From the very beginning, she welcomed not just my children, but me as a mother too. She created a space where my kids could grow, learn, and thrive. She reassured me so I could feel at peace knowing they were safe, nurtured, and loved. Nana BJ pours her heart into every child she cares for. She has a beautiful balance of structure and tenderness, and her passion for early childhood development is unmatched. Whether it was learning activities, playtime, or daily routines, my children were constantly growing socially, emotionally, and academically. My son has been going here going on 2 years now, atmosphere and staff is 10/10! Place is always well kept and clean Ms. BJ runs a tight ship with a big heart. She really shows so much love for these kids and they all seem to respect and love her as well. Always alot of warm good vibes and professionalism from the staff. This review is LONG overdue! My daughter started with Nana BJ or Ms Bettye when she was only 6 months old and "graduated" to big kid school just a few months ago but it feels like forever because we miss her so much! She truly has become family over the years and always goes the extra mile for her "kids". It was really hard finding someone to trust with our tiny baby and I cannot express how happy we were to find Ms Bettye. During our 1st encounter it was like catching up with an old friend and I knew this is where we belonged. I am tearing up writing this because of the impact she has made on our family, its truly immeasurable. We also recommended her to our friends and family and had 3 kids join us and they all get that Nana BJ influence now as well! At drop off you can smell the homemade food cooking which was a huge bonus not having to worry about meals, she makes sure everyone is eating and eating well. The day is very structured and she really makes sure everyone is learning and having fun in a safe way. Now that my daughter is in big school, she is extremely advanced compared to her peers. She has been writing her own name and counting to 100 since she had just turned 3. I would recommend Bj and the Bears to anyone looking for a safe, loving bonus family to care for their child! I have four kids and all of them went to BJ and the Bears. My first baby started in 2014 and my last baby finished in 2024. All of the kids loved their experiences with Ms. Bettye and still have fond memories of their time at BJ and the Bears. Even when my last baby was there, my older kids would always get out of the car to say hi to Ms. Bettye when I went in to pick up their little sister in the afternoons. Ms. Bettye knows how to work with all kinds of kids and she has great systems to make sure the day runs smoothly. The kids have time for learning, time for play, time for rest, and when the weather allows it, time for playing outside. The kids also got delicious and nourishing meals while they were there. Not only was it great to not have to pack lunches everyday, it was even better knowing that my children were getting a variety of healthy and hearty food to help expand their palate for flavors and textures. I'm fortunate that I was able to breastfeed all of my babies and Ms. Bettye was great at making sure they got their pumped breastmilk throughout the day. I also can't take any credit for potty training any of them because Ms. Bettye did all of the potty training. She also helped my youngest stop sucking her thumb during the day. We're still struggling with nighttime thumb sucking, but that's because I don't have Ms. Bettye's magic touch. BJ and the Bears is also open throughout the year, with Ms. Bettye only taking time off a a couple of weeks a year around the holidays and her birthday. She does provide the days off for the whole year at the beginning of the year so that families can plan accordingly. Finally, towards the end of our time with Ms. Bettye, my mother passed away and my husband and I separated. As the demands of single parenting settled in, Ms. Bettye was incredibly supportive. A couple times I needed to drop the baby off early or pick her up late and with some advanced notice, Ms. Bettye always found a way to accommodate my needs. Once, she had the space to allow my other daughter to come for a day when I had no one else to watch her. Over the course of a decade she became more than a daycare provider, she became an integral part of my village. I'm so grateful that she helped me raise my kids and I would encourage anyone to consider sending their kids to BJ and the Bears. As soon as you walk in you'll see the imaginative environment that she's cultivated and you'll smell the delicious food that she's prepared, and you'll understand why Ms. Bettye is a pillar of our community. read more

Ms.Bettye or Nana BJ as we call her is a Godsend. She started caring for Ava when she just turned 5 months. Ava is 15 months today. As a first time mom my hubby and I struggled finding a place and a person that felt like home. As soon as we walked in we knew we found the right place. We were greeted by Bettye's warm smile, calming atmosphere, clean facility and happy children. I was still pregnant at the time and was trying to get a head start on finding daycare for Ava. And this has been the perfect fit. Ms. Bettye keeps a clean space, plenty of new toys and just an all around caring environment. You can tell Nana BJ really loves what she does. This daycare is not just a daycare. They have a lot of curricular activities for your child to use on a daily basis. My son learned how to communicate better as well as counting and a lot of other things Its been almost 12 years since he was there but he loved Ms Bettye . Not to mention the cute classroom setting. Best learning experience ever but so much more importantly mama had peace of mind. If they had reviews 30 years ago I could have posted back then. Yes Betty has taken care of my children, my niece and now the next generations. Our true Go to family day care. What I appreciated the most was going to work with peace of mind that my children were in a safe and loving environment. My son went to Ms BJs about 9 years ago before Kindergarten. He is a very shy boy and what has struck me is her impact on him. He bugged incessantly for a few weeks to visit her and I took him. This is a wonderful daycare. We first looked at 2 different daycares in Glen Cove where we live, but the moment we walked into BJ and the Bears we knew that's where we wanted our little girl to go.
