciness and rich grassy flavor, a great companion for both the rich flavor of the steak and the creamy mash. This steak dish was probably better than many of the steakhouses out there. Drink: I am more of a whiskey guy, but I asked the staff to recommend a house red wine to go with my steak. A bit less sweet than I had desired, but very complex flavor of toasted oak, leather, pepper, pear, orange peel, and a bit of subtle sweetness of ripe red grapes or grape juice. Very nice. Dessert: house tiramisu. A bit on the sweet side, but the texture was silky smooth, and the melted black chocolate on plate provided yet another layer of appetizing flavor. Overall 5 stars. Worth every cent of the money, and the high rating on Yelp is well deserved. read more

We all had an amazing meal at Bistro 53. Our party of 4 adults and 2 kids stopped by late on a Saturday night, and they were able to accommodate us quickly. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The menu had many appealing appetizer and main course options, with a great wine selection too. The restaurant had trendy decor with an upscale ambiance. We ordered the carpaccio, mushroom risotto, branzino with mash potatoes, and shrimp pasta (I cannot remember the exact name of this dish), and they were all phenomenal. Our kids devoured their pasta with butter and parmesan cheese, and even asked to return the next day. Entree prices generally ranged from $25-30, but the quality and flavors of the meals were well worth it. The portions were large too. This is a great place for a date night or dinner and drinks with friends. Everyone in our party highly recommends Bistro 53! read more

This was a very unexpected surprise ! The food blew us away, every dish we had made us want to try more. The risotto was better than any Michelin star restaurant that I have been to, even in Italy . The rib eye steak was perfectly cooked and tasted like it just came off the field, it blew me way ! To the point that we will be flying back to Ireland just to eat here. Find out the quickest route to Maynooth and make the journey to Bistro 53, its a little place at the end of the Main St and ill be honest, it was the value of the lunch menu that caught my eye as I strolled through the town. 11.95 for two courses??!!....Who could turn that down? The sun was shining and i took advantage of one of the tables outside ,as i sat down, I immediately noticed the black serviette soaked in water and carefully and tastefully placed in the ash tray . When you see little touches like that, one looks forward to the next. No sooner had we been welcomed and sat down by our waiter, two mint infused chilled glasses of water were placed in front of us by another staff member, such fluidity by the staff was ever present throughout the lunch. The dishes ordered for the table were the Caprese Salad, Chicken Wings and Fettuccine with Chicken and Wild Mushroom sauce. The Caprese salad was beautifully presented and the simple flavours of the dish each stood out. Chicken wings can often be over complicated, under seasoned or over dressed, these were perfect, char-grilled i believe and full wings aswell, the spice slowly enveloped your mouth with the perfect balance of heat, an outstanding example of how wings showed be done. The arrival of the main course was perfectly timed , a deep dished pasta bowl filled with Fettuccine, Grilled Chicken, a Wild Mushroom sauce and finished with fresh parsley. You could pay 15.00 on South William St for this dish alone or make a day out of it in Maynooth for half the price. We decided to try Bistro 53 last night for the first time. With all of the 5 star reviews we were all very excited but unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. Not only were we rushed through each of our courses, the food was cold and very bland. We each ordered different dishes for starters and mains, and it appeared that the same sauce was used on all of our mains (which were all fish dishes). My muscles and prawns were stone cold and the sauce was flavourless. The desserts were typical of those that were pre-bought and cut in house, which is fine but not what we expected. The staff were lovely (nearly overly attentive) and I will say that the starters that we had were nice. None of our table will be rushing back. read more

Another one of Maynooth's great restaurants. Bistro 53 specialise in Italian and seafood dishes, as well as amazing desserts. I don't know what it is about the town, but everywhere seems to take their cakes extra-seriously! I really enjoyed the seafood risotto and black pudding starter. Finally I went to Bistro 53! Been hoping to go for a while now :D It was midday and my colleagues and I went for the 2 course lunch menu at just over 11 euro a head, which seemed like a reasonable price considering this place has a fine dining feel to it. Having methodically thought about every option on the menu I finally decided to go for the mussels for starters and the salmon. Usually I don't go for salmon as it just seems a little typical and lacklustre but oh MY MY this was the nicest salmon ever. With its succulent meat and the crispy skin on top and not to mention that fantastic sauce that I was hoping would never end. The mussels were equally as scrumptious, perfectly marinated and with a touch of chili that just set the taste buds off. You know I'd never match mussels and chili but there ya go! A colleague chose the spicy chicken wings with sweet chili sauce and chicken for main. Both of these dishes did indeed look nice but size-wise were a little small. I was delighted with my choice in the end! Before I finish I'd also like to mention that the overall attention to detail was very much appreciated here and the staff were friendly, attentive and conversational. Went there for lunch which is a great deal. An app and a course for 11 euros. I had the mussels to start with that were good and a meal in itself. Then had the chicken mushroom pasta that was delicious. My wife got the pork belly that was good as well. Only disappointment was the fish course that our friend got. It was supposed to be snapper but was very thin, dry and no meat left once you removed the skin. Other than that the restaurant has a great atmosphere with good service. read more

A treasure of a place in the lovely town of Maynooth. I enjoyed amazing crab claws as a starter. My two friends had crab claws and beef Carpacchio which they also were pleased with. For a main, I indulged in the suckling pork which was one of the nicest pork dishes I've ever experienced. Tiramisu topped off the night! The service was attentive, the atmosphere a good balance between relaxed and lively and the food excellent. At €70 pp it wasn't cheap but with starter, main, 2 glasses of wine and dessert it was expected. We will return! read more

Really good restaurant in the heart of Maynooth, modern and comfortable interior (and exterior) with wonderful ambiance and atmosphere. We enjoyed a really good meal there on Saturday night last, arriving at 6.30 pm so the place was buzzing with most tables occupied - I'm guessing now, but probably most of those were availing of the early bird menu which ceased at 6.00 pm. We found the service was excellent, but believe it or not this is where it lets them down as they were over attentive and rushed us through each course, clearing our plates as soon as we had the last morsel eaten! It was rather annoying that we had at least three different waiting staff ask us if we were ready to order while we were still pondering the menu and settling in. The food was pretty good, we enjoyed a shared starter of goats cheese, a shared desert of 'death by chocolate' cake, and mains of rib steak and tagliatellie with seafood which I felt it was over salted and masked the lovely delicate sauce served with it! As I said great restaurant with lovely atmosphere, but I would consider it very pricy for the dinner menu - next time I'll go for the 'early bird' option I think! read more
