Dr. Kletz is great. Medical assistants great. Front desk unfortunately consistently rude.

I've been going to Dr. Kletz for several years to help manage food and seasonal allergies. I never come out of my appointments feeling better or reassured. Before I have a chance to finish a question, he cuts me off with short answers and a condescending tone. He has poor interpersonal/communication skills and lacks the patience and care I would expect from my doctor. It always feels rushed. When I missed several months of allergy shots because of a busy period in my life, he made me feel guilty for not keeping up with it. His office is always crowded and uncomfortable. Nice practice, but highly unethical. I moved to DC from Illinois and needed a new allergist. I had my immunology vile sent from my old allergist to Black and Kletz to continue treatment, but they refused to continue administering my shots. So they had me purchase new vials for $~2,800. I purchased the new vials and they failed to administer them to me. I moved back to Illinois and they refused to send them to me. They're my vials, but they won't give them to me. And they never informed me that I needed pre-approval of these vials before I purchased them. So I purchased them, and then they said my insurance won't cover it. Thanks for the heads up on the pre-approval, Doc! And they REALLY want their money. Really badly. Harassing phone calls, threatening letters, etc. I really think someone should complain to the medical boards about this practice. Does anyone know where I can go to file a complaint for deceptive practices? So...this was a $2,800 lesson. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere to spend this kind of money. They have a communication problem - they don't communicate with their patients about what treatment they're administering. Avoid at all costs. read more

My severe environmental allergies have improved greatly since starting allergy shots at this practice. I used to have to make many lifestyle adjustments, including being unable to be in some indoor environments due to severe mold allergies, but after a year of shots, I have been able to greatly reduce those adjustments and my use of antihistamines. I know responses to allergy shots vary on an individual basis, but I believe I was able to see significant improvement very fast due to the schedule on which I was allowed to do shots. At two other practices, I would have been allowed to get shots only once a week. At this practice, I am able to go in twice a week. The doctor is diligent with follow-up and retesting to adjust doses. I have also found the nursing and administrative to be smart, friendly, and organized. They are competent with administering the shots and make it as quick and painless as possible. The Tyson's Corner location is more relaxing than the DC location, mostly due to a bigger waiting room. The early Thursday hours (7 am) at the Tyson's location are also very convenient. The longest I've waited for shots was 30 minutes when the practice was down a nurse, but it's usually closer to 10 minutes. I have experienced much longer times at other practices. read more

As someone with allergies, I wanted to get new allergy tests since it had been over a decade wince getting tested. I told Dr. Kletz I had food allergies and wanted to get tested again and he proceeds to have a nurse administer an environmental allergy test -- not food. I asked to have a food allergy test and was told I would have to make another appointment (so I can be charged again). Very pushy about wanting you to get regular allergy shots (again, so they can charge you). After each visit, I asked how much the total amount due was and was told I don't owe anything and that my insurance was handling it. Then I receive a surprise bill after the fifth visit! This is not the quality of care I am used to receiving and don't like when doctors partake in surprise billing. I will never be back. read more

I saw Dr. Kletz for what I thought sounded like exercise induced asthma. In addition to other issues like crowded waiting rooms, the doctor was extremely dismissive and did not communicate well. When I went in for my first appointment, I was instantly give a full battery of allergy tests - no explanation, wasn't warned, just started being poked. The person who did the tests did explain throughout the process. I was lucky because I knew my insurance would cover anything that happened in the doctor's office. If I had worse insurance, I would have been worried about all the charges I was collecting. The doctor spoke to me for as little as possible and otherwise I was just waiting for a variety of nurses or other people to come through. He prescribed me the general battery of medication and an inhaler. I went in for a follow up and reported no improvements. I brought in an old CT scan that I remembered that indicated a foreign object in my nose. The doctor REFUSED to look at it and made me read a technical report out loud - this was condescending and humiliating as I tripped over medical terms. To top it off, at the end he said "so what do you want? Surgery?!" I told him that I felt terrible and if it would help, yes, I would be happy to schedule for a surgery. He prescribed more medications without discussing what they were supposed to do or which of my symptoms they would relieve. I later went to see an ENT who indicated that the foul smell coming from my nose and trouble breathing was likely due to this foreign object in my nose. We scheduled for a surgery, she took it out - turns out it was a calcified bay leaf. I feel so much better. I understand that the patient is NOT always right and that's why I went to see a specialist like Dr. Kletz. However, I DO expect that the doctor will listen to my concerns and at least say "I see why that's a concern. I don't think it's the primary issue because x and y. We should try z first because it's less invasive." But I got made fun of. This is NOT how doctors that we trust should treat us. read more

I visited this practice a couple of times about a year ago and all went well but I reached out today needing a letter or proof that I have asthma so that I could get a covid-19 vaccine and Dr. Gondi wouldn't do it!! He wanted to schedule an office visit for me (which requires me to pay them money) and I said no. Unreal..... extremely disappointed in this practice. Everyone knows asthma doesn't just go away especially after a year. read more

