I was visiting Charlotte for a long weekend and was excited to try out some new to me fitness studios. I found this studio through the ClassPass app and signed up for a BK Signature Reformer 1 class a couple days in advance of when it was scheduled. I love Pilates and have taken upwards of 100 Pilates classes on a reformer from a variety of studios, including Solidcore, JetSet, Club Pilates, and multiple local studios both in Philadelphia where I live and while traveling. I've also taken multiple classes with Ellie Herman at her studio near my home. Ellie is a well-known Pilates instructor who has trained many, many other instructors and even has Pilates equipment she designed named after her. I don't say this to brag, but to make it clear that I'm not a beginner and I know my way around a variety of reformer styles. In fact I've taken many classes on reformers in the exact same style as those in the photos BK Pilates has on their website. I'm also very diligent about reading policies and pre-class communications when I visit a new studio. And this is what BK Pilates stated in my booking confirmation e-mail: How to prepare: *Grip-socks required for class. Please alert the teacher if you have never been to a pilates class before or on any pilates equipment. *Please arrive early to class. Late more than 5 minutes not accepted into class. If new, latecomers will not be accepted into class. *If you are brand new to pilates this is NOT the class for you. Students are asked to take an introductory privates session to understand how to use the apparatuses and understand pilates and breath work. Please call the studio to set this introduction up. We will ask you about your experience when you walk in the door to understand your body further. This class is for beginners not novices. Based on that, I did not believe I had to take the introductory class since I am neither a novice nor a beginner and expected I would have a conversation with the instructor when I arrived to let her know my level of experience. Without reaching out to me in any way to have any type of conversation about my experience level though, the studio just cancelled my reservation. And they did so only an hour before the class was scheduled to start when I was heading out the door, grip socks in hand to get there early, as instructed. It was extremely disappointing, and left me with no time to find an alternate class at another studio that day. Based on how my reservation was handled and other reviews I've read, it just seems like this studio is really unwelcoming to new people and they really just want you to spend the $75 on their intro session whether you need an intro session or not. They really should just call it what it is - a $75 fee to come to the studio. Whether you're local or just visiting, there are plenty of options for Pilates reformer classes in Charlotte that will welcome you to a group class without requiring an exorbitant fee for a private intro class first. Just skip this studio and take your business elsewhere. read more

The class was fun and not difficult for our girls who were new to Pilates and our more seasoned ladies thought it was great as well. My review from Google: I had a class about a week ago with Faith. She's a very sweet girl, and I have no qualms about her. You can tell she was simply doing as instructed. Now the studio and the owner on the other hand.....let's talk about it. Firstly, when I came in and checked in, I was forced to pay for these overpriced socks that are supposed to support you but really do nothing. Please do not let them lie to you, you do not NEED grippy socks to use the reformer. You can do it barefoot. This isn't my first rodeo with Pilates, so I just observed to see what they were telling people, and the fact that they would force people to purchase something when there was no disclaimer that we'd have to purchase socks (it simply said socks HIGHLY recommended) was extremely off putting. Next, they do not do ANY type of safety tutorial. No hello, welcome to class, here's what we're doing today, They just start class. The instructor gave minimal demonstrations, we weren't informed on how to use and change the springs, which I later found out is due to the studio forcing you to have a private lesson if you buy directly through them before they allow you in a group class. Please do not let this studio lie to you and take your money. You don't need a private lesson first, and there are so many other amazing studios in Charlotte where you'll receive quality instruction for much less, you won't be scammed out of extra money, and you won't be treated like you're just another dollar to the studio. This studio was underwhelming, overpriced, and the workout was bland. No culture or community whatsoever! I also want to add, after posting my review on Google, the owner replied with no acknowledgement of what was actually said, and even went on to say "Our policies are in place for everyone even if you personally feel they aren't necessary". Wish I would've gotten the memo on the grippy socks so I didn't waste my time. Also that "many studios in Charlotte require a private lesson". Very untrue as I've visited many studios around Charlotte. This owner is a liar and obviously wants to grift extra money from consumers. Don't waste your time with a studio where the owner isn't even willing to admit their faults! There is no disclaimer saying grippy socks are REQUIRED anywhere on the site and via Class Pass. Only that it's highly recommended. And if they require a private lesson first, they should get off of ClassPass again taking peoples money without giving proper and adequate service. This establishment screens their calls. Tried to call to take a forced introduction class (you cannot sign up online or take a class without doing this class first) and was rerouted to a google voice number. You have to state your name before knowing if you have the right place. Then silence while the establishment DECIDES to take your call or not. Good luck if you get lost on the way to a class! The voicemail greeting doesn't even state you've called BK Pilates. The owner called me back to see what I needed, without introducing herself or mentioned what company she was calling from. I had to ask her, as if I was the one in customer service! Having a google number instead of a business line creates all sorts of unwelcome/selective/exclusive vibes from the jump and a really weird customer "experience". read more

