The Caladium Arts and Crafts Co-Op is a non profit that was created in 1992 by three Lake Placid Artists: Carol Mills, Harriet Porter, and Suellen Robinson. The ladies wanted to create a place for local artists and crafters to display and market their creations to the public. The store is like Etsy shop that you can walk around in person. Artists join the co-op so they can sell their creations. There are approximately 50 artists selling painted furniture, crochet blankets, tote bags, wreaths, trinket boxes, tea towels, note cards, jewelry, aprons, glasses, holiday decorations, faux floral arrangements, Christmas ornaments, art work for the wall, and more. I especially loved the delicate caladium earrings which were perfect for the festival. Everyone who was working was so kind and warm to me and the prices were more than fair for such skilled handiwork in the mediums of wood, textiles, glass, canvas, and metal. In addition to selling the work of artists, the co-op also has a room in the back that offers a variety of classes. You can view the current offerings on Facebook. A recent project was a rope bowl. If I lived locally I would be a regular visitor to this inspirational and welcoming space.

Oak Street Treasures is part of the approximately 20 antique stores on and around Oak Street in…read morehistoric downtown Arcadia. Arcadia burned down in a fire in 1905 so most of the buildings in the downtown were built after then. This three story building was built by two fraternal organizations, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) and the Woodmen of the World (WOW) in 1914. In subsequent years the building was the Gordon Hotel, the Southland Hotel, the Elks Club, and apartments. The first floor is now an antique store. Inside is a treasure trove of antiques. Room after room of household goods, furniture, bric-a-brac, art, jewelry, clothing, and all kinds of odds and ends. This store seemed to have more dolls than some of the others I visited. I am not knowledgeable about antiques so If I see something I like I check the prices on eBay. If you like antiques it is well worth the time to come to Arcadia especially on the fourth Sunday of the month when all of the shops set up tables outside.

Just had a load of crushed shell delivered to my residence yesterday morning…read more The salesman at your location off Gasparilla road was great and helpful as always. Knowledgeable and sharp about products. The lady that called in the morning to let me know the load would be delivered was cordial and great on the phone... Your driver , delivery man had an attitude as soon as soon as l said hello. He gave me grief on not answering my phone-several times. I asked him what the # was, he was correct with the # and l said call me... The phone immediately rang. I received the shell and all was good, l believe this gentleman needs some instruction on customer relations and a common thank you would be a nice addition in completing the job as well...
