Early on a Saturday night with my friend. Go downstairs to bar area. Maybe 1/5th full, max. About 1/2 of the actual bar is open. We are told by the apathetic hostess that the bar is reserved and we are made to sit in a clustered side area with tables. Everyone in the room was clearly angry about being treated similarly. I suppose they were hoping a cluster of women would come in so they could seat them at the bar. Very bizarre. Not recommended. Go elsewhere unless you're in the top 1% of genetic lottery winners who can get treated well at superficial bars like this. But even then, you should still go to a better bar. read more

If you like crafted cocktails especially Whiskey then come here! Plus they are fairly inexpensive! They also have a full menu offering food. I stuck to cocktails. Try this place it is amazing. I loved the dim lights the live piano player playing old Leonard Cohen songs.. You get that dungeon vibe in here sans the torture. This place can be a little hard to find because of the many tables that are out in the patio of a restaurant and the little gelato/ice cream stand that is also near the entrance to the Hotel U Prince. There is a sign that can be deceiving because you think that you are walking into another restaurant and hotel. Black Angel's is within the Hotel U Prince pin the basement and it is worth the search. I had this place bookmarked along with the Hemingway Bar another great local bar with amazing cocktails! I loved this place because it was not filled with tourist. Ni,in fact I think that I was the only tourist in here. What made life even simpler here was my horrible attempt at speck Czech was made easier when I found that the staff here all speak English! Their menu as well is also in English so you can get an idea of what their cocktails are like. They seriously impressed me. I felt like I was back home in some of my favorite bars. It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to an Old Fashion and a Whiskey Sour and they over exceeded what I had expected. They actually make a proper Whiskey Sour (with egg whites) may sound gross to some but it is amazing! They also have so many various bitters. Drinks here are fairy inexpensive as I mentioned earlier. For one Whiskey Sour it converted to $6.94 (USD) So, it is very easy to have more than one, a cocktail of this caliber in the states is easily $12 - $15. Now this place is also near the Astronomical Clock that you will find a crowd of tourist waiting before the clock strikes at the hour to see the little show. read more

I was with my Boyfriend in this Bar. We come from Berlin, were you can find a lot of Bars like this. We both are two professional Bartenders, so we were not amazed by the taste of the Drinks. But the presentation was very good. The Bar look like a very cool small Labyrinth there are tables everywhere, in every corner. we found a nice sit in the front of a nice wine and champagne shelf. We arrived and i got the first disappointment: photographing is not allowed. We are in the middle of the city, in the most touristic place, on holiday, in a cool place, and we can't make pictures. I love to make pictures and i was very disappointed. Well after we found a place, a young blond lady brought us the menu. Just one. We are two. Well we just looked together. The Menu was a very thick book. but only the half was printed, because they used a whole page just to put the title of the categories. so the menu contains maybe around 50 cocktails, and a few pages of wines and spirits, but it has some 200 pages. That was very annoying. In the Bar was a live piano act. The Piano player was very good, but it was to loud, i got headache. I asked to lower it but nothing really changed. Short time later another couple sat at the table next to us. They got just one menu too, so we were so kind to give them ours. Short time later the blond service girl runs through our room again and just take one menu away, so they have one menu left again, and that while they were looking for drinks! The people working there seemed to be very stressed, but the bar wasn't full at all. They were just running through the place all the time, and did not really care about the guests. ANSWER to the comment: You don't have to explain the concept of the bar. My boyfriend is a Barchef of a bar almost exactly like this. We know everything about this time and this kind of bars and drinks. BUT you are placed in the middle of Prague and really as a tourist i would prefer to leave the place and go somewhere else. But to your luck my boyfriend really wanted to try this bar out. Making pictures of your holiday is to keep amazing memories. I was very disappointed because Prague is a very small city and we could only find the black angels as a known good bar. We come from Berlin we have lots of very good bars, even better than the black angels and with the same concept, everywhere in the city. No bar forbids making pictures. Maybe if someone makes to much pictures of every corner, then maybe someone says something. And by the way the most of this bars are smaller than the black angels. Your comment does not change the fact that the service people were very stressed and did not care about the guests. That's a no go for a small place. And discussing our drink with the bartender, is only if you can't find something in the menu. If you really want that the guests discuss with the bartenders, then don't make a 200 page menu or don't make a menu at all. But then you have to promise this service. With no service this is not possible. I know you want to protect your bar, but we had a very annoying time there, and we will probably not come back... read more