I called to inquire politely about signing up. The owner was very rude and unprofessional right away. She launched in a defensive speech about needing to book $75 introductory class for my own "safety". When I asked about what the prices for the classes would be after the introductory class, she was not forthcoming with pricing for classes and required multiple probing questions to provide information. She also told me I may not be "approved" to come to beginner classes based on my private lesson. Why would I pay for a private session if the teachers are not committed to helping me learn how to do pilates? Isn't that what we pay a class fee for...to learn?! Most studios offer a free class as your first class because they want you to like their studio and come back. I was hoping to find a judgement free exercise place where all body types and ability levels would be accepted. This is not the place. Keep looking! read more

I was very excited about trying this place. I've been doing reformer Pilates for 7 years and was looking for a studio when I moved to Charlotte from Houston in March. I was so excited when I found this studio so close to me and so I bought the new customer 3 pack so I could try it out. The studio was supposed to be opening that week for live classes but the opening was postponed due to covid and the classes I scheduled were cancelled. 2 months later I go to check on the studios opening and to my surprise it is open. I had signed up for their email updates but never got an update. I went online to schedule a class but the 3 classes I purchased showed expired. I contacted the studio to see what was going on and was informed that the studio had been open for 1 1/2 months and that I couldn't use the classes because they they expire 30 days from the date of purchase and there were no exceptions, even if the studio was closed for part of that time. I understand many businesses are struggling right now and the need for policies and rules for businesses but this was a big disappointment for me. I just wanted to take their reformer classes. COVID has added complications to most people's lives and forced everyone to be a little more flexible but apparently not this studio. I wasn't trying to get anything for free and I was just hoping to be able to use the classes I purchased. I didn't no show for any classes, didn't receive an email saying they were opening, etc. It's very disappointing that this NY based chain came into Charlotte, sure smaller city, but doesn't see the importance of placing the same value of community as other local studios. Unfriendly, rude not flexible at all. I overslept for my first intro class by 10 min by accident due to working the night before, I try to reschedule immediately and they told me i could but i would have to repay in full price $75 but they did not disclose this information during my booking. In no way shape or form was I told my card would be charged in full if i didnt cancel within 24hrs. The only thing i was told was grippy socks was a necessity! I now know this is a thing because the next studio I went to DID disclose the information when I booked with them. It was not my intention to oversleep I was jus very tired from work and they were very impersonable and rude. It was only an introduction I was trying out the studio! If this is how they treat people the first time I cant imagine moving forward! I am now at a better Pilates studio with personable staff that care about their people!! read more

I bought a new member package and booked my first class a few days in advance. Was very excited to try until I received a text message about an hour and a half before my first class stating that I was not allowed to go to that first class (or any classes that I had already bought) until I booked a $55 private lesson. I booked the lesson and went anyways because I was very much interested in learning Pilates. After my lesson I went to my first class where the instructor stopped mid-class to make one of the members buy a new pair of $10 socks because she "wasn't wearing the right kind." My second class I showed up at 6:03pm due to unforeseen circumstances (class started at 6) and was reprimanded and called out by the instructor in front of the whole class for a few good minutes. It made for a really uncomfortable class and came off as extremely rude and unprofessional especially to a paying customer. The building is very nice but there have been issues with all 3 of my visits here. I was considering buying a bigger package but unfortunately won't be returning due to the bizarreness of my last two visits. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more
