The costs can be a little bit higher for lunch but the menu is very similar and therefore for dinner, I thought it was quite reasonable. Peter who used to be at another Billericay restaurant is the restaurant manager and as normal makes sure we get well looked after.

Each room has a lot of history. Take one look around and there's a lot going on. Apparently this location used to be a part of monastery and has evolved over the years now to a great pub. Certainly one of the better Pubs in the Gillingham area and best in Rainham…read more This used to be the Pub of choice when we were living in the area and going out with friends, although not being big drinkers that didn't happen too often. It's a good size, the staff were friendly (a rare thing in Rainham!) and best of all, it was just 2 minutes walk from our house. The Thai restaurant attached to the Pub was also pretty decent and a great place for a meal before a night of drinking. A little history of the building is that the building itself was built in the 14th century making it one of the oldest buildings in Rainham and during the building of the home next door a passageway was discovered that ran all the way from the cellar to the Church. It's also common knowledge with locals that it once was a coaching house. So if you're in the area looking for a decent place to drink The Green Lion is top of my recommendations. They also hold a late license on weekends (Friday and Saturday) where after 11pm the entrance is at the back of the building next to the beer garden.
