After a longer than expected stop in Wall, I arrived here with about 20 minutes left before closing. You never know what to expect when you walk in the door of a record shop in a smaller town, but my apprehensions were quickly debunked as I walked in to a welcoming environment. Everything was neatly arranged by genre and there was plenty of used inventory. With such a small amount of time to shop I made a beeline for the new arrivals and then the jazz section. I found three titles at reasonable prices and the owner (?) of the shop seemed genuinely okay with me being in the store five minutes past closing time. I didn't get a chance to explore the place as well as I wanted to, but I can tell you that there's a good hour of record shopping here even for the most seasoned of collectors and the location is part of a beautiful downtown area. Excellent selection of Disc Golf discs and accessories from most manufacturers. Super cool vibe inside the vinyl record store, and to have the incredible disc golf selections elevates BHV to a whole different level! Great job; keep doing what your doing. read more

Great store! I spent more than an hour and found some great deals! The guy at the counter knows the store and was most helpful. I could have spent the entire day there as they have that many records. Most are sorted and neatly organized. They have more under the racks in the $1 bins. Great to search for an odd title or artist. A+++ read more

This store is so cool and such a good find in Rapid City, not only was it just a nice place to have found, but in a city where there aren't any strict regulations on masks, this rad little place had a mask mandate when entering the store! this was so refreshing and such a nice safety precaution that i really appreciated. now for the store itself- wonderful selection, kind staff, organized places for all your vinyl interests. also i've seen reviews saying maybe prices are higher because it is a specialized shop and you're not paying shipping and i was expecting way higher prices- i got a smiths vinyl (that i've been looking all over for) and a stevie nicks vinyl both around $20-25, which was great for my price range. overall really enjoyed this shop and glad i found it- highly recommend!!! read more

I was in Rapid City for the first time back in early October so I stopped in at Black Hills Vinyl. What a great experience. They have an enormous selection of records, and amazingly, many of them are still sealed. I bought over $100 of records, some for myself and some as gifts. This is a terrific store. read more

My first impression walking into the store was how tidy and clean the owners keep it. The vinyl records all appeared to be cleaned and put away with new inner sleeves and vinyl outer ones. It's good to have a local spot to buy and sell music... and vinyl in particular. Some buddies and I decided to meet up one Sunday afternoon to check out Black Hills Vinyl, and I have to say it was standard for a shop of its kind. Fit the bill, and it did so in many ways. We wandered and browsed rifling through the many sections. From new to old, and back again. When I just happened upon a sealed original-ish Ghost In The Machine by The Police... and as I had been looking for it for some time I snatched it up in a hurry. The prices are what you would expect for a store still helping us to keep the culture alive. They're marked a little above an online vendor but it's to be expected when you're not paying shipping and so on. Also of note, they have a small section of free pieces (items that they've had for a while and are unable to sell). The big take away of this review isn't the story above but that I'm always surprised at what you can find given a little time in a vinyl store. Though they may be a little more pricey than your online vendor. There's nothing better than finding that one piece you've been hunting for a good while. It's good to know that you can still find places like this locally, and to know you can occasionally find a gem or two makes it that much better. read more

Fantastic store focused on new and used vinyl but also featuring CDs, cassettes, and vinyl playing equipment plus a small stage for live shows. Co-owned by a wonderful couple with a deep passion for music. Conventionally located in downtown Rapid City and near several great restaurants and bars. Coming from a bigger city, one of my biggest concerns when coming to a smaller city was the inability to find good vinyl stores and while dropping off a parking ticket I found this store! I usually buy 40-60s vinyls and they had a very good selection of them. I browsed a few other genres and they were definitely not short of any of them. If you're a big fan of vinyls you will definitely find this store essential to increase your collection :) read more

They have a really nice selection of vinyl available, but the lady who was working that day was totally rude to us the entire time and acted as if she didn't like us in her presence. Snotty replies, sour attitude, couldn't get out of there fast enough. read more

Great selection, awesome prices, well organized, friendly staff. We visit record shops in every town we visit and this shop has truly supreme Soul & Jazz sections. They sell albums at a reasonable price. They know quality, and price the product accordingly. I truly dig going to this joint.

A great place to check out in downtown Rapid City. Lots of good vinyl records to check out, both new and old. Always playing some nice music over their own stereo setup that creates a nice atmosphere while you browse. There's also live music there at least one weekend a month! A wide variety so there's bound to be something anyone can enjoy. read more

Great selection of used classic vinyl records. I was very impressed with how well they have albums sorted by artist making my search quick and easy.