I've been a patient at Black & Kletz Allergy for almost 20 yrs at both the DC and Tysons locations. Dr Kletz was very upfront from the beginning that my allergies may take some time to improve given their severity. Key is asking questions as well as following directions. I've had allergies my entire life and he was the first to get them under control. Getting shots is part of my weekly / monthly schedule to ensure that I can enjoy the outdoors. He also thinks outside of the box when trying to diagnose an issue. Several years ago I started having hives out of season and despite the shots. Turns out his thinking outside the box caught a medical issue at the very early stages. In addition, the staff is wonderful. From the front desk to the nurses and billing. I'm probably biased since I've been a patient for so long and have gotten to know them over the years. read more

He knows how to ask all the right questions to determine my symptoms, and is always able to adjust my serum as needed to account for changing conditions. It has been almost 4 years since my child was seen at this practice. I think they did a good job helping with his allergies. I do have an issue with their billing practices. My insurance didn't pay the entire amount and after 90 days they sent me to collections for a token amount of money. There was no communication after 90 so I assumed the insurance paid. 4 years later I found out it was in collections when I pulled my credit report. I paid the bill as soon as I learned I owed them money. I can't say they are unethical because it is all legal, however, in today's complicated world with health insurance it is certainly not a friendly way to do business. I expect my doctors to be friendly, I will not go back to them. read more

I have suffered with pretty bad allergies in the spring and some in the fall - primarily tree pollen and grass pollen - since I was 17. I just turned 60 earlier this year. I've taken everything over the counter for years. I was up to two Pseudafed, Zyrtec, Flonase, and having to wash my eyes out several times a day last year - and was still miserable from April thru June and then September. Each year I wondered if i had COPD or something because it felt like someone was standing on my chest. My head and sinuses were full of gunk every year. A friend at my office said she went on allergy shots and that it helped. I figured after all this time, it was worth a shot. I figured I'd try it for one season and if I didn't think it was worth it - I'd go back to what I was doing. My friend recommended Dr. Kletz. I started seeing him in October i think, and started shots and building up to maintenance and then getting a shot once a week. I'm being honest - there has been an incredible difference. No more congestion, stuffed up gunk filled sinuses, and no feeling of someone standing on my chest. Yes, I still sneeze some, and my eyes itch a little when it is really bad out - but honestly - the allergy shots have been almost like a miracle. My allergies have gone from making me miserable for several moths each year to being a very slight inconvenience. The program and shot plan Dr. Kletz put me on has made a world of difference for me. I'll be staying on this shot program from now until the day they drop me off at the funeral home. I like dr kletz and the practice, but I am very disappointed how they are handling Covid-19 and am considering a new allergist. Their dc office is now only open once a week, so the waiting room is crowded, impossible to stay 6 feet apart, and you are stuck there for awhile. They are taking temperatures, but not before it is your turn to get shots (after you've been in waiting room for awhile). They have hand sanitizer, and have removed some chairs from the waiting room, but it's still too crowded there. Thumbs down. Please open more days and add plexiglass to waiting room between chairs and at reception. read more

Dr. Kletz treated me for approximately 5 years for severe allergies. His office was fantastic to deal with, as was he. From my very first call, I had a wonderful experience. The secretary scheduled my appointment quickly, and I was seen within a few days. Dr. Kletz explained the allergy shot process to me, and I began treatment. Over time, I saw tremendous gains! If there was an opportunity to leave 10 stars, I would do it! I went to the D.C. office mostly (although not always), often 1-2 times per month for shots. Thanks for your help. I went to this allergist to try to get advice before I go to asia as I have a shellfish allergy. Dr. Kletz basically ignored my reason for visiting, and kept shushing me when I asked for pills I could take while abroad to avoid an allergic reaction. He pressured me into taking an allergy test, even though I already know what I'm allergic to. The test ended up costing my insurance $1,000 which he did not warn me of or allude to when he was pressuring me into taking it. Clearly, I now know why he wanted me to take it so badly. Overally he was rude, did not listen to my questions, and prescribed me medicines I did not need. What a rip off!!!!!!! read more

Went in because I had a extreme allergic reaction to something I ate. Wanted only food testing. DR. Kletz wanted a blood test for peanuts which I was ok with. He did not say he wasn't going to test for any food until he got the blood test back. Nurse came in with a tray of pin test. Which after 10 pricks I found was for enviromental allergies. Also, why doesn't the office take blood for testing? Very inconvenient. Very pushy about regular shots too. Didnt even know what my problem was, but wanted me to come in fir shots! Bad communication all around. Now I have to take a day offto see another Dr. Wont go back to Black and Kletz. read more

