Football days especially indicate how popuular this pub is, with football teams using it as there own base before and after games in the sunday pub league, and supporters of the local professional side (stoke city) using it as a base for travel to the matches. Food is served on various occasions for free when sports groups are in and everyone is welcome to help themselves as long as the team has had first dibs , as pub meals are not served.
