This place has good reviews and for good reason! I was looking for a simple French meal (we walked across the bridge from Ottawa) and I was not disappointed here! I was immediately drawn to the Donald Duck dish (duck breast) and it was delicious. I wish there was more on the half size plate, because I finished it so fast. The duck was juicy and had a perfect amount of fat on it. And the veggies & garnishes were a great addition to the meal! Our server was very kind and helpful, and we loved the vibe of the place (inside and out). It's also located on a really cute street that's only for pedestrians! When our cousin was visiting from out of town, and we were looking for a restaurant to take him to, we settled on the Bistro CoqLicorne because of the glowing reviews we saw on Yelp. Based on those reviews, we also called ahead to make a reservation. The reservation was actually a really good idea, because that place was popular. CoqLicorne is situated on Laval Street in Hull. The street is lit up beautifully with string lights, and the restaurant is in a sweet, old brick house. It is a small restaurant. The parking situation is hit-or-miss. You can get street parking, or there is a pay-and-display lot right across the street from the restaurant. We ended up paying $5 for the parking. The menu is unique, and all the items have fun names. Do you think I can remember the name of the thing I ordered? No. But it was salmon on a bed of creamy rice, and it was delicious as heck. You can order large or small dishes of most menu items. My husband ordered two small plates: fried duck dumplings, and spare rib. He loved his food. Our cousin ordered a burger with fries and salad, and he was pleased as well. We were four people. Four meals, two beers, a pop, and a lemonade came out to $145 plus tip. I knocked off a star because the service was pretty slow, but I would for sure visit this restaurant again! read more

The food is amazing and the restaurant is quite popular. You need to make a reservation to be guaranteed a seat because I have seen people turned away at 6. Their food ranges from burgers to tapas. My husband and I chose to do the Tapas route and thought the dishes were unique and tasty. It's one of the better French Onion soups I've had in awhile and their fish beignet is delicious. It's too bad that I have to give a mediocre review because the food was truly delicious. But, food isn't everything! The service was painfully slow and when the server did come to our table (we had to wave her over at least two times to order or ask for our bill), the restaurant didn't have half of what we intended to order. They didn't have bar ingredients for standard mixed drinks and they lacked a wine by the glass list. It was a serious hassle to order our drinks. Because of the service, we decided to order everything at the same time, but they took this to mean that we wanted everything delivered at the same time. So we didn't get appetizers....we just had a very full table of sides and entrees. The quality of food was solid. My boyfriend got the Miss Piggy, which he said was "7/10" because flavour and texture were good but it didn't blow his mind. I got the Jiminy Croquete and thought it was 10/10. The salad was so savoury and satisfying with candied nuts, blue cheese, arugula and apples. The croquette with duck in it was such a solid match with the salad. It had a thanksgiving comforting flavour to it. Finally, there was a massive lineup for the bathroom the whole evening. No thanks! Overall, good food but with an unfortunately busy/preoccupied space and poor service. Wouldn't return because of how irritating it was to sit through. read more

We biked across the river for brunch and stopped at Bistro CoqLicorne. Great ambience and friendly staff. My wife had the omelette which was great and I had the poached eggs. Went there because of the high ratings. The place is small and very cozy. You need to make a reservation or you can try for the bar. 4 of us got lucky at the bar. The service was good but very slow. The kitchen could not keep up with the volume. All of our dishes came out at different times. I tried a few things and nothing blew me away. The one thing that was great was the french onion soup, but be careful, it has nuts. The tacos were just OK (fell apart) and the duck was a bit chewy, but tasted great. All in all an OK experience. We went to the Canadian Museum of History, and our kids were hungry and tired by 4 pm, so we decided to stop off some place close before heading back to our hotel. It was a great choice. The service was great. My 4 year old wanted scrambled eggs, which they made even though they weren't on the menu. They also brought out coloring books and special kid glasses. Besides all of the great service, the food was excellent. We got a variety of tapas, from seared duck breast to Pork tacos with homemade onion confit to spiced lentils with yogurt and naan - everything was excellent. Great little bistro. The food is delicious, the ambiance is cozy and personal. The terrace is very well placed. You forget for a minute that you are beside a busy street in the heart of hull. This restaurant is oppened not so long ago and I hope, is doing very well. The only thing I could say that didn't please me is that the staff was a little miss informed about certain things but its propably their first restaurant and they also seem quite young so all is forgiven. We came here after reading other reviews since we were staying at hotel nearby. You can't judge the food from the exterior or interior of this establishment. The duck confit with cardamom puree was so delicious - the puree was a perfect compliment to the duck. My kids had grilled cheese made with an artisanal bread, with a side of Caesar salad and fries. The fries were crispy, very tasty, and not greasy. It was an expensive lunch - a nice and delicious treat though! read more