We went here as a couple, having seen this bar pop up on several of the "Best Cocktail" lists for Prague. Unfortunately our experience there was not only disappointing, but quite upsetting! Let me begin by saying that the drinks were fine -- not mind-blowing like they were at Prague's L'Fleur and Hemingway Bar, but fine. I ordered the Penicillin which was a nice mix of whiskey and honey, served with a beautiful large ice cube on the side. What made our visit so disappointing was the hostess (not the waiters). We arrived promptly at the time of our reservation which we had made via email and was confirmed back to us directly by the Bar. Upon arriving and giving our name, the hostess said aggressively, "You're late." When we gently said that our reservation was in fact at 6:45 and not 6:30, she insisted that we were nearly 20 minutes late and did not want to see our confirmation. After looking at her computer, she said she had originally given us a nice table but would not be able to give us a good seat because we were so late. She then escorts us angrily down the stairs and seats us in a corner next to a tacky fishtank and throws one (not two) menus down on the table. When I say "throws" - she threw the menu onto the table before walking away without a single word. The waiters were very friendly and apologized for the hostess's behavior especially after we had showed our email confirmation, saying that they have heard this from other customers, and then escorted us to a nicer table in the main section of the bar - a cavernous room with dark lighting. We were so appalled by the hostess's nasty behavior that we drank one drink and left. Needless to say, the hostess was just as rude on the way out. We then went onto a few other cocktail bars in Prague - Hemingway Bar and L'Fleur, both of which were wonderful service-wise, unpretentious, with a friendly vibe, classy interior and imaginative drinks that we enjoyed one after the other and still recall once home. Skip this one and enjoy one of the many other cocktail bars in Prague (and within walking distance of the main square) where the atmosphere, drinks and service is much, much better! read more

This bar was nominated as one of the best in the world at a cocktail bar convention in the states I am told. The bartending here is at a whole nether level (besides subterranean) and they definitely take home the prize in the bartending style category. The atmosphere is killer with a pirate theme however it is hampered by the large posting of "no photography". The greeting upon entry wasn't the best experience due to lacking friendliness and their pictorial food menu will remind any American of Denny's. I would rate this lower however their 'no holds bar' cocktail program and badass bartending saves itself from it's otherwise very corporate cookie cutter feel. read more

Again, I am not a cocktail guy, so that colours my perceptions a bit. The interior is, frankly, gorgeous and the atmosphere is fantastic. The drinks are...well, they are certainly expensive enough. Some of the concoctions are quite good, but I couldn't help but think they were trying just a little too hard to be "original" - concept seemed to trump taste and practicality in a few of their drinks. Am I glad this place exists? Yes. Would I make a special trip? Probably not. Would I take a friend who was jonesing for a cocktail and we weren't far away? Absolutely. One of my favourite bars for ambience in all of Czech Republic. It's located in the main tourist area of Old Town, but once you enter the hotel and head downstairs, they do an amazing job of letting time stop - and have carefully crafted top notch cocktails and pour a nice absinthe from a drip device. It's all about presentation and they always been consistent. I live in Santa Monica, CA so I have decent standards and this is a great spot. Been here 3 times. read more

Being from Southern CA (where you have craft cocktails everywhere you look) the cocktails themselves were just fine. Fairly standard for what you would imagine you would find in a tourist zone. Lots of options and there is certainly something for everyone so nothing to complain about! My 5 star review is for the ambiance. I enjoyed the cozy, dark, upscale, cavernous feel. The live piano music was a plus! The space was definitely small but we had no issue getting a seat and in the hour and a half we were there everyone that came in was able to get a seat. read more

So disappointed with the service at this place. The atmosphere and drinks are 5 stars, but sadly we felt incredibly discriminated during our short visit. Perhaps you might give it a shot and have a totally different experience. I actually hope so, since this was one of the neatest bars I've been to (atmosphere, aesthetic, drink menu wise) and that's a lot coming from a New Yorker. Would of loved to come back here for another visit during our stay in Prague. It's super unfortunate when places like these can't welcome tourists. Came here last night with some friends, sat at the bar, and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the downstairs area was. We were surrounded by brick walls , chandeliers above us, and even a gigantic ship model hanging from the ceiling nearby. And to make things even better, the house cocktails were delicious and served up by a very entertaining bartender! Will definitely make it back here if I return to Prague! read more

We loved this bar! Great atmosphere in an underground cellar type of surrounding. The piano player was a nice touch (and for those of you musically inclined, you'll enjoy his playing - nice renditions of everything from Dave Brubeck to Private Dancer (haha) with impressive transitions in between). We stayed for cocktail after cocktail... ranging from their take on an old fashioned with a cool diamond ice cube to a nice cocktail featuring absinthe called "the corpse reviver" to a really gingery moscow mule. It is the kind of place where you can say "I want a sweet/sour rum based cocktail" and they surprise you with something. One drink was served in a teacup, another in a tiki cup... I can't really drink alcohol right now (only sampled friends' drinks) so I actually requested a couple of "mix something for me" non alcoholic drinks, which were both fantastic. You can order food, which comes from the restaurant upstairs. I had the mushroom risotto which was pretty tasty - but given prices in Prague, it felt overpriced (~$10) for a fairly small portion. read more

Bar was fancy and romantic however they rip off tourists. I ordered an expensive scotch and they gave me cheap whisky instead. When I called the waiter out on it he got very very nervous and immediately gave me the real drink. Then they switched waiters on us since he was embarrassed to come back. Yes the place looks errie and the stone is everywhere- but the place feels touristy, the drinks look touristy - and so much that I sat down at the bar, looked around and left without getting a drink. Really impressed. We had low expectations for this bar, given its proximity to touristy areas, but it was amazing. Great speakeasy-style bar. Harry took really great care of us with his mixology kung fu, making us custom cocktails that were perfect. The food was delicious, and the ragtime piano made it for us. Can't say enough good things.