He accessed my needs within a reasonable length of time and will help you try different things to meet your needs. I have not felt this good in ten years. I've been coming to Black & Kletz for a little over 2 years. Generally I've found them helpful and easy to deal with but after my last visit I decided to write a review. In general, the front desk staff and nurses are helpful and friendly. But unfortunately there is one nurse who is incredibly rude and downright mean sometimes. I've had this nurse a few times and she's been a little short and brisk. But this visit she was completely unprofessional. I went in for an allergy shot and was given inaccurate information from the front desk. As a result there was a mix up finding my vials. The situation was not my fault, it wasn't the front desk's fault, it wasn't the nurse's fault. Simply, there was a miscommunication. However, this nurse spent about 5 minutes scolding me in front of a waiting room full of other patients. She raised her voice to me which was completely unnecessary and inappropriate. I take time out of my busy work day and am spending money to get these shots. I can understand that the nurses are extremely busy and have several patients they are trying to juggle throughout the day. However, there should never be a reason for a nurse to yell at a patient as this nurse did to me. The location is convenient if you work on K St. But after my next round of shots is completed I plan on looking into other allergists downtown. If you decide to go here avoid the slightly older nurse with reddish hair. She is not a nice person. read more

It has taken them over a week to process my prescription request when I was told that they would turn it around within 24 hours. I've been suffering awful allergy symptoms as a result and will be traveling tomorrow. I think I will change doctors if I do not get my allergy meds soon. This is the worst specialist's office I have ever been to. If you are hoping to find an allergist that will give you shots from an outside doctor, do not come here. I have not had one easy experience because I am not their direct patient. They have rules that are not posted, nor will they be shared with you, about when they can give outside patients shots. I should have known from the first time I called and couldn't get a straight answer about what needed to be done to become a patient that this office was a mess. read more

I had been a patient with Black & Kletz for almost a year when I had a severe allergic reaction (hives from head to toe). I had never had hives and I wasn't sure what had caused the reaction. I called to get a fill-in appointment and got danced around on "if" they could fit me in, in the next two days because it wasn't that big of a deal. After finally getting a fill-in appointment and being seen, I left with an "it will get better, you just have to give your allergy meds time." Needless to say, it didn't. I went back and was told there was nothing they could do for me. I immediately walked to urgent care where I was seen immediately and given hydrocortisone shots, steroids, and a breathing treatment. Clearly, there was more they could do they just didn't care to help. Because Black & Kletz left me without treatment, and what started as a severe allergic reaction turned into a viral infection that eventually led to pneumonia. The way this practice treated me was absolutely unacceptable! It's sad that urgent care could better serve my allergies on my first day in the door, than my allergist of almost a year could. After this bad experience, I found another allergist. Trying to get my serum and medical records transferred over was like pulling teeth and nails. Each time I followed up and visited the office (minimum of 5 times) they kept pushing the need for me to be retested for allergies -- complete salesmen approach to healthcare. Finally, was able to rid Black & Kletz of my life. I love my new allergist who has helped me find the cause of the hives and a better treatment method for my allergies! No way would I recommend or let anyone I know go to Black & Kletz! read more

I went with a very specific request for help with a food allergy. Dr. Kletz was very friendly and helpful. He thoroughly addressed all of my questions in a patient manner. I had an allergy test scheduled for 9am and was not seen until 10am with no apology or explanation by either Dr. Gondi or his staff. I complained and my follow up was booked at 8:30am to ensure there would not be delays. His staff then cancelled the appointment and a few weeks later I was sent a bill for not showing up. Stay away from this place and go see a real allergist that cares about treating patients and puts them first. I came hear multiple times and got very rude treatment each time. They Nicole and dime patients and charge for the most simple requests. My final straw is when they tried to charge me $50 ($10 per page) for the doctor to sign release forms for me to have my shots delivered at my workplace. It would've taken him 30 seconds to sign it. Latrice picked up right away but asked if she could put me on hold. I appreciated that even though she was busy they picked up. I asked several questions regarding Dr Kletz specialty, insurance providers and availability. Latrice promptly answered my questions and I was happy to know that he could see me as early as the next day. I explained to Latrice that the reason I picked Dr Kletz was that I read on the website that he has a special interest in allergy induced hives which I suffer from. I really liked being able to get the information I needed right away and having a confirmation that my specific medical issue could be addressed. Dr. Kletz is the best allergist in the city. I had horrible allergies where every spring and fall I lived on allergy medication. I was either drowsy or hyper. As my allergies worsened with age, most months I was taking allergy medication. I could not be outside and spent all my time inside at work or the house. I finally decided to try an allergist and I started with Dr. Kletz over 27 years ago. I take one shot every four weeks and it is rare that I every have to take medicine. Rare meaning once a year. He modifies my serum every year to improve my reactions to trees and dust plus dogs. Try it, you'll love it! read more

Dr. Kletz has been my allergy doctor for over 15 years. The office is great when it comes to scheduling for testing and calling with reminders about your appointment. Getting the allergy shots has reduced how often I get a sinus infection. Big improvement in my quality of life here! read more
