From the beginning the tattoo itched scabbed swelled and bled. It hurt and it looked bad. I went into the shop multiple times and no one could give me a clear answer. Messages on social media were ignored. Someone from the shop eventually suggested it might be an allergic reaction to metal in the red ink and gave me a home treatment plan with vitamin E, epson salt soaks and cocoa butter. I followed it for twenty weeks and my foot got worse. I was waking up with blood on my sheets from scratching in my sleep and people asked about it because it looked infected not because the tattoo looked good. I later moved to the West Coast and saw other tattoo artists who had zero connection to this shop. Multiple artists told me the work was done incorrectly and that poor technique and ink saturation were likely to blame. A dermatologist also confirmed it did not look like an allergy. The shop tried to say that other artists were probably trying to make them look bad but no one here even knows who they are and they had no reason to defend or criticize anyone in Pennsylvania. Sometimes mistakes happen. Most people understand that. What made this worse was that the shop refused to own anything. Instead they got frustrated that I was pointing out that something was wrong and treated it like an attack instead of a request for help. That reaction made the whole situation worse than it needed to be. It has now been thirteen years and my foot still itches daily, and splits open and bleeds randomly. I deal with it daily because the skin reacts constantly and that physical reminder is hard to ignore. For that reason I think about this shop every single day and not in a good way. Based on my experience I cannot recommend this place and I suggest staying far away.

My septum i had no problems with but i took my jewelry out and it closed so i had to get it redone. when i went back the second time she asked me who did my first one (it was her) and she gave me completely new piercing holes. so now i have two sets. for my belly button, i dunno if it's my anatomy or what but she was pushing that needle through for at least 10 seconds before she fully pierced it. it ended up rejecting horribly after following her care instructions as well. if it was because of my anatomy, that should've been the call she made before she started piercing it. Ive talked to numerous people who have gotten stuff done by her who have had similar issues as well. I can't say anything about their other tattoo artists because i've never gotten anything done by them, but their work seems nice.

I went and someone else did it. They did the piercing completely incorrectly and it was a wholly unsanitary environment. After sticking the needle through my cartilage, they then took the needle out before attempting to put the jewelry in. After mangling my ear, they were unable to put the jewelry in. I had never experienced such pain (and I have body piercings that are supposed to be "the most painful piercings"). It is a day later and my ear is truly purple. I will have to go to the doctor on Monday, that is how bad it is. I tried to save some money since it is so cheap here but I definitely wish I would have paid the extra money for the piercing somewhere else instead of the doctor and the antibiotics I will have to take.

Steve was amazing and incredibly patient with me and my friend throughout our entire appointment! He was obviously very knowledgeable about his craft and took a lot of care in setting up, making sure everything was sterile, and very precise during the entire tattooing and clean-up process. He also took great patience explaining the aftercare process. Not only is Steve an incredible artist, he was also a lovely conversationalist! This was my first experience with a tattoo artist, and I have to say, Steve set the bar very high. Luckily, he's local for me so any future work I have done will be with him. One email sent via the site from me, he replied, said to stop in and we can chat and bounce ideas around, and go from there. I needed something very simple and we got a design in no time, had it done in even less, and I'm a happy first-timer. Very clean, very professional, no complaints at all. My friend and I went to Steve's shop today to get tattoos done. After doing some research on shops in the area we decided on Black Moth and could not have been happier. Not only was it great quality work and a clean environment, but Steve made the experience so personal. I truly feel that it is something special when compared to others because of the galleries, Steve's attention to detail when tattooing, and the welcoming environment that he has created. What a solid spot: far from pretentious, and able to create highly aesthetic tattoos. I've been back three times now because Steve runs a very clean and comfortable shop. It has remained one of my favorite pieces of art all these years later. So when I finally decided I was ready for my chef tattoo, he was the artist I wanted. I was thrilled when he responded to my inquiry with genuine enthusiasm. I could not be more pleased with what we created together. The theme was food plants--but not the food itself--so the piece includes tomato plants, rosemary, chamomile, basil, nasturtium, and some of the critters that live around them. The whole sleeve flows beautifully with the anatomy of my arm in a way that still kind of blows my mind. Later, I asked Kiel to create a memorial tattoo for my father and uncle. With just a few prompts, he designed a vibrant and deeply personal tribute to two of the best men I've ever known. Everything has healed beautifully. Kiel is also wonderful to sit with through long sessions. We end up talking about books, movies, video games, parenting, and the general chaos of trying to be adults in a strange world. The conversation makes the hours easier, and meaningful. He's a genuinely kind human being and an incredibly talented artist. His understanding of anatomy, movement, and color theory makes his work feel alive on the body. I would recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone looking for something distinctive and personal, especially if you're willing to trust a gifted artist to collaborate with you creatively. 10/10. No notes.
