    A beautiful setting

Black Barn is a large, Napa-style wine property with a beautiful restaurant (bistro) serving inspired food for lunch. We stopped in at noon on a Thursday in July for a quick tasting (4 wines including a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah and a Bordeaux Blend-all fine, but nothing remarkable to my tastes). Then we satunder a canopy of grape vines and had an enjoyable lunch (4-stars for restaurant and food). My wife had a summer salad and I had a fresh snapper with a beautiful orange broth served over white beans-healthy and delicious. It is worth stopping here for lunch even without a wine tasting both for the food and scenery

I had one day in Hawkes Bay and I had to make the most of it. After lots of research, I came across Black Barn Vineyards and knew we had to visit. I am from Sonoma County, California (a huge wine region) and was so happy to go wine tasting in New Zealand. Black Barn Vineyards looked like just the place! This place definitely reminded me of Napa in it's architecture - it's fancy, designed modernly, trendy. Though this may seem intimidating, it's actually a super friendly place and the staff was very welcoming. We walked in and had a tasting with a guy who really had his spiel down. He picked us a fig from the tree outside to pair with the sauv blanc, which went really well together. We did a full tasting and loved all of the wines. I particularly liked a few of the reds, and they did a great rose. We bought a glass for outside and had some fries in the vines - what a fantastic little outside patio they have! Black Barn is a great place to chill out for the day with a bottle or glass of wine in the sun. They had some adorable little rugs with bean bag chairs, which would be amazing to hang out on if they were shaded. All in all, I'd definitely recommend and will totally visit again if I ever get back to Hawkes Bay!

WOW! Incredible location, delicious food and wonderful company. Vineyards aren't usually my type of thing but Black Barn is the perfect blend of top quality food in a relaxed environment. The lovely lady at the art shop was a hoot too! The back drop is simply stunning making the experience magical! I don't want to explore any other vineyards in Hawkes Bay now as nothing could beat Black Bran to me. Can't wait to quaff my way through the case or two I couldn't help but purchase

This was my first ever winery experience as a treat from my parents on New Years Day. And what a treat it was! Some of the tastiest food I've ever had, eaten under a beautiful wooden pergola-type structure, covered in vines, right in amongst the Blackbarn vineyard. The sun shining through the leaves, creating glorious shadow patterns on every table, a stunning place to enjoy your lunch. Exceptional staff and food, the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful Hawkes Bay produce, highly recommend!

Your hosts, Elizabeth & Graham Mcrory are two of the kindest and most hospitable people I have ever met. When I say they go the extra mile - I mean they really truly go above and beyond. Their attention to Detail is unsurpassed and you are left feeling incredibly spoiled. The unit is self contained with the most stunning patio out onto fields of green, with ponds, a chicken coup and horse pasture in the distance. It looks like a scene straight out of a Jane Austen novel. The unit itself is classic but modern, with the most comfortable bed, a kitchenette, skylights for extra natural light, a double headed shower In an incredibly modern bathroom and air conditioning and hearing for extra comfort. Tons of privacy and ultra luxurious across the boards. The breakfasts served are some of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Fresh baked bread with a selection of spreads and local butter, fresh milk served in the most adorable milkjar; a bowl of fresh fruit, granola and delicious fresh local yogurt; a plate of meats and cheeses; fresh squeezed orange juice and brewed coffee. I literally got up and hugged her when she dropped it off. Location wise this spot is perfect - you are very central tucked in between Havelock North and Hastings and a short drive to Napier. Winery heaven is just around the corner. Every trip to NZ now will include a stay at the 2 Chimneys. I'm positively in love with everything about it. Thank you so much McRory family for making our stay the most memorable experience.

It was the final winery we visited but by far the most comprehensive experience and ultimately our favorite. The tasting room and winery grounds are breathtaking, especially with the craggy looking mountain range in the backdrop, appropriately named! The outside has a generous parking lot with a beautiful color blocked design to the tasting room and restaurant. We stopped by the tasting room first which had a large wooden tasting bar and warm red painted walls. The large windows open up to reveal the vineyards and lush green grounds. We enjoyed a tasting and particularly liked the Riesling and the Syrah. We decided to have lunch out on the restaurant patio which overlooks the beautiful green lawn, the pond with relaxing water features, and of course the beautiful mountain range. The setting is picturesque and one of the highlights of our trip. I ordered steak and the husband had a chicken main and they were presented like works of art. They were almost too beautiful too eat, but when we did they were amazing. We also had a side of potatoes which were crispy and delicious. This is an absolute must see and plan to dine here if you're a foodie, you won't be disappointed.
