It was my father in laws birthday and he chose this restaurant, we actually chose this restaurant…read morethe previous year but there are two main Chinese restaurants in the area, we got the wrong one and booked for there instead.. I'm so glad we decided to return and try this one out. It's quite a big place and can been seen from the roundabout.. of course we drove straight past it though because you come off the roundabout and the turning in is literally the first immediate right. When we go anywhere new we normally try the set menu to get a good idea of the food in the place and then if it's good we come back and try different dishes the next time.. also we tend to gauge a good Chinese restaurant on the hot and sour soup.. this was a good one. We had a mixed platter for the second course (ribs, prawn toast, spring roll and a kinda curry samosa) they all tasted wonderful. Then for the main course we got steak in a fruit sauce, beef in chilli sauce and king prawn massaman curry.. which again was great.. they are big portion sizes too so we didn't get chance to sample a desert. The service was excellent too.. we got a young woman as our waitress and she was delightful.. she engaged with us, was funny and attentive to our needs.. also we weren't rushed in anyway either.. they were quite happy for us to chat away at our hearts content even though it was getting close to their closing time. Suffice to say we left a tip and me and the other half already have plans to return for our date night.. even though it's a good half hour drive from our house.

All the apps were good but the spring rolls and Samosas were a stand out. The Phad Thai was excellent. Not dry like most places serve it, but saucy and full of flavor. The servers were all just lovely. Food was slow coming out but it was very busy and in the peak season so to be expected. It's in an old converted church and the interior is very nicely decorated. Bright vibrant colors match really well.

Full disclosure, I wanted to hate this place. It took a while for the hostess to seat us because he was busy chitchatting instead of taking care of people in line. Also, they kind of scoffed when we said we didn't have a reservation even though the place was half full. Then, looking at the menu, the food doesn't come with rice or noodle, and they charge a whopping 2.95 pounds for plain jasmine rice. I was like -.- But DANG their food is amazing! I was completely blown away. Possibly the best Thai food I've ever had outside of Thailand. Who would have thought a restaurant in a little English village would be one of the best Thai food experiences I've ever had. We got the chicken Phad Krapow and the land stir fry. The flavors on these dishes were absolutely perfect. We cleaned the plates! Highly recommend. If this place were in Arlington VA, they would probably know my name and make my food as soon as I walk in the door!

Very impressed…read more We went last night after having various friends recommend the place. Can't fault it! Excellent food and drink. Reasonably priced. Very high standard of presentation throughout. Friendly and interested staff. Nice atmosphere and busy on a Saturday night (best to book) Honestly don't think it could have been any better. We will be going again.

Having passed this place many times, I called in for a meal last night…read more What a gem !. Ordered a pint of Taylors Best (Mary Jane and others also available). Was shown to a table, and ordered to start 'Confit duck and peanut spring rolls with a plum chutney' (£6.95) followed by one of their fish specials form the blackboard 'Salmon and Sea Bass fillets with asparagus and bearnaise sauce' (one of the more expensive options at £16.95). Waitress came with bread, two nice thick pieces of rustic bread, one white one brown, and both butter and the olive oil /balsamic vinegar. Whe the spring rolls came , there were four, rather over the top, as for a starter two would have been sufficient, and with a pile of crisp salad and the plum dressing as well. Delicious, I had no problem eating all four. The fish main was also a delight, two small fillets each of sea bass and salmon, with a couple of asparagus spears, and some bearnaise sauce in a pot. A side dish of carrots and broccoli also presented. Thoroughly enjoyable. Bill £26.95. It was as I was paying that I realised that the Wheatley was also residential. Readers of my reviews will know I stay in the area two nights nearly every week (Mainly at Chevin Country Park Hotel Otley, or Rombalds in Ilkley or occasionally Harrgate or Knaresborough, see my reviews of these hotels) However when I asked about room rates, £80 B & B for a single to me is too much for what is essentially a pub. (I pay £70 at the Chevin) I am sure the rooms will be clean and well appointed, but I would have expcted them to be maybe £60-65 for a single. I am awarding 5 stars for the meal, but I suspect that had I stayed there, maybe only 4 stars as a hotel because of the price. Within the last few weeks I now found and reviewed three pubs in the area with really good food., the other two being the The Black Horse at Askwith and the Fox at Menston. I now have a quandary which to go back to !
