That would easily be a couple billion in today's dollars That's a lot of money. He founded fort Astoria as a Pacific Northwest outpost for his fur trading empire, , and yet even though this place is named after him, he never visited. Seeing the school is so much fun. The school was just used for exterior shots. I was here many years ago, and the back playground was wide open, and again, it was just like stepping into the movie. Since then, however, they've built some buildings, out back, and you don't get a really good view of the playground anymore. Still, just seeing the front of the school is so cool. The school is extremely close to the goonies house in town. Definitely worth stopping by for a moment or two. .

Once Mr. Kimble took over things got really exciting...for the kids. He actually saved my nephew Dominic and his mom, Joyce, from her crazed ex husband Crisp. He came back from France, lit a fire in the library and shot Mr. Kimble in the leg. Mr. Kimble was able to take care of Crisp and save the day! The class pet ferret was cute, but a little stinky!

We enrolled her in Olympia Waldorf trusting the promises of a nurturing environment, holistic education, community, and balance. What we actually experienced was chaos, lack of accountability, broken promises, and a lot of emotional strain. This school is nothing like what is advertised. Please do your research there are even documentaries that shed light on the reality. Sending my daughter here is one of my biggest regrets as a parent. I have had the great pleasure of watching my children thrive at Olympia Waldorf School over the…read morepast decade. I have a high school graduate who attended from third grade through graduation as well as two current students in middle school and early childhood. I've watched all three of my kids enjoy seasonal celebrations & festivals, deep connections with friends & teachers, and vivid memories of quality time spent outside & on meaningful field trips. The deeply personal experience of having a teacher with you from first grade through eighth grade is unmatched in my opinion. Teachers have years to form a much greater understanding and connection with children in this longer timeline format of education and it gives a much more personal and caring environment for children to learn and grow in. The philosophies and theories behind this type of education also ask that teachers are always learning, growing, and improving on all levels of their being, which translates to teachers that are self-aware and emotionally intelligent, always striving to better themselves and to understand and support their students. I also love that the school teaches music and foreign languages from such a young age. Woodworking, needlefelting, knitting, and other handwork skills are also such an integral part of this education that children leave the school with skills that most of us as parents wish for! (We usually get some pretty great handmade holiday and birthday gifts as a result also!) The parent community cannot be beat here. I've seen so much support for families, and so many important foundations of community throughout. When one parent needs help with carpools, emergencies, meal trains--you name it, this community shows up. It's inspiring to see the care and love put into not only the experience for the children, but for the entire family. It sets the precedent for the children to grow up taking an active role in their community and I feel we truly model how to show up for people and how to take care of people here. We truly have met so many amazing lifelong friends in this community that have stood by us in times of crisis and need. Its so much more than a school!

Think hard, don't lie to yourself... Does your child need a bit of support academically? Do you…read morethink they might? Do you want small class sizes? Are they on meds that need to be administered at school? Are they Neurodiverse (Dyslexic, Anxiety, ADHD, Autistic, Dyscalculia, etc.)? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this school probably isn't for you. We really loved the school when the kid was younger. But, partway through the lower school, supports and amenities suddenly got a lot more scarce! The Middle School is even worse. Were the staff at fault? Usually not. Decisions were made and the kids that needed a bit of help paid the price. There isn't a school nurse. They have remodeled some of the specialist-type classrooms to convert them into classrooms. There has been quite a bit of staff leaving in the last 5 years. There isn't a real 9:1 kid to teacher ratio in practice, they use alternative accounting practices including counting staff members like the librarian (kids see the librarian for an hour or less per week while most teachers rush back to their rooms for preparation time leaving the librarian often alone with the kids). Teacher assistants in the lower school are not necessarily full time and are often pulled from class to cover teachers and things like playground duties. The administration is actively trying to add more students per class, and more classes overall, as all administrators are prone to do. In short, while it is a beautiful school, it isn't for everyone. Try not to be dazzled and ask the hard questions. See if this is right for your family. It is an expensive question to get wrong.
